'Stupid' men arrested for shoplifting

Published on 6/10/2008

An undercover Wal-Mart security agent spent quite a bit of time watching two Georgetown men on a shoplifting spree inside the store Monday afternoon.

He said he was watching as a 22-year-old man took off his shoes and then placed a pair of slippers from the store on his feet. At the same time, the man was drinking a chocolate milk he got from the grocery section -- something he didn't pay for.

His accomplice, a 33-year-old man, took a pair of sunglasses and the two walked out the door.

The security agent and another staff member stopped the men in the parking lot and detained them. When police arrived and asked why they stole the items, one of the men said they did it because they were "stupid." He said he has no idea why they did it because they had the money to pay for the items.

As the two were being searched, an officer found a matchbox in the pocket of the younger man. Inside the box were two Oxycontin pills, so he also was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance.

* The owner of Island Flowers and Gifts in Murrells Inlet said a Georgetown man who worked for her stole 12 of the company's checks and cashed two of them at businesses within the city. One check was written for $438, the other for $150.

When police interviewed the man, he said it was common for him to use checks and sign the name of his boss to make purchases for the shop.

* Police responded to a call of a man with a gun at Bayview Motel Sunday afternoon.

The manager said a guest showed him a handgun as he was checking out. He said he had been having a hard time with the man and his family. The man was gone by the time police arrived. While speaking with the manager, the suspect passed the hotel and was identified by the victim.

Police made a traffic stop on the vehicle and it was determined he had the gun legally. He said he was only trying to carry it back to his car when the manager saw it.

* A woman from Avant Court called 911 early Saturday after being assaulted by her boyfriend. The woman said her boyfriend asked if he could have a "threesome" with her and a juvenile in the apartment. The woman got mad at the request and slapped her boyfriend on the face. He retaliated by picking her up and slamming her on the floor, causing her to bust her head.

She was transported to the hospital to be treated.

The juvenile told officers the man has molested her in the past.

Warrants were prepared to charge the man with criminal sexual conduct and criminal domestic violence.

While on the scene, police noticed the apartment was "covered in filth from dirty clothes to old food laying all over the floor and counter tops," the report states.

There were bugs all over food in some pans.

In the living room officers saw several beer cans.

There also was no air conditioning.

Because of the conditions, a toddler in the house was placed in emergency protective custody.

Sheriff's Office

* For the second time in as many months, the Georgetown County Sheriff's Office has responded to a call of a child being shot with a BB gun.

On May 5, deputies were sent to a home on Mopar Lane in Andrews where they met with the mother of a 6-year-old boy. She said her son was playing with a BB gun and accidentally shot his twin brother on the left cheek.

She said the children were in the backyard when the incident occurred. The victim did not have any visible injury when the deputy looked at him.

On April 22, a 7-year-old girl from Nushell Road lost an eye after being shot with a BB gun. A 12-year-old boy has been charged in connection with that shooting.

* The Georgetown County Organized Crime Bureau has received complaints about alleged underage drinking and illegal drugs at a club in the Greentown community, so they conducted a walk-through of the business Friday night.

While the officers were in the club, a 29-year-old man walked over and bumped into one of the deputies. Thinking the intoxicated man had lost his balance, the deputy kept walking. The man then began to curse at the authorities telling them to "get out." When one of the officers asked if he had a problem, the man said, "Naw man, we're cool."

The officers noticed the man had his hands in his pockets, so they ordered him to show his hands but he refused. They forcibly removed his hands from his pockets and discovered he had a knife. Because he was "grossly intoxicated," the report states, he was arrested for disorderly conduct.

* Deputies were sent to the Pawleys Island Food Lion June 5 because a man asked a woman for some money. When she refused, he threatened to kill her.

By the time the deputies got to the store, the woman was gone. However, the man was still there and was talking to two other women. They said he started calling them names when they said "no" to his request for cash.

The man said one of the women was rude to him so he got rude with her.

While he was being questioned, the man started cursing and using racial slurs at the officer, so he was arrested for disorderly conduct. While en route to jail, he said he was having chest pains so he was transported to the hospital, where he reportedly would not cooperate with the doctors and became disorderly inside the emergency room.

The women who reported her boyfriend assulted her should have had him arrested for molesting the under age child. I am sure she will take him back and the abuse will continue. I hope she will be evicted because there no reason to raise children in those condition. Housing is low income based; therefore, instead of bring innocent children into this world one can't afford. If possible work, save some money, go to school, volunteer and give your childen something to strive towards. Those apartments are meant for the custodial parent and child(ren). Not for men who need a place to live. If anyone has an unauthorized person/s in living in their apartment-they need to be OUT.
