After a hearing that lasted a little more than an hour, the Georgetown County Board of Elections decided to hold a new election for the Georgetown County School Board District 6 seat.
After the Nov. 6 votes were tallied then recounted, Richard Kerr received 21 more votes than his challenger, Peggy Wheeler-Cribb.
At issue was a possibility that as many as 270 voters were given the wrong ballot and therefore may not have had the chance to vote in the race.
After hearing testimony from only two witnesses — Elections Board member Billy Altman and Charles Craddock, the Murrells Inlet 2 poll manager — the board met in executive session for about ten minutes. After that closed door meeting the panel voted to hold the new election.
But, it may not be a deal. Kerr has the option to appeal to the state. He said he has not decided if he will appeal. He has to decide by Nov. 26.
