WHS teacher accused of "inappropriate relationship" with a student

Published on 11/13/2009

A student at Waccamaw High School, over the age of 16, allegedly  had an inappropriate relationship with a teacher at that school, according to sources.
Ray White, spokesman for the district, confirmed an investigation is taking place into “allegations of an inappropriate relationship between a teacher and student."
Although White did not name the school, other sources said the investigation is taking place at Waccamaw High.
The statement continues by saying “because the matter is currently under investigation and involves confidential student and personnel issues, the district will not comment further at this time.”
Although the allegations have been reported to the Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office, no criminal charges are expected because of the age of the student involved, according to Sheriff’s spokesman Lt. Neil Johnson.
He said the district is “handling everything.”
"The allegations are being investigated in accordance with district policy and procedures," the statement from the district concludes.
