It’s gonna be hotter than the 4th of July.
That will indeed be the case today and the oppressive heat is expected to continue at least through Independence Day.
After a rather comfortable start to the week, it is coming to a sizzling end today and Saturday.
In anticipation of the dangerous heat, the National Weather Service on Wednesday issued an Excessive Heat Watch for today and Saturday.
The temperature is expected to reach around 100 today through the weekend but the humidity will make it feel even hotter.
Heat index values should be around 105 degrees today and 110 to 115 degrees Saturday and Sunday
One of the most dangerous places to be in such a heat wave is in a parked vehicle where the temperatures can quickly exceed 150 degrees.
The NWS warns to never leave children or pets unattended. Heat of this magnitude can reduce the body's ability to keep itself cool, triggering dangerous heat-related illnesses like heat exhaustion or heat stroke.
To reduce the risk of heat-related illnesses when spending time outside, drink plenty of fluids, wear light colored clothing and take frequent breaks in a shaded — or if available — an air conditioned environment.
Make sure outside pets and livestock have plenty of water and shaded ventilation.
To reduce risk during outdoor work the occupational safety and health administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location.
