Waccamaw loses fourth straight

A Jalen Simmons' touchdown as time expired in the first half gave Waccamaw High a 21-14 lead at halftime against Aynor last week.
But the Blue Jackets shut down the Warriors' offense in the second half en route to a 38-21 win.
"I think they just came out with the determination that they were going to win the game in the second half," Waccamaw coach Tyronne Davis said. "We came out flat. We weren't able to sustain drives on offense, and defensively we just weren't able to stop them."
Waccamaw took advantage of a botched onside kick on the opening kickoff and four-and-a-half minutes later Simmons ran it in from 1 yard out for the 7-0 lead.
Aynor drove down the field on the next possession and scored on a fourth down play, but Waccamaw stopped the two-point conversion to maintain a 7-6 lead.
Simmons extended the lead to 14-6 in the second quarter on a 5-yard touchdown run. The Warriors' drive was helped by two Aynor personal foul penalties on the same play.
Three minutes late Aynor tied the game with a touchdown and a two-point conversion.
Waccamaw got one final possession in the first half and Simmons got his third touchdown of the game with 7 seconds left to give the Warriors a 21-14 advantage at halftime.
Aynor came out and took the lead on its first possession of the second half and the Blue Jackets defense stifled the Warriors for the rest of the game.
"We gave them the momentum when they came out and scored early and then got the two-point conversion and took the lead and I don't think we rebounded from that," Davis said.
Simmons led Waccamaw with 123 yards on the ground. J.J. Sherman had 38 and Raishawn Mitchell added 21.
Waccamaw (3-5) heads to Marion (1-7) on Friday night. The Swamp Foxes beat Hemingway 15-14, and lost to Lee Central 36-27, Manning 41-14, Cheraw 48-0, Lamar 46-21, Loris 56-0, Aynor 14-12 and Dillon 41-7.
The Warriors finish up the season hosting Dillon on Oct. 26.
"We've got to keep working," Davis said. "We've still got two games left and then the playoffs."
