Fred Best
Fred Best, 87, of McClellanville, a retired Francis Marion National Forest wildlife technician, died Sunday, Nov. 23, 2008 in Hospice of Charleston Hospice Center in Mt. Pleasant.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2008 at 11 a.m. in New Wappetaw Presbyterian Church. Officiating will be Dr. Walter Cook and Dr. Michael Fitze. Burial, directed by Graham Funeral Home of Georgetown, will be at 3 p.m. in Sandy Plains Cemetery in Gallivants Ferry. Sign a guestbook at www.grahamfuneralhome.org.
He was born April 12, 1921 in Gallivants Ferry, a son of the late Jamie M. Best and the late Laura Mae Wingard Best.
Mr. Best was employed with the S.C. Department of Natural Resources for 33 years, retiring in 2000. He was a graduate of Clemson University. He was a U. S. Army Air Corps World War II veteran. He was a German POW and served 13 months at Stalag 17. He helped organize the Lowcountry chapter of ex-prisoners of war and had served as both local and state commander.
He was a member of New Wappetaw Presbyterian Church where he served as an elder and was a member of the men's club.
Surviving are: his wife of 63 years, Dorothy H. Best; two daughters-in-law, Nancy Best Deloach of Chapin and Meg Best of Mesa, Ariz.; three grandchildren Gary Best (Tracy) of Abbeville, Kelly Hale (Chad) of Chapin and Don Best (Tracy) of Woodinville, Wash.; one step-granddaughter McKenna Best of Mesa, Ariz.; five great-grandchildren; one brother, Pressley Best of Gallivants Ferry; three sisters, Hattie Polk of Waynesville, N.C., Miriam Altman of Summerville and Barbara Shelley of Greenwood and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by two sons, Jerry H. Best and Danny R. Best.

Cynthia K. Callaway
Cynthia Kelley Callaway, 89, of Georgetown, died at her home on the Black River, Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2008.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Nov. 29th, at 2 p.m. at Myrtle Beach First Baptist Church.
Arrangements are by the Georgetown Chapel of Mayer Funeral Home.
Elizabeth A. Canfield
Elizabeth "Bettie" Canfield, 87, of Murrells Inlet, died Saturday, Nov. 22, 2008 at her residence.

