Boaters thrown by wake at Inlet

Published on 5/11/2008

No injuries were reported Saturday in Murrells Inlet after two people were thrown from a boat after hitting a wake.

A 17-foot boat was passing a 30-foot parasailing boat around the jetties near Murrells Inlet around 2 p.m., according to Lt. Robert McCullough with the state Department of Natural Resources.

The driver and passenger of the smaller boat were picked up by the parasailing boat and not injured.

Emergency officials retrieved the runaway boat about two miles offshore and returned it to shore, McCullough said.

The U.S. Coast Guard also responded.
