Georgetown man arrested in Maryland on drug charge

A Georgetown man was one of seven people arrested on drug charges in Frederick, Md., during a police sting last week.

According to the Frederick News-Post, the arrests were made Friday by that city’s Special Operations Division.

Police were watching the area of the Weinberg Center for the Arts where a Grateful Dead cover band was performing.

While patrolling the area, according to the newspaper, police arrested Jamie Hunt, 33, of Georgetown. He was charged with possession of marijuana, illegal mushrooms and drug paraphernalia. Six others were also arrested on drug charges.

They were all taken to the Frederick County Adult Detention Center, authorities said.

• Police investigators believe a homeless person is to blame for a small fire inside an empty South Fraser Street building the day after Christmas.

The fire was reported at about noon inside the former Fraser Street Electronics building. A fire official told police it appeared someone started the fire inside the condemned building to stay warm. There was a small pile of debris still smoldering inside when fire crews arrived. Damage is estimated at about $500.

• Police were called to the Filling Station on Front Street — a Christian club for teenagers — because of a burglary. When they arrived at about 7:30 p.m. Christmas night, officers found an open window, so an officer climbed inside.

There was no one inside and the owner told police nothing appeared to be missing. It’s believed whoever forced the window open fled before making entry. They may have been scared off by the alarm.

It possibly may have been the same burglar that attempted to break into the Lands End Restaurant about an hour before the Filling Station incident. At the restaurant, someone pried open the outside French doors, ripping a locking mechanism loose. The owner said the burglar may have been frightened away by his alarm as well because, he said, it is very loud and a voice starts yelling at the intruder once they pass a certain point in the building.

• A couple from Cuttino Street said they caught thieves in the act on their property at about 5:30 p.m. Christmas Eve. The man who lives at the home in the 1200 block said he and his wife were about to leave their house when they saw two men next to the back door of their house. When the owner confronted them, they ran toward Highway 701. He told police one of them looked to be hiding something under his coat. The complainant said this is the third time recently something like this has happened.

• A 38-year-old John Street man was arrested Dec. 21 for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend. The reported victim — who, according to the report had “obvious signs” of abuse — went to the police station to find an officer.

The woman had a large scratch on her face, her fingernails were broken and her pants were ripped.

She said she and the suspect began arguing when he tried to take $20 from her pocket. The argument intensified and he reportedly pushed her down and punched her on the face.

When police went to the man’s house, he allegedly lied when they asked his name but he was identified by his girlfriend. The man was charged with criminal domestic violence and giving false information to police.

• A worker at Georgetown Memorial Hospital called police Dec. 22 after she saw a 24-year-old Georgetown woman making changes on a prescription she was given by a doctor. The prescription was for Percocet and the woman allegedly changed the strength that the doctor ordered so the pills would be stronger.

When confronted by police, the woman said she thought the doctor had made a mistake and she thought she was making an appropriate correction. She was arrested for altering a prescription.

• The next day, police were called back to the hospital because of a man causing a disturbance. A worker said the 51-year-old Conway man was asked several times to leave the hospital, but he refused. The report does not indicate what the man was doing that made personnel ask him to get off the premises.

The police officers also told the man repeatedly to leave, but he still refused so he was arrested for trespassing after notice. Once at the jail, a pipe commonly used to smoke crack cocaine was found in the man’s pocket, so he was also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.

• While inspecting a boat at The Boat Shed Marina Dec. 23, the owner saw three propellers were missing from the vessel. He said he knows the boat propellers were in place Dec. 13, so they were taken sometime after that date.
The total value of the propellers is $1,800.
