The man accused of shooting two people on the streets of Andrews earlier this month is still at large but the search is not stopping, Andrews Police Chief Harvey Knox said Thursday.

Dominic Alexander Leggette, 19, has evaded capture since the Aug. 13 shooting that claimed the life of 22-year-old Antonio Tisdale and injured a 16-year-old as they walked along West Main Street.

Knox said one reason investigators know who they are looking for is because Tisdale himself identified Leggette by name before he died. Knox said one of his officers, as well as a couple of other witnesses heard Tisdale say Leggette was the gunman before he was transported to the hospital by EMS.

Once at the hospital, Tisdale died of a single gunshot wound to the chest, according to Coroner Kenny Johnson.

The teenager was shot on the ankle.

Police say the shooting occurred near Blue's Nightclub at about 10:40 p.m.

The teen told police Leggette had a T-shirt over his head and was in front of them as they were walking to the Food Pantry, formerly the Super Chik.

He said Leggette "started saying some words to them" and then "turned around and started shooting at him and Mr. Tisdale," the report states.

He said Leggette fired "three or four times."

Knox said there has been no definite determination of motive.

It's unknown if Leggette is still in the area or if he has fled to stay with friends or relatives elsewhere. On two recent occasions, police have received a tip that Leggette has been spotted but when the car was stopped the officers saw it was not him.

Anyone with any information on Leggette's whereabouts is urged to call Andrews Police at 264-8222.
