"Victory in 2008."

That was the theme of a Republican rally held Thursday night which drew a large crowd of GOP supporters and candidates who continue to convey their message.

Georgetown County Republican Party Chairman Tom Swatzel urged the rally attendees to not only get out and vote themselves but to get others out to vote as well.

He said the issue of "Georgetown County values" is on the line Nov. 4.

Each candidate was given a brief time to address the crowd who were enjoying a free supper.

Nancy Harrelson of Marion who is challenging U.S. Rep. Jim Clyburn, said since last Monday 2,200 signed up to volunteer for her campaign, otherwise she spent very little time talking about her campaign.

Instead, she focussed on the need to vote and the presidential race.

"If Obama wins, America as we know it s over," she said.

Jill Kelso, challenging Vida Miller for the S.C. House 108 seat, never called her opponent by name as she talked about why Miller needs to be defeated.

"My opponent is not fighting the fight. She blocked the governor's reform agenda 99 percent of the time," Kelso said. "She has had 12 years to fight the fight. We cannot afford to give her 12 more."

District 2 County Councilman Ron Charlton, who faces opposition from Democrat James Sanderson, encouraged everyone in attendance to find at least 10 other people and try to convince them to vote for Republicans.

He then spoke briefly about his record on council. He said since being elected in 1996 he has "voted against numerous tax increases" and has worked to create and keep jobs in the county.

Sanderson is president of the United Steelworkers of America Local 7898. Charlton said one of his accomplishments as a council member was to help the steelworkers in Georgetown when the plant closed down a few years ago.

He said he fought to help get job training for the laid off workers who were in need.

"We know we have a tough budget year coming up. This will not be a good time for on-the-job training for anyone (on council)," he said.

Bruce Yablin, running for County Council District 4, said he is running because he was challenged to run by a Democrat on County Council. He did not name the council person who issued the challenge.

Yablin, blaming both council and the newspapers, said there is a "lack of communication" that he would like to fix if elected.

Taxes is another issue Yablin said he will address as a member of council. He said he bought a a new car and when he realized the amount of taxes he would have to pay, he sold it and bought a 20-year-old vehicle.

In an effort to save lives and property, Yablin said he wants to see the county pass an ordinance requiring sprinkler systems in all buildings.

Rod Stalvey, candidate for County Auditor, said he is running to be an advocate for all taxpayers.

"One voice and one person can make a difference," he said.

As the speeches were still taking place, rally organizer Vikky Ferris received a call on her cell phone announcing a "special guest" was about to arrive. Moments later a Sarah Palin look-a-like -- armed with a shotgun -- walked in.

She shook hands as she made her way to the platform where she said she could not stay long because she had to go "knock the socks off Joe Biden" at the debate that took place later that evening.

Mr. Goude: How you gonna get to heaven?

Posted by Sickoyosh*t on 10/15/2008

Mr. Sicko, I would be interested in knowing how you find anything that resembles hatred or racism in anything I have written. Is that your tactic in this election debate? If someone doesn't agree with Obama's policies, they are labeled as racists and haters of African Americans? That won't work with me because I am neither. The race issue was brought up by you. Read your quote "The real problem with Barack Obama is that he is black and ya'll are a bunch of racists". In response to this statement I merely made the counterpoint. You left out the most common misquoted verse "Judge not lest ye be judged". You may want to consider the verses dealing with taking the plank out of one's eye before trying to remove the speck in someone else's. Since the last question you posed does not apply to me, I'll let those guilty of your accusations answer for themselves. As I said previously "I would look forward to civil debate on the issues of this election". And Mr. GoBama, I don't think anyone is going to be able to compete with ACORN when it comes to voter fraud. Would you guys mind using the name on your voter registration cards when you post on here? I would like to know who I am really talking to. Obviously we disagree on issues. I'll gladly defend my positions. There's no reason to get angry....its all a matter of opinion.

Be honest with yourselves the main reason why you don't want Obama to be president is because he is black, you're sugarcoating the real reason with other stuff. The voting polls are going to do everything they can to turn away voters on Nov. 4th so they won't be able to vote for him.

