The worst property damage in Georgetown County from Tropical Storm Hanna occurred after the storm made landfall near the South Carolina/North Carolina border.
Fire was reported on an electric transformer on Screven Street near the Georgetown County Courthouse on Screven Street at about 4 a.m. Saturday - 40 minutes after Hanna blew ashore.
The fire from the lines spread into two historic buildings near the Courthouse. Heavy smoke was pouring from the offices of the McNair Law Firm and the adjacent Anne Hartis Interiors.
One firefighter suffered a shoulder injury as while fighting the fires and was treated by EMS.

It said "worst PROPERTY damage." Still, sorry to hear about the accident. My prayers to his family and friends.

No not the worst damage from storm. The worst damage seems to be the life lost of Chad Ward from Andrews last night in an automobile accident on hwy. 521 around 2:00am running off the road and striking a telephone pole, being thrown from the vehicle and possibly drowning in the ditch and not being found until around 10:30am as his friends and family were organizing a search party for him as he was not found in his truck at the accident scene. Sad, sad story. Our prayers are out to his family and his many friends. I stood with some of his friends as they removed his body from the canal. He was very much loved by his friends. His family can be proud of that.
