Georgetown girls in state tourney

Published on 7/1/2008

The Georgetown All-Star 12-and-under girls softball team is advancing to the state tournament beginning July 12 in Sumter.

Georgetown defeated nine teams in the Pee Dee June 19-25. Georgetown beat Andrews 10-9 in an extra-inning game for the championship.

The Georgetown County Department of Recreation and Leisure Services is seeking financial contributions to help pay for food and housing at the state tournament. Make checks out to the Georgetown Pony Tail All-Stars and deposit them in the team's account at Bank of America in Georgetown.

All donations are tax deductible, according to the recreation department.

Members of the team, pictured at right, include, front row, left to right, Julie Dawson, Jackie Gray, Crystyn Neely, Alyssa Kozma; middle row: Kelsey Fulton, Blakeley Graham, Carson Dawson, Andee Pope; top: Kari Oliver, Bailey Sanders, Taylor Mercer, Katie Glenn; coaches Timmy Howard, Walt Fulton and Danny Mercer.

I wish georgtown would follow up on girls softball more than they do. They don't put any details about the games. All of the other newspaper websites have not only details of the girls, but also have details of the games. If they would put in more details, then the artical would be alot more interesting. So please try to keep up with the younger people and their sports.