Mr. Goude: The Rapture isn't in the Bible either, so don't go jumpin on old St. Pete just because he may be Hispanic and in charge of the borders to heaven. As far as racism in elections are concerned, it is always present, particularly here in South Carolina where people, both white and black, wallow in it. From whites this time, it takes the form of "the end of America as we know it." As far as the hatred and resentment in the heart of blacks, it does not justify hatred in return (just as their hatred is wrong). But then again, I may not be as familiar with the Bible as you. But I do remember the part about loving our neighbors being the greatest Commandment, the obligation to turn the other cheek when slapped, the notion of giving also our cloak to those who ask for our coat, and, my particular favorite, just how hard it is for a rich man to get into heaven. Besides that, I've always like St. Paul's comment that evil cannot be overcome with evil. So, once again, I pose the question to those with racial hatred in their hearts (whether white, black, brown, red, yellow, olive or any combination thereof): Howl do you expect to get into heaven with all that hatred weighing you down?

Posted by Sickoyosh't on 10/14/2008

To sicko. WOW you need to chill. If someone wanted to play the race card, a good case could be made that over 90% of African Americans are supporting Obama. Therefore that is racism. Equality cuts both ways. With that said let's test your racism status. If Barack Hussein Obama was running as a conservative Republican, would his white mother become an issue for you. As far as the race argument goes, I could care less. I would vote for J.C. Watts, Michael Steele or any other African American who aligns his campaign with my conservative views. Senator Obama is the most liberal member of the Senate. He is evasive and has some dubious relationships with radical leftists. I believe once he is sworn in "the chickens will come home to roost". If you think that makes me a racist then your definition of racism is skewed. And just so you'll know there is nothing in the bible about St. Peter being the admissions administrator. I realize racism exists but it is counterproductive to interject racism in this political debate. You will lose the debate everytime because every one that disagrees with you or Senator Obama is not racist. You need to stay with the issues.

Posted by Michael Goude on 10/12/2008

Come on, admit it. Obama is just another run-of-the-mill Democrat. That's nothing new--nothing that will "destroy America as we know it." America survived Democrats before--Johnson, Carter, Clinton. What is destroying America as we know it has been the greed set loose by the so-called Reagan Revolution deregulating everything. Can't blame Obama for that. He's the new kid on the block. The real problem with Barack Obama is that he is black and ya'll are a bunch of racists. How in the world do you expect to get to heaven with so much hatred in your heart? What if St. Peter is Hispanic and doesn't like racists. Talk about border problems! How about Jesus? Think he's a racist? Think God, who created everybody and everything is a racist? Didn't think so. If they ain't, you shouldn't be either.

This woman doesn't look even a little like Palin. This whole thing was lame ... especially not having a picture online with this story.

Kelvin Williams you have lost your mind to think that Obama will win the election. People will have to be a complete fool to vote for a fraud like Obama. Some people blame President Bush for the problems we face as a nation but the truth of the matter it all started before he took office. Liberals like Williams will always blame other people for their part of the problem. Williams take you head out of the paper bag and wake up to reality about life and if you think its bad now what do you think it would be like if Obama win the election. The liberals would try and give everything away and it would destroy this nation as we know it. Table1945

