Coastal Carolina University presented awards for faculty and student academic achievement and recognition at the annual Honors Convocation on Tuesday, April 29, in Wheelwright Auditorium.
Blair Paul, a senior marine science major of Queenston, Ontario, received the 2007-2008 Faculty's Distinguished Student Excellence Award.
Marissa Mitzner, a senior management major from Charleston, W.Va., received the 2007-2008 Ronald D. Lackey Service Award.
Steve Hamelman, professor of English, received the Distinguished Teacher Scholar Lecturer Award.
Barbara Norvell, assistant professor of early childhood education, was named Teacher of the Year, an annual honor presented by Coastal's Student Government Association.
Lee Bollinger, associate professor of communication, was presented the Student Affairs Division Award.
Charmaine Tomczyk, associate director of library services, was recognized for receiving the Robert L. Morlan Faculty Secretary Award in honor of her contribution to Coastal's chapter of Omicron Delta Kappa (ODK), the national leadership honor society.
Two new awards have been added this year to recognize the crucial contribution made by faculty and staff in their capacity as advisers. Brianne Parker was named Distinguished First Year Adviser, and Deborah C. Walker was named Distinguished Collegiate Adviser of the Year.
Departmental awards were presented to 33 students in recognition of outstanding academic accomplishments and contributions to the academic quality of their respective departments. The following awards were presented:
