Warrants issued on Andrews man

Andrews police have warrants on a Laurie Street man for assault and battery and criminal domestic violence after he allegedly assaulted his wife and his 15-year-old stepson Aug. 13.

The complainant told police her husband hit her on the side of her face with a closed fist and grabbed her shirt. She reported that her husband also kicked and hit her son because he tried to stop the incident. The complainant told police her husband was upset because he saw her talking to a man in her yard and accused her of having an affair with him.

During the incident, the subject also broke some furniture in the residence.

The juvenile suffered a busted lip and received treatment from EMS on the scene. According to the report, the complainant had no visible marks but "was crying and very upset." The case is active.

* A Mahogany Avenue man discovered Aug. 14 someone attempted to break into his office, damaging a board and putting a hole in the wall. The complainant said the last time he was in the office was a week ago. Damages are estimated at $300. Though the complainant said he thinks he knows who is responsible, he has no evidence.

* Police arrested a Jones Avenue man Aug. 10 for criminal domestic violence after his live-in girlfriend said he pushed her down, causing injury to her back.

The complainant told police her boyfriend pushed her hard enough to knock her to floor. During the incident, she injured her back and her right foot.

According to the report, the subject apologized to his girlfriend but "became verbally abusive" when she did not listen, telling her to move out and threatening her.

He was arrested and transported to Georgetown County Detention Center.

* On Aug. 10, a Columbia man reported that someone stole his wallet from inside his car while it was parked in front of Dollar General in Andrews July 4. The wallet contained a VISA check card the complainant placed a stop on, and he learned someone tried to use the card at Citgo Station three times on July 8.

The case is active.

* Two men driving a silver van backed into the car of a Howell Street woman Aug. 8 and left the scene. The complainant said she was waiting to pull up to a gas pump at Citgo Station in Andrews when the men backed into her Chevy Impala, denting the right side of her bumper. She said they drove into Williamsburg County. The case is active.

* Police placed a Jones Avenue woman on trespass notice Aug. 7 after she allegedly pulled up to the McDonald's drive-through window and "used profanity" toward a McDonald's employee. Then, the subject came inside the restaurant and did the same thing, the report states. She left before police arrived, but they located her and informed her she had been placed on trespass notice by the store's manager.

* An Elmwood Street woman told police Aug. 6 that a Cramon Lane woman sold her a food stamp card for $70, but when she tried to use the card she discovered there was no money on it. The complainant said she was unable to get her money back, so police told her how to obtain a warrant.

Selling food stamps is ILLEGAL, yes. But what can the citizens do when the Solicitors Office turns loose other criminals - like a creep arrested and bailed out for $25,000 surety bail for criminal sexual conduct and the Solicitors Office lets him loose with pre-trial intervention, he does 1/2 of the year and Dorie Biagianti drops all charges because he seemed like a nice guy? The guy saw a judge ONCE at the bond hearing and now he is free walking the streets and no criminal record so he is free to strike again.

Illegal sales of food stamps is peanuts in comparison to the big issue = Illegal immigrants. If you want a story about the police not doing their jobs, let's look at the amount of illegal immigrants driving our roads, sitting in school desks that should be filled by the students of Tax paying citizens. Look at the growing number of Mexican businesses and quickly growing Mexican trailer parks. Who pays the tab when they get in an auto accident? Who pays the health care for them and their children? Who has to share their social security with people who have never contributed a dime? The answer.... You and I, the tax paying Americans who have fought our entire lives to live a good and honest life only to have to share our bounty with a group of people who are not willing to assimilate to our laws, culture and language. It's a shame that our police refuse to pull over a car full of Mexicans, not because of the threat of being accused of profiling but, instead because they know that it's a waste of time. As soon as they are arrested they post bond, change their name from Hector to Marcos and go back to sucking the blood out of our economy. This is a problem. This is a story. Let's clear the Bandits from our land and then concentrate on the misuse of EBT cards.

because the woman is 73 years old, thats why its called ignorance, she don't know any better and its sad to say that but its the truth.

You are absolutely correct. You should call the police when you know of a crime being permitted.

I agree that they have their hands full but if someone called them and told them they were violating the law there is no reason to tell the person how to get a warrant (which they would have to serve)when they were not supposed to be selling foodstamp cards in the first place. Why would some one sell a food stamp card? Those cards are paid for by taxes to buy FOOD, not be traded in for cash.

I think the police have their hands full without trying to run down everyone who sells food stamp cards.

Hey Georgetown Times, is it legal to sell food stamps? If not why is the police turning their heads on a violation of the law? I smell a good story.....