Posted by table1945 on 10/8/2008

Hey Kelvin, we meet again. Looks like we may respectfully disagree on this issue too. I don't think this crisis we're in exempts either party from culpabilty. There's a saying about politicians.."they go to Washington to do good and end up doing well". I certainly don't want to be guilty of being stereotypical because I know there are politicians in both parties who succeed in "doing good". But there are members on both sides that have "done well" in this instance. I hope they all get prison time if found guilty. Being a conservative Republican doesn't mean I would go along with everything my party did, does, or will do. But it does mean I will passionately defend them when I think they are being maligned. As I'm sure you would do as well. I give the war in Iraq as an example. Because of the daily drum beat from the anti Bush media, Americans have forgotten how we got there in the first place. This is not an attempt to change any one's mind. Just a reminder of the facts as I see them. It is documented Clinton suggested Sadaam Hussein be taken out. Sandy Berger verified this. Madeline Albright said he was a danger to us. Ted Kennedy said he had weapons of mass destruction. John Kerry agreed. Hillary Clinton agreed based on not only the intelligence given to the senate but also additional information she was privy to because of years in the White House. There were 17 resolutions with the United Nations peace treaty he violated after being removed from Kuwait. He was also shooting at our planes in the no fly zone. These issues alone in my opinion did not justify invading Iraq. I will concede that. But after 9-11, I must give George W. Bush the benefit of the doubt that after such an horrific act of terror, he believed we were vulnerable to another attack and Sadaam seemed the most likely. George W. Bush was not the only one to believe this tyrant had WMD's. There is a book by one of Iraq's Air force generals by the name George Sada entitled "Sadaam's Secrets". He explains how WMD's were removed from Iraq. It is very compelling. I know looking back on an unpopular war, career politicians want to spin their involvement in that decision to approve a war resolution. But the fact is they did approve it. Obama said he would not have cast a vote in favor. Obama is also an aspiring career politician. Had he been there he may have been in that number. He can't say he used better judgement because that is purely a hypothetical assumption on his part. Even if that is what he would have done. His judgement is lacking, in my opinion, to not support the surge. Then after seeing it to be successful saying if he could do it all over again he would still vote against it. I fear his strategy to place a time line and pull out will surely make victory unattainable. Whether this nation agrees on how we got there is irrelevant now. We must leave the decision to leave to the independent thinking of the Commanders on the ground. I hope if elected he will do that. I would look forward to civil debate on the issues of this election.

To LOL: Wow, the old Republican chant, "Elect a Democrat, and your taxes will go up." Under Bush Administration our national debt has grown tremendously. Do you know who has been bailing us out on a daily basis? China! Now, which is worse, being owned by China or paying a little more in taxes to knock that debt back down? Barack Obama has made it quite clear that middle class families won't see any tax increase, while individuals like myself will. Honestly, I don't mind paying the taxes. The only time I get bent out of shape about paying taxes is when it comes to financing a war where five years later we are still looking for those darn Weapons of Mass Destruction. I believe that its time that you start preparing for a Democratic-held White House, and Democratic control in the House and Senate. Because, McSame has lost this race, look at every poll and tally. The only way he will win this race is to steal it--but that's been done before.

How can Ron Charlton tell a bold face lie about helping the Steelworkers? He claims that he fought to help get job training for the laid off workers who were in need. What else is he lying about? We all know that James Sanderson processed the application for the trade assistance under the TAA act. This is provided for under Federal law. Please tell us Ron what role you played and how you fought for this. We have the letter addressed to James Sanderson verifying this. The media should perform a fact check prior to printing the statement made by politicians. Maybe the truth will come out first then. Don't worry what goes around comes around.

While I agree that this whole fiasco is a bad situation I dont agree that the responsibility rest solely on the republican party. As a business owner you think that Obama will help you when he gets in office? All that will be different is that we wont have any checks and balances in a totally democratic run Govt. and your taxes WILL go up. Again I do agree that we have to do something about the crooks who swindled people on purpose but I dont think Obama is the answer.

Nancy Harrelson is sooooo right. If Obama wins on November 4th, America as we know it will be over. $810 Billion. $810,000,000,000.00. Just went into the pockets of companies that knowingly defrauded investors, knowingly suckered individuals into mortgages (I'm not talking about those who knew they couldn't afford the house they are buying) and then jacked up the interest rate to a monthly payment that was astronomical. Yet, you and I are now on the hook for their greed. What in the world is going on in America? As a business owner, I have to be extremely cautious in every deal that I make, because I know the wrong decision could bankrupt me, and something tells me, that if I go bankrupt, my employees, along with myself, will just be S.O.L. The government will not jump in to help me, or any other average business owner. So, if America as we know it is going to be over on January 20th, I welcome the change.
