Lake City defeats Post 114

Chris Mishoe's grand slam highlighted a six-run second inning to help Lake City edge the Georgetown American Legion baseball team 7-5 on Monday night.

With the loss, Post 114 dropped to 8-6 overall and 4-4 in League II.

Kevin Rufus hit a leadoff homer for Georgetown in the bottom of the first inning and Tyler Vick added a two-run double in the sixth.

Georgetown was scheduled to play Conway on Tuesday.

Junior Legion

WACCAMAW 11, GEORGETOWN 1: Kevin Anderson finished with three hits and drove in two runs to lead Waccamaw on Monday.

The win moved Waccamaw (9-5, 8-4 League II) into a first-place tie with Conway in the conference standings - the teams were scheduled to play a tie-breaking game on Tuesday.

If Waccamaw wins on Tuesday, it will face Darlington in a best-of-three series in the first round of the playoffs. With a loss, Waccamaw would open the playoffs against Marlboro County.

Aaron Bishop had two hits and two RBIs for Waccamaw and Seth Johnson had a hit and drove in one run for Georgetown (9-6, 7-5).

Georgetown will face Chesterfield in the first round of the playoffs.

SOCASTEE 8, ANDREWS 1: Socastee's win on Monday eliminated Andrews from playoff contention.

Andrews ended the season with an overall record of 8-9 and was 6-6 in League II.

Basketball

STANLEY COUNTY (VA.) 61, PAWLEYS ISLAND 54: Lakeitha Alston scored 17 points to lead Pawleys Island, but the Heat fell in their opening game of the USBA National Championships.

Briana Bombich added 14 points for the Heat, one of 16 teams competing in the 16 and under age bracket.

The Heat will continue the tournament today at 10:30 a.m. against the Union County Extreme (this game will be played at Loris High School) and on Thursday at 11:45 a.m. against the Spindale Express (at North Myrtle Beach High).

Baseball
