The National Hurricane Center is expecting Hurricane Sandy to pass well east of the South Carolina coast Friday but it should be close enough to generate hazardous surf conditions.
There is also a chance some of the outer bands from the storm could reach the coastal counties, so a chance of showers has been placed in the forecast for Friday and Saturday.
Right now, damaging winds are not expected in South Carolina although it may be breezy late Friday through at least part of the day Saturday.
It will not be a good weekend to go into the ocean as heavy surf and potentially deadly rip currents are expected.
Looking ahead, almost winter-like temperatures are expected next week.
