A 73-year-old man who is on the state’s Sex Offender Registry was supposed to meet a 20-year-old woman for sex Monday night, police said, but instead he was robbed.
According to the Georgetown Police Department, 20-year-old Raquel Lashawn Lee of Emanuel Street has been charged with armed robbery and robbery while armed with a deadly weapon.
Georgetown Police Capt. Nelson Brown said the man was supposed to meet the woman at the “broken bridge” behind the Quality Inn hotel on Church Street at about 8:30 p.m. Monday.
“They were supposed to have sex for $20,” Brown said.
The man told police Lee was already there when he arrived and he slid to the passenger’s side of his truck and she got on the driver’s side.
The two were talking when both doors of the truck opened up and there were two men, one of them was holding a gun.
One of the suspects punched the man in the face and dragged him out of the vehicle.
Once the victim was on the ground, the suspects demanded money and threatened to shoot him if he did not comply.
The man only had $20 in cash which was apparently not enough because the suspects then told him to write them a check.
He did but they tore it up and demanded a new one.
The check was written in the amount of $500.
The two men and Lee then got in her vehicle and fled the scene. The man walked to the nearby Kangaroo convenience store to call for help.
Lee was later found at her residence. According to the Georgetown County Detention Center, she was booked into the jail at 3:50 a.m. Tuesday.
