A longtime Georgetown County volunteer firefighter and coach is being remembered by those who knew him as a man who cared for his community.
Darry Goss, a fire volunteer in the Pee Dee Community since 1997, was driving with his wife on Choppee Road Saturday evening when he passed out and the car ran off the road.
His wife escaped serious injury but Goss died at the hospital from heart-related natural causes, according to County Deputy Coroner Paulette Radcliffe.
County Assistant Fire Chief Tony Hucks said Goss was “a good volunteer” who was always eager to help out in any way he could.
Goss was also a volunteer coach with the County Parks and Recreation Department and headed children’s sports in the Pee Dee and Pleasant Hill areas.
