Paced by seniors Justin Duncan and Marcus Pope, the Andrews High boys track team captured the Class AA state championship on Saturday at Spring Valley High.

Duncan took first place in the 110 hurdles and triple jump and added a third place in the long jump while Pope won the 400 meters and took second in both the 110 and 400 hurdles.

"It was a great day all around for us," said Andrews coach Bill Peterman whose team had finished as state runners-up the last three seasons. "Everyone stepped up when they needed to and did really well. It was a team win. Everyone contributed to our success."

Along with Kenneth Knowlin, Devarnty Graham and Janear Davis, Pope was part of the Yellow Jackets winning 1,600-meter relay team. Duncan helped the 400-meter relay team finish third, along with Devan Scott, Derrick Nixon and Davis.

Rounding out the day for Andrews - who last won a state title in 2004 - Graham took sixth in the 800 meters and was a part of the 3200-meter relay team that finished seventh along with Josh McCray, Ervin Heard and Knowlin.

Waccamaw

Eric Sparkman won the 200 meters and added a third-place finish in the 100 meters and a fourth in the high jump.

Jarvis Tisdale was fourth in the 400 hurdles and fifth in the 110 hurdles and Stephen Canada finished seventh in the 800 meters.

For Waccamaw's girls team, Charlene Tisdale placed fourth in the high jump and eighth in the triple jump.

GIRLS

Team score - 26. Waccamaw, 5.50.

High jump - 4. Charlene Tisdale, 4-10; Triple jump - 8. Tisdale, 33-6.

Carvers Bay

Urania Dennison, Jasmine Washington, Asia Grimmage and Shakelya Moultrie won first place for the Bears' girls team in the 400-meter relay with a time of 48.79.

Clayton Geathers was second in the long jump for Carvers Bay's boys team and Daniel Bromell was second in the discus. The Bears 400-meter relay team - Geathers, Jeremy Cox, Cedric Reed and Davious Chestnut -- placed third.

GIRLS

Team Scores - 13. Carvers Bay, 17

400-hurdles - 7. Urania Dennison, 1:27.94; Shot put - 4. Alexis Taylor, 32-09.

Georgetown

The top seed entering Saturday, Georgetown's LaQuan Priest brought home the state championship in the triple jump. Gary Sessions finished third for the Bulldogs in the shot put.

Team scores - 13. Georgetown, 16.

Triple Jump - 1. LaQuan Priest, 47-06.50; Shot put - 3. Gary Sessions, 50-06.
