Church vandalized again For the second time in as many months, a church near Andrews has been struck by vandals. In April, the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses on Big Dam Swamp Road, was vandalized with graffiti painted on the walls and the sign on the front lawn. This week, water was used to cause extensive damage to the house of worship. A woman called deputies Monday morning after arriving at the church and finding a large portion of the interior of the building flooded. Someone had placed a water hose underneath a door of the church and turned the water on and left the premises. Most of the damage was in the library, located next to the door where the hose was placed. Damage is estimated at about $2,000. No arrests have been made in this incident.
Son fulfills promise A 20-year-old Pleasant Hill area ma told his mother during an argument Monday he was going to walk outside and “beat up her vehicle.” An that is what he did. The woman said her son cursed at her then walk out and beat the car with his fists causing about $800 worth of damage. The man took off running when he saw deputies driving up and he was not located.
WIS theft Three digital cameras, with a total value of $645, were reported stolen from Waccamaw Intermediate School Monday. School leaders say they could have been taken anytime after October. The theft was discovered during the end-of-year inventory.
Truck shot A man from Mahogany Ave. in Andrews said his truck was shot several times Saturday night. He said he heard several gunshots and when he went out to investigate he saw the damage. He also said he heard a female yelling at the time the gunfire was occurring. The man waited until the next day to report the crime. When asked why, he said he thought he had up to 72 hours to file a report.
Infant unattended After stopping at the Kangaroo convenience store in Pawleys Island Saturday afternoon, a deputy noticed an infant child in a car alone in the parking lot. The doors of the car were unlocked, so the officer waited about two minutes until the 3-month-old’s mother finally walked out. She admitted to leaving the baby while she went in the store, so she was given a citation for unlawful conduct towards a child.
Stolen rings Three rings, with a total value of $10,500, were reported stolen from a home on Parker Drive in Pawleys Island June 22. The owner said he believes the theft occurred between June 7 -13. The rings were taken from a 3rd floor bedroom in which only 5 people have access. Three of those are workers from a fencing company working on a balcony outside the bedroom. So far, there are no confirmed suspects.
Car as a weapon A 43-year-old Murrells Inlet man says a man he knows tried to run over him with a Pontiac GTO on Lomax Court June 22. When a deputy arrived, the victim was on the phone with the alleged suspect and the officer reported hearing the suspect cursing at the victim and impersonating a police officer. When the deputy tried to talk, the man hung up. The victim said the suspect also chased him with a baseball bat which he said he was going to use to break his legs. He said the incident started when he was spotted trying to write down the suspect’s license tag number because he had been causing problems previously. If arrested, the suspect will be charged with assault and battery with intent to kill.
“Silly” vandalism A woman called police June 20 after a man sprayed “silly string” on her car in the Firehouse Subs parking lot. She said the suspect is a former employee who had threatened to damage her vehicle previously. She said she saw the man spray the car and then he fled in a truck being driven by a female. She told police damage is estimated at $16,000.
