It’s been more than two weeks since Ryan’s Steakhouse in Georgetown abruptly closed its doors after its parent company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.
If there is another business looking to take over the North Fraser Street building, they have not informed anyone with the city.
City Planner Elizabeth Tucker said the city has received no calls about the building.
“We have not heard anything,” she said.
There is no shortage of opinions from people who have ideas about how the building should be used.
The Georgetown Times placed a question on its Facebook page Wednesday asking what readers would like to see locate in the now-vacant building.
As of Thursday afternoon, there were 132 responses. Overwhelmingly, respondents said they want to see the building used as a restaurant once again. And, the majority of participants said they want a Golden Corral at that location.
Others said they would like to see a Cracker Barrel, Chick-Fil-A, Applebees and Zaxby’s. There were also several who said they would like a Chinese buffet restaurant.
TGI Friday’s Olive Garden and Outback Steakhouse also received votes.
Marsha Moultrie said she would like to see anything that would bring jobs to the city.
“It would be great to have something come that would employ double what was lost,” she wrote.
About 45 employees lost their jobs when the restaurant closed.
Nationwide, about 81 restaurants owned by Buffets Restaurants Holdings, based in Eagan, Minn., closed last month.
