A 30-year-old Summerville man who reportedly tried to steal two computer systems from Wal-Mart did not know he was being watched by a plainclothes security officer.
Police were called to the store at 1:40 p.m. Sunday after the private agent saw the man walk to the electronics department and place the computers -- valued at about $1,200 -- into a shopping cart. He continued to watch as the man pushed the cart out the front door.
A police captain was at the store at the time and assisted with the arrest of the man.
* Police arrested two juveniles Saturday evening after a gunshot was reported at the basketball court on Lincoln Street. The gun was fired in the air by one of the juveniles and they and other teens helped hide the gun before police arrived. After taking the teens were taken to the police department, they were questioned and admitted to the incident. Based on information they were given, officers found the handgun in the bedroom of one of the suspects.
* While responding to a noise complaint on Manigault Court at 2:15 a.m. Saturday, an officer saw a car driving at a high rate of speed.
He initiated a traffic stop and the driver pulled into a yard on Palm Street. He jumped out and started running away. The officer chased him for a short while and apprehended him behind 16 Manigault Court. The 18-year-old McClellanville man was charged with reckless driving, hindering police and not having a driver's license.
* A man from Hickory Knoll Apartments said he received a threatening voice mail Saturday.
He said his cell phone rang but he did not answer because it was from a private number.
When he later listened to the message, it was someone saying "I'm going to kill you."
The man said he believes the message is from his girlfriend's ex-boyfriend who is jealous of their relationship.
* A resident from the 2200 block of South Island Road called police at 2:30 a.m. Saturday because someone was banging on the front door.
When officers arrived they saw a very intoxicated man in the yard. When he was unable to tell police his name or why he was there, he was arrested for disorderly conduct.
Sheriff's Office
* A man who left his disabled vehicle on Ten Acre Road June 17 returned two days later and found it had been burned.
The 2000 Nissan Maxima was valued at $8,000, according to the owner -- a 50-year-old Andrews man.
* A woman from Player Street in Georgetown said she recently had her estranged husband arrested for domestic violence and now she thinks he is stalking her.
She said he drove past a house where she is staying June 19 and "was looking oddly at her." She also said he parked at a nearby intersection and "was sitting and watching her."
She said there is currently no restraining order against him.
* More reports of thefts of copper and other metals were taken by deputies within the past week.
On June 17, a woman from Powell Road said someone carried away some scrap metal and an air conditioner that had been left in an abandoned trailer on her property.
The thieves also removed copper from the trailer skirting and they took copper wires from the walls and ceiling.
Also on June 19, a woman from Whites Creek Road said someone took about $3,000 worth of scrap metal from her property on Feather Drive.
A neighbor said he has seen several suspects on the property in recent weeks. The woman gave deputies the names of those suspects.
* A worker at Big Bill's Lowcountry Barbecue in Kensington said she was given a fake $5 bill as a tip June 19.
Because she was suspicious, she used a counterfeit-detecting pen on the bill which indicated it was not real.
The woman said the customers who left the bill on the table are regulars and she does not believe they knew it was counterfeit.
The currency was placed into evidence.
* A Garden City vacationer called 911 over the weekend to report a theft of items from under the carport of the Waccamaw Drive home he was renting.
The man said some teenagers stole two beach umbrellas as well as some beer. Also taken was a cell phone and a pair of shoes that were in a bag on the carport.
The umbrellas and cell phone were later found on the beach. The owner said he did not want to press charges but wanted deputies to be aware of "some unusual activity the tourists deal with in Garden City," the report states.
Andrews Police
* Police arrested a Montford Drive man June 16 after discovering his cigarette box contained something stronger than nicotine: one bag of marijuana and three bags of crack cocaine.
The reporting officer initiated a traffic stop about 10:25 p.m. when he recognized the subject who had an outstanding warrant at Andrews Police Department. The subject pulled into Citgo, and before the officer patted him down he admitted he had a pocket knife.
When the officer removed the subject's cigarette box, he discovered there was one bag of marijuana and three bags of crack cocaine.
Police arrested the subject for simple possession of marijuana. A warrant will be obtained for possession of crack cocaine with intent to distribute.
* A Progress Energy employee reported June 20 that a West Hemlock Avenue man removed the plastic cover and lock placed on his meter box for non-payment of electrical services.
The employee said he wants the subject to be prosecuted. The case is active.
* Police arrested a man from Baltimore, Md., June 16 for disorderly conduct.
The reporting officer noticed the subject staggering in the parking lot at Dollar General and trying to stop cars leaving the lot. When approached by the officer, the subject said he'd consumed a pint of whiskey. After he failed two sobriety tests, police arrested him for disorderly conduct and transported him to Georgetown County Detention Center.
