One person died in a one-vehicle accident early Monday.
According to the S.C. Highway Patrol, the accident occurred at about 12:40 a.m. on Highway 17A, about 10 miles south of Georgetown.
Lance Cpl. Bob Beres said the driver of a 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee was traveling north and – for an unknown reason – ran off the left side of the road and then overcorrected. The car then slid to the opposite side of the road, struck a tree and caught fire.
The victim has been identified by Coroner Kenny Johnson as Christopher L Bryant Jr. of Andrews - known by his friends and family as Lee.
Johnson said because of the condition of the body, testing had to be conducted to make a positive identification. It is the seventh traffic fatality in Georgetown County this year.
