Twenty residents in the Lamberttown community reported their mailboxes were damaged by baseball bats Jan. 21.
According to the report most of the damage occurred between 2 a.m. and 5 a.m. in front of houses on Walker Road, Windum Road, Dawhoo Lake Road, Lambert Loop and Saints Delight Road.
One of the teens believed to have been with the suspects said she and “multiple other teenagers” were out and about and were drinking beer provided by another teen.
She said a 17-year-old was driving and two juveniles were with him in the vehicle. She said she and the others met up with those three and they were bragging about all the mailboxes they had damaged.
Altogether, damage is estimated at about $2,000.
At least one of the teens is accused of damaging the ballfields on Dawhoo Lake Road by cutting donuts with a vehicle.
The incidents are still under investigation.

Silly string and gorillas

A woman from Daniel Morrall Lane in Wedgefield Plantation said there have been teenagers vandalizing property using silly string recently.
She said the  teens spraying the silly string are the same ones who she caught misusing a swing in her backyard.
The woman said there have been other incidents where teens were wearing gorilla suits “disturbing the peace in the neighborhood.”

Man wants vet bill reimbursement

A woman from the 500 block of Baker Ave. in Murrells Inlet called 911 Jan. 19 after her puppy got loose and ran away.
She said she later found the dog tied to a leash at a home in the 3900 block of Murrells Inlet Road.
The woman said when she walked in the yard to free her dog, the homeowner — a 42-year-old man — walked out and said if she did not leave he would get his gun.
Fearing for her safety, the woman left the yard and walked across the street to call deputies.
When questioned, the man said he did find the dog. He also said the woman had others with her who began cursing at him when they were in the yard.
He admitted threatening to get a gun but said he never carried through with the threat.
Because the woman produced documentation proving the dog belonged to her, the man was ordered to give it back. He said he had already taken the puppy to a vet and wanted the $97 bill reimbursed by the woman.
He was advised he would have to see a judge about fighting to get his money back.

Donation box theft attempt

An 18-year-old Pawleys Island woman was arrested Jan. 18 for allegedly trying to steal a Coastal Animal Rescue donation box that was at Litchfield Medical Center on Ocean Highway.
A receptionist said the suspect was at the counter where the box, containing nearly $31, was located.
The woman walked outside and then back in the office. When the box was noticed to be missing, a worker asked to check the suspect’s vehicle. When they did, they saw the money box in the back seat.

Scam call
 
An 82-year-old Pawleys Island woman said “male with a Jamaican accent” called her house about a dozen time Jan. 19 trying to get her to pay $150 by credit card in order to receive a $50,000 check.
The woman told the caller she knew it was a scam and ordered him to stop calling.
She told the deputy she knew not much could be done because the number from which the man called originated in Jamaica.
An officer said the information would be forwarded to federal agents.