She was born in Philadelphia, Penn., a daughter of the late Frank L. and Elizabeth Hesson. She was employed at State Farm for 27 years in Trenton, N.J.
Survivors include two sisters, Joan Young of White Plains, Md., and June Hahn of Murrells Inlet.
George A. Cannon
George Albert "Al" Cannon, 65, of Andrews, widower of Sharon Cannon, died Monday, Nov. 17, 2008, at Hillside Manor House Center in Missoula, Mont.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2008, at Oak Ridge Pentecostal Holiness Church. Burial, directed by the Andrews Chapel of McKenzie Funeral Home, will follow in the Harmony Cemetery.
Visitation will be prior to the service from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2008, in the sanctuary.
Mr. Cannon was born Sept. 1, 1943, in Georgetown, the son of Rev. Mannie Cannon and Linda Vernell Cannon.
He is survived by: five children, Bradley Daniels (Diane), Albert Cannon (Debra), Justine Medlin (Joseph), Tony Cannon (Vicky) and Jodi Britt (Donnie); a brother, James "Billy" D Cannon (Jimmy Faye); three sisters, Betty Newton (Alton), Shirley Kennedy (Al), and Vera Howard (Rev. David); 22 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by: his parents; his wife; and three brothers, George Cannon, Freddie Cannon and Jessie Cannon.
Lillie M. Cooper
Lillie Mae Cooper, 79, of Georgetown, died Monday, Nov. 24, 2008 at Georgetown Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 28, 2008 at New Hope UME Church. Burial, directed by Wilds Funeral Home, will follow in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Cooper was born July 16, 1929 in Georgetown, a daughter of the late Solomon Duncan and the late Annie Lee Robinson Duncan. She attended Georgetown County public schools and New Hope UME Church, where she was a member of the Usher Board. She was a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include: five sons, J.D. Cooper of Jacksonville, N.C., Jimmy Cooper, Marion Cooper Jr., Joseph Cooper and Solomon Cooper, all of Georgetown; six daughters, Shirvey Hawkins, Annie Iszard, Vervitine Lawrence, Patricia Cooper-Brown, Mary Cooper-Beckman and Diane Edwards, all of Georgetown; her sister, Bertha Wilgfall; and five brothers, Henderson Duncan, Solomon Duncan Jr., James Duncan, Silas Duncan and John Duncan, all of Jacksonville, N.C.
Sarah F. Dozier
Sarah Fludd Dozier, 64, of Georgetown, died Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2008 at Georgetown Memorial Hospital. She was a dietitian.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by Wilds Funeral Home.
Terrence J. Frost
Terrence Jesse Frost of Lauderhill, Fla., died Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2008 at Florida Medical Center.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2008 at Mt. Zion AME Church. Burial, under the direction of Linen-Knox Funeral Home, will follow in the church cemetery.
Friends and family may call at the home at 112 Jessie Trail Dr. in the North Santee community of Georgetown.
Mr. Frost was born at St. John's Hospital in New York on June 1, 1977, a son of Brenda L. Frost Garlin and Clifton Gayle.
He attended a private school in New York until he moved back to Georgetown. He graduated from Georgetown High School. He was a member of Mt. Zion AME Church.
Survivors include: his wife Patricia Frost of Florida; his grandmother, Ruth Frost of Georgetown; his mother, Brenda L. Frost Garlin of Far Rockaway, N.Y.; his father, Clifton Gayle of Georgia; one daughter, Yasmin Frost; one son, Yavon Frost, both of Lauderhill, Fla.; four sisters, Tellene Garlin and Regina, both of New York; Annissa and Rosa Marie, both of Georgia; eight brothers, Paul, Cedric, James, Charles, DaJohn and Nathel, all of New York, Clifton Jr. of the West Indies and Cameron of Florida.
Arthur V. Milloway
Arthur Virgil Milloway, 89, of Summerville, died Sunday, Nov. 23, 2008, at The Village in Summerville.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2008, at Georgetown Presbyterian Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Stephen H. Wilkins and Chaplain Achim Daffin of The Village. Mr. Milloway was born in Durham, N.C. on June 23, 1919, a son of the late Eugene Churchill Milloway and Myrtle Wilson Milloway. He was in the U. S. Navy during World War II. Mr. Milloway worked with Parrish Motor Co. for 21 years and retired from the Georgetown City school system in 1977.
Mr. Milloway was an active member of Georgetown Presbyterian Church. He served his church as Sunday School superintendent, a Sunday School teacher, deacon, and elder. He was a past commander of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 6444, a past president of the Navy Club, and a member of the Toastmasters Club. He was also a former member of the Winyah Bay Country Club and the Georgetown Country Club.
Surviving are: his wife of 62 years, Sara Huggins Milloway of Summerville; a son, Arthur V. Milloway Jr. (Beverly) of Arden, N. C.; a grandson, Matthew J. Milloway of Savannah, Ga.; and five nephews.

Peter Newell
Peter Paul Stephen Newell, 46, of Murrells Inlet, died Sunday, Nov. 23, 2008 at his residence.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 29, 2008 at Belin Memorial United Methodist Church with The Reverend Dr. B. Mike Alexander officiating.

Mr. Newell was born in Summit, N.J., a son of Dr. Frank Newell and the late Rita Zellweger Newell.
Survivors include: his father of Hendersonville, N.C.; his wife, Cherie Tiffany Newell of Murrells Inlet; one son, Coby Newell of Murrells Inlet; two daughters, Kelly and Kimberly of Murrells Inlet; two brothers, Robert Newell of Westfield, N.J. and Kent Newell of Highland, Ill.; one sister, Kimberly Muche of Canandaigua, NY.

Perrineau Scott
Perrineau Scott, 89, of Georgetown, died Saturday, Nov. 22, 2008 at Georgetown Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 28, 2008 at Bethel AME Church. Burial, directed by Wilds Funeral Home of Georgetown, will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12 to 1 p.m. at the church, prior to the funeral.
Mr. Scott was born Feb. 7, 1919 at Johns Island, a son of the late Perrineau Scott Sr. and the late Hattie Simmons Scott. He attended Georgetown public schools and Bethel AME Church. He lived in New York City from age 24 until after he retired as a ceramic tile maker.
Survivors include: his son, Harry Scott of New York, N.Y.; his daughter, Yvonne Baker of Boston, Mass.; 14 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
