There was a time when Bishop England presented an obstacle for the Waccamaw High boys tennis team in the Lower State.
But it's safe to say that time has passed.
Waccamaw captured its sixth straight Class AA Lower State championship on Wednesday, besting the Bishops 5-1.
The Warriors won all five singles matches to secure the win. They'll be looking for their second consecutive state title this Saturday against Christ Church at the Richland County Tennis Center in Columbia - Waccamaw broke Christ Church's run of seven straight state championships last year.
"We're right where we wanted to be," Waccamaw coach James Brown said. "We wanted to have the opportunity to win another state title. Hopefully, we can make the most of it on Saturday."
NOTE: Waccamaw's Wesley Moran has been named an All-American for the 2007-08 season by the National High School Tennis All-American Foundation. The Warriors top seed, Moran has signed to continue his education and tennis career at Clemson University.
Wesley is the son of Tom and Liz Moran.
