Report: Two swine flu patients in ICU in Georgetown County

Published on 8/31/2009

Georgetown County has several reported swine flu cases and two people are currently in a hospital intensive care unite as a result.
That’s what  Dr. Robert Ball, the coastal region's infectious disease epidemiologist for the S.C. Department of Health Environmental Control, said over the weekend.
Ball, in a broadcast report, said the two unnamed patients are on ventilators as they are being treated.
The ages, race or gender of the patients was not released.
Ball said there are more cases along the coast of the state possibly because of there are more tourists in this area.
On Monday, details were released about the first swine flu death in SC.
A Midlands-area child died last week from complications of the disease.
However, DHEC reports the child had underlying health problems before getting swine flu.

That, and Mark Sanford.

Don't you people read the paper!!! The county has far more important business at hand than the swine flu. They have to run the bikers out of town before the fall rally gets here. That way the unemployment rate can continue to increase and Myrtle Beach won't look so stupid for running them out of their town.

There are more cases in community than public is aware of. A Georgetown teacher had the swine flu and was quarentined a couple of weeks because the teacher just returned to school late last week. Shouldn't parents be made aware and why arent they?

Well they have been in there for a couple of weeks now. If they are not the same two, then that means there has been four. And why didn't they tell anyone about the first two? Bottom line is the community is not being kept up to date on the swine flu problem. When the lady from the hospital said that the Georgetown hospitals did not have any cases it was already reported on the DHEC website that Georgetown county already had four cases and they had two people in Georgetown ICU with the swine flu at that time. Family members talk when you sit in the ICU waiting room all day and night.

How do you know they are the same two?

This is old news. Wonder why it took so long for them to let our community know it was a problem? They have been in ICU for a while!
