Traffic accidents within the past five days in Berkeley County claimed the lives of two Andrews residents.
According to the Berkeley County Coroner’s Office, 54-year-old Julian Tanner of Andrews died in a two-car crash that occurred at about 5:40 p.m. Wednesday on Highway 17A near Moncks Corner.
S.C. Highway Patrol Lance Cpl. Bob Beres said Tanner was northbound in his Mitsubishi when a Ford Crown Victoria driven by Jeremy Schaffer of Bonneau crossed the center line and hit his car.
Schaffer was still hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries Thursday night, Beres said.
He is charged with felony driving under the influence. No information about his blood alcohol content was available.
The second accident occurred at about 2 a.m. Saturday, also on Highway 17 A.
Berkeley County Deputy Coroner Bill Salisbury identified the victim as 16-year-old Robert Johnson. He died from his injuries about 9 a.m. Sunday.
He was reportedly a passenger in the vehicle of which the driver lost control and left the roadway, striking a tree. The name and condition of the driver was unavailable Sunday.

Our community has lost 3 people from senseless things in the span of 4 days - Jay, Robert and Johnny were all good people and I hope that our community can pull together and make sure that we are all doing the right things - This goes to show us that we do not know what day will be our, our loved one or friend's last day - God be with the families during these difficult times and with our community to heal.

Robert displayed well manners and were a very sweet young man from the very first time I meet him this year. May his family along with his AHS family find comfort during this most diffcult time.
