A taste of Pawleys Island will soon be making its home in Downtown Georgetown.
Roz’s Rice Mill Cafe, which has been part of the Pawleys Island Hammock Shops since 1997, is relocating to Screven Street on a vacant lot behind the Strand Theater.
Construction on the new 1,000-square-foot restaurant will hopefully begin by May, said owner Roz Wyndham. If that happens, the restaurant could be open in late October.
“It was time,” Wyndham said when asked why she was making the move. “You know when the time is right to start something new.”
She said she and her husband, Roger, always knew they wanted to eventually operate out of Georgetown, saying it was where her husband grew up.
Not only will the new building be a restaurant, a second floor will be constructed which is where the couple will live.
Although the new restaurant will have some seating, it will be geared mainly towards take-out orders.
“There will be no wait staff,” she said.
The menu, she said, will be ever-changing based on what seems to be popular with both locals and tourists.
The Wyndhams presented their building plans to the city’s Architectural Review Board last week but must return in April with revisions.
The location of Roz’s in the Hammock Shops is not staying vacant. It has already been purchased by the owners of Quigley’s Pint & Plate in Pawleys Island.
Quigley’s co-owner Josh Quigley says he hopes the new restaurant will be open in May.
