A 49-year-old man from Nelson Drive in Murrells Inlet was arrested for child endangerment July 19 after a small fire on the front porch of his home.
When firefighters and deputies arrived, the fire on a corner of the porch was out but no one answered the door.
Deputies searched all rooms of the house, except a bedroom where the door was being held closed by a ladder.
Once the officers were able to get the door open, they found the man in a closet.
He said he is an addict and was searching for some crack cocaine.
He also said he had no idea where is teen daughter was located.
After a while the teen was located and spoke to deputies by phone. She said the fire started from cigarettes her father, who was  drunk, had been smoking on the porch.
She said she called her sister to pick her up.
Because of drug paraphernalia found in the closet, the man was taken to jail but has since been released on bond.

Stolen surfboards

A vacationer from Cocoa, Florida reported three surfboards were stolen from the house in the 800 block of South Waccamaw Drive in Garden City July 22.
The boards were located underneath the house when they were taken.
Altogether, the surfboards are valued at more than $1,400.
A Conway man, staying in a house in the 900 block of the same street, reported two surfboards and two fishing rods were taken from the back of his truck. This theft also occurred July 22.

Stolen pigs

An Andrews man called deputies July 20 after discovering two of his pigs - weighing about 70 pounds each — were missing from their pen on Hardee Street.
He said he feels the pigs were stolen because the gate to the fence was open. He said it is very hard to open the gate.
The owner said his brother has also had a problem with livestock being stolen.
There are no suspects.

Mail stolen

A woman from the 500 block of Planters Row in Murrells Inlet reported her outgoing mail has been stolen from her mailbox twice since May 27.
The most recent theft occurred July 20.
She said there has been a problem with mail theft in the neighborhood but no one can identify a suspect.

Tower climbers

An employee of the Georgetown County Water and Sewer District reported three men were seen climbing the water tower of Governor Johnson Road in Wedgefield Plantation July 20.
The deputy used a bull horn to order the men down. They complied and said they did it because they were bored.
