A Georgetown man who has been hospitalized because of injuries he suffered in a fire in his Dekalb Street home last week died Friday morning.
Carleston Thompson Jr., had been at the Joseph M. Still Burn Center in Augusta, Ga., since his mobile home on Dekalb Street was destroyed by fire Nov. 18.
County Coroner Kenny Johnson said Thompson died at 7:45 a.m. Friday. He had sustained burns on over 75 percent of his body.
Fire was reported at the mobile home at about 5 a.m. Nov. 18.
Georgetown Assistant Fire Chief Bill Johnson said when crews arrived on the scene, the home was engulfed in flames.
Thompson’s daughter, C.J. Thompson, said her father suffered severe burns when he ran back in the home thinking his wife was still inside.
His son, Carleston Thompson III, suffered a hand injury.
Jeffrey Lambert, C.J. Thompson’s boyfriend, was also in the home and escaped injury.
It is believed the fire started when covers from the bed of Thompson Jr. came in contact with a space heater in his bedroom.
“The Fire Department deeply regrets the loss to the Thompson family and they remain in our thoughts and prayers,” Bill Johnson said.
The Dekalb Street fire occurred one day after Theodore Irwin, 84, died when his home on Brookridge Lane near Willbrook Bloulevard in Pawleys Island was destroyed by fire.

This is my aunt and her family. She is holding up as best she can right now. In response to the fundraisers for the family. There is a memorial fund at the South Carolina Federal Credit Union, under Carleston's name. All the donations will go right to the family. Please keep her and all their family in your thoughts and prayers.

My thoughts and prayers go out to this family in their time of need. I do not know them, but can only hope that the community can come together and help them to fill this void and move forward.

Heaven now has another hero. I will pray for his family. I can't imagine the pain they must be feeling. Does anyone know if they have started a fund raiser of some kind to help this family out?

Carleston you will be greatly missed. I loved you and your family. I feel terrible for Mrs. Terri she loved you so much as well as your kids. YOu touched so many peoples lives and were such a good person that could always make me laugh. You were the type that would do anything for anybody. May you rest in peace now.

I don't know exactly how long I've know this family. My dad (Jack McDaniel) and Mr. C L have been friends for a very long time. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. God will give you strength to get through this terribly sad time. Love you all, Peggy.

I agree with the High family ever since I met you all 18 years ago all i've ever seen was love between you and carlston and love for your children. It seems like just yesterday Charlene was in diapers and had the curliest hair. She always reminded me of a miniature shirley temple, and little C was into everything.Where does the time go?Your still in my thoughts and prayers and PJ said to tell charlene he's sorry for her losses and if she needs anyone to talk to call him.We love you all!God Bless

God bless this man who loved his wife enough to race into a burning house to rescue her. No greater love has anyone than this. God rest and keep his eternal soul.
