Pawleys Man Arrested For Robbery

A 31-year-old Pawleys Island man has been charged with armed robbery in connection with an incident that happened earlier this year.

Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Sgt. Neil Johnson said John Jabarr Greene, of 82 Saint Christopher Place, Pawleys Island, was arrested Tuesday afternoon for the Jan. 18 robbery of Coastal Construction in Georgetown.

When deputies arrived at Coastal Construction, they were told that one of the two employees were walking toward the back door of the business when he heard a voice call him from the wood line located behind the business, Johnson said.

When the victim turned around, he observed Greene wearing dark clothing walking toward him carrying a shotgun. The victim ran into the back door with Greene behind him into the office where the other victim was located. Once in the office, the victims were ordered to get on the ground at gunpoint.

Once on the ground, Greene took their money and ran from the business, according to Johnson.

The Georgetown County Bloodhound Team and SWAT Team responded to the scene, where the bloodhound located a trail behind the business where Greene was last seen. The bloodhound led team members to a residence on Amelia Drive in Georgetown. While at the residence, sheriff’s investigators were not able to immediately identify Greene as the one responsible for the robbery.

During the tracking of Greene, team members located evidence on the trail that was sent to SLED’s lab. Once the evidence was analyzed by SLED, sheriff’s investigators were able to obtain warrants on Greene.

He is charged with Burglary 2nd, two counts of Armed Robbery and two counts of Kidnapping and is currently being held at the Georgetown County Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing.

Georgetown deputies worked with a Jamestown police officer to apprehend a gas thief Monday afternoon.

The owner of Young Brothers Inc., located on County Line Road near the Georgetown County/Berkeley County line, said he arrived at work Monday and saw a stranger who was pumping fuel from a gas pump on the property into his truck and gas containers.

When the victim asked the man what he was doing, he reportedly said “stealing gas.”
The theft was apparently well planned because the suspect had with him a car battery, which he hooked to the pump so it would operate.

When the owner said he was calling 911, the man continued stealing the gas. When his tank and containers were full, he disconnected the battery from the pump, then jumped in his truck and started driving away. The owner, using his vehicle, tried to block the suspect in but was unsuccessful.

When he informed a dispatcher that the suspect was speeding toward Jamestown, the department there was notified and was able to stop the fleeing thief.

He was identified as a 35-year-old man from Lulu Loop in Murrells Inlet.

When he was asked about the theft, he said he “made a huge mistake” and admitted to stealing about $500 in diesel fuel.

He later said he was a member of a hunting club that uses the property and loggers had torn up the property, so he was stealing the fuel as a way to get even for the damage the loggers had caused.

The man was taken to jail.

• A member of security at the Founders Club in Pawleys Island reported an obscene case of vandalism on the golf course Saturday afternoon.

The man said he has had problems with juveniles in the area recently, and when he checked the course that day he saw someone had spray painted a design that appeared to be a penis on one of the greens at the 13th hole.

This happened a couple of days after someone pulled up a stop sign and placed it on that same hole.

The area was searched for the juveniles or any evidence such as spray cans, but nothing was found.

• Deputies arrested a Maryville man who was caught wandering inside Brookgreen Gardens at about 11:45 p.m. Monday.

A security guard spotted the 40-year-old man — who appeared to be drunk — near the main office, so he called 911.

When questioned, the man said he and his girlfriend had supper in Murrells Inlet and then she left him there to go see her other boyfriend, so he started walking home.

He said he got thirsty, so he walked inside the Brookgreen gates to find something to drink.

The area where the man was found was about a mile and a half from Highway 17, and he had a pocket full of change and could have stopped at a store to get a drink, the deputy noted in his report.

The man was charged with drunkenness and disorderly conduct. It was later learned he had been released from jail earlier that same day on unrelated charges.

• A 30-year-old Sampit woman reported receiving threatening text messages last week. She showed a deputy the texts, which state “I know who you are and I will get you when I see you.”

Another reads, “I know you are (having sex with) my man and when I catch you I am going to stab you.” The woman said she has no idea who sent the messages.

• Deputies say a 27-year-old woman is accused of using her car as a weapon after she got into an argument outside a club in Plantersville early Saturday morning.

The victim — a 27-year-old Georgetown woman — said she and the suspect — described as an acquaintance who may live in Charlotte — were drinking when they walked out they started arguing about a man they had both previously dated.

The two started physically fighting, and the suspect allegedly pushed the victim on the ground and then jumped in her Ford Navigator and hit the victim with the left front fender. She then sped away from the area.

During questioning, the victim — who suffered a minor cut on her forehead — said it was an accident but later said she believes it was done on purpose.
The suspect has not been located.

• Staff members of Waccamaw Community Hospital were forced to call 911 when a 27-year-old Florence woman went berserk inside that facility at about 5 a.m. Saturday.
Workers said the woman was yelling and attacking staff members for about an hour before the call was made.

Deputies told the intoxicated woman if she did not calm down she would be arrested. She again began to yell and would not comply with orders given by the doctor.

She was arrested, and because of her constant profanity-laced screams and the fact she tried to kick out the back window of the patrol car the deputy noted she appeared to be under the influence “of an unknown substance.”

• A McDonald Road resident said he noticed two handguns were missing from his home April 7.

He said he kept the two guns under his bed. He said the last time he actually saw the guns was on Christmas Day. There are no suspects in the case.

• A Georgetown woman was treated for minor injuries after her husband allegedly hit her on the head with a can of peanuts during an argument April 10.

The deputy who met with the woman at the emergency room said she seemed disoriented but did not have any noticeable marks.

Deputies responded to the woman’s house, and when they drove up her husband was spotted fleeing out the back door toward some woods.

A bloodhound was taken to the scene and the man was found hiding under a camper. He was arrested for domestic violence and hindering police.

• While a Pennsylvania woman vacationing in the area was enjoying a swim in the ocean at Huntington Beach State Park April 6, someone was stealing her beach bag she left on the sand.
The main thing of value inside the bag was the 29-year-old woman’s $1,800 engagement ring. No one reported seeing the theft take place.

"Berserk" ! "Berserk" ! The woman at the Waccamaw Hospital went berserk? Is that the actual medical condition she was suffering from? What do they prescribe for that? Is it contagious? Does the state insurance plan cover that?
