Woman arrested for assaulting officer

Georgetown police arrested a 40-year-old woman who allegedly caused a disturbance at Southern Finance on Church Street Monday afternoon.
The woman was upset about a bill she received. As the officer was speaking to the worker, the woman kept cursing and telling the employee he was a liar.
Because she would not comply with the officer’s order to calm down, an attempt was made to place the woman under arrest.
She repeatedly resisted, and another officer arrived and used a stun gun on the woman’s shoulder. She then grabbed the stun gun, so it was deployed a second time.
She was still not in handcuffs when her two adult children arrived on the scene. It took patrol officers, investigators and deputies from the Sheriff’s Office all working together to get the cuffs on her wrist.
She then refused to stand up, so officers carried her to the patrol car and slid her on the back seat as she tried to kick them.
She was charged with disorderly conduct and assaulting police officers.

Someone stole a vehicle that belongs to the City of Georgetown.
The light blue 1997 Crown Victoria was stolen sometime between 10 a.m. Sunday and 9 a.m. Monday from the Waste Water Department on Ridge Road.
Manager Frances Macy said the car had “City of Georgetown” magnet placards on both front doors and a “litter bug” sticker on the back bumper.
Macy said she has the only key, so whoever took it must have hot-wired it, she said.
The car is worth about $5,000.
• A 17-year-old is accused of threatening his uncle Sunday afternoon.
The 17-year-old reportedly went to George’s Restaurant on Highmarket Street where his uncle and his grandfather were having lunch. He asked his grandfather for some money, and when he was told “no” he began to cause such a scene that he was forced to leave by some of the staff.
A few minutes later the teen tried calling his grandfather’s cell phone but he refused to answer. He then called his uncle’s phone and left a voice message that stated, “I’ll have somebody after you. You don’t know how powerful my friends are. I’ve got friends in high places that will take you out.”
The suspect is allegedly part of a gang that has pulled a gun on a person in the past, the report states.
• A 50-year-old man said he was walking on Emanuel Street at 3:20 a.m. Saturday when an unknown man ran up and punched him in the face, causing him to fall on the ground.
However, upon further investigation it was determined the alleged victim reportedly went to a house on Emanuel Street and started banging on the door trying to buy crack cocaine.

A series of burglaries at restaurants on the Waccamaw Neck are under investigation.
Lee’s Inlet Kitchen, Louis’s at Pawleys and Pizza Grill-A in Pawleys Island all reported recent break-ins.
At Lee’s Inlet Kitchen in Murrells Inlet, someone cut the locks to the outside coolers some time between 1 a.m. and 10 a.m. Monday. The owner said he did not see anything missing from the produce cooler and is unsure what, if anything, was taken from the beer cooler.
The complainant from Louis’s at Pawleys said he arrived the restaurant at about 9 a.m. Monday and saw the liquor cabinets, cash register and coolers were all pried open.
Ten full bottles of alcoholic beverages were reported stolen from the cabinets. Nothing else was reported missing.
At Pizza Grill-A, where deputies responded at 7:30 a.m. Monday, the glass was broken out of the front door. The only thing reported missing was a vending machine that contained M&Ms as well as Skittles candy.
There are no suspects in any of the cases.
• A 15-year-old from Player Street in Georgetown said his uncle beat him up Monday. He said he was walking to his grandmother’s house when his uncle ran up to him and threw him on the ground. Once he was able to break free, he ran home.
A witness who was riding by said she saw the man “slam” his nephew on the ground repeatedly.
After admitting to the attack, the teen’s uncle was arrested for simple assault.
• A skid loader, valued at almost $35,000, was reportedly stolen from a lot in the 3200 block of Highmarket Street. The machine was last seen by the sign at Pioneer South Carolina at 5 p.m. June 13.
• A Murrells Inlet woman was shopping at her neighborhood Food Lion Tuesday afternoon when someone reached into her purse and stole her wallet, which contained $450 in cash and several important cards. The 77-year-old woman said she did not see who took the wallet.
Her debit card was used at two locations before she could have it canceled.
As of the time of the report, there were no suspects.
• Deputies spent part of Monday evening trying to keep a Pawleys Island woman from committing suicide.
The officers were sent to an eviction in Pawleys Island, and when they arrived the woman being evicted was upset and “aggressive to all parties on the scene,” the report states.
At one point she threatened to grab a gun from one of the deputies and shoot herself and everyone else at the house. She then tried to get into one of the patrol vehicles, and when that attempt failed she got on her daughter’s bicycle and rode away. She said she was going to Highway 17 and ride in traffic to kill herself.
The woman was placed in emergency protective custody and was transported to the hospital for evaluation.
• A 65-year-old Georgetown woman met with deputies Monday and said she received a mysterious letter March 1.
The letter stated, in part, “there is talk in your community that you are molesting your daughter.”
She received an even stranger letter March 31. That one stated, “When will you learn God don’t like ugly? You better stop playing with God. Something bad might happen to you.”
The woman said the postmaster is investigating.
