Police Blotter: Explosion threat at Waccamaw High

Published on 1/24/2012

A 19 year old Waccamaw High student is accused of making a bomb threat Jan. 19.
Other students informed authorities the suspect was overheard saying he put an explosive device inside his laptop. He reportedly said if someone stole it and put in the wrong password three consecutive times it would blow up.
He allegedly showed a piece of the laptop and claimed that was where the gunpowder was located.
The suspect then reportedly entered the wrong password. When there was no explosion, he said he must have wired it wrong but vowed he would correct the problem that night.
The school was placed under a fire drill alert so students would exit the building.
The suspect was questioned and he said he did not really mean what he said and that his laptop was not rigged to explode.
Because of the seriousness of the matter, the student was arrested for disorderly conduct.

Chicken killing dog killed

A deputy was sent to Honey Hill Street Jan. 17 because of a dog that had been shot.
The complainant — who owns several pit bull dogs said one of the dogs got loose and walked to his cousin’s house and was attempting to kill his chickens.
The man’s cousin shot the dog several time, killing the animal.
The shooter admitted killing the dog to save his chickens. He said he was too late to save one of them. He also said he was afraid the dog would attack his wife and daughter.
No charges were filed.

School bus ruckus

A 32 year old Georgetown-area woman is accused of causing problems for a school bus driver Jan. 17.
According to the driver, the incident happened on Cockerville Road. The driver said the woman — the parent of a child who rides the bus — blocked the bus with her vehicle and then jumped out of the car and started beating on the bus with her hand.
The driver then opened the door and allowed the woman’s child to board the bus.
The child’s mother was reportedly yelling “this will be your last day driving a bus.”
The driver then proceeded to the next stop with the woman driving beside her until they reached Browns Ferry Road. At that point, the driver allowed the woman’s child to get off the bus with her mother.
The case was reported to school officials as well as to the Sheriff’s Office.

Another bus incident

A man from Falsebox Road said a school bus was attempting to turn around in his yard Jan. 19 but his car was in the way.
When he told the bus driver he was unable to move the car, the students on the bus reportedly started yelling and screaming at him.
Even after the bus got turned around, the driver allowed the students to continue screaming at the man, the report states.
Some of the students allegedly said the man’s house would be shot up and “sprayed.”
Because it was unknown who there students were, the deputy said there was little that could be done.
The man said he would speak with the school principal about the matter.

Bank account theft thwarted

A woman from Salt Marsh Circle in Pawleys Island said someone hacked into her email account and was sending mail to her bank seeking a wire transfer.

The woman was tipped off when her bank contacted her to inquire about the transfer. As  result of that call, the transfer did not take place.
The case is under investigation.
