John Collins
John L. Collins, 77, died November 1, 2009 at Georgetown Memorial Hospital.
A funeral service, officiated by Rev. Clyde Glover, will be at Georgetown Pentecostal Holiness Church on Thursday, November 5, 2009 at 2p.m.
Burial, directed by Graham Funeral Home will follow at Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens.
He was born April 30, 1932 in Georgetown, a son of the late Major D. Collins and the late Iva Virginia McClellan Collins.
Mr. Collins was a veteran who retired from the United States Air Force as a Master Sergeant.
He served in both the Korean and Vietnam War.
During his service, he also earned the Soldiers Medal as a member of the Green Berets.
Mr. Collins was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
He was an avid fisherman and a charter member of the Winyah Bassmasters.
Surviving are his wife, Delta Carter Collins; two daughters, Patricia "Patty" (LeGrand) Wilson of Eastover, SC, and Victoria "Vicky" Collins of Georgetown; three grandchildren, David M. (Joann) Lambert Jr., Arthur Ray (Maryanne) Lambert, and John (Sarah) Lambert; seven great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends prior to the funeral service on Thursday, November 5, 2009 from 12p.m.-2p.m. at the church.

Joseph McAlister Sr.
Joseph "Joe" Lamar McAlister, Sr., 90, of Georgetown died Saturday Oct. 31, 2009 in Georgetown.
Mr. McAlister was born in Lake City, SC, a son of the late Charles B. and Ludie Ward McAlister.
He was the former owner and operator of McAlister's Grocery Store, a member of Herbert Memorial United Methodist Church, Methodist Men's Club, Methodist Men's Bible Class and the American Legion.
He was a former member of the Hemingway Fire Department, former board member and treasurer of the Hemingway Campground and Hemingway Town Council. He was a Buck Sergeant in the US Army during WWII.
He was married to the late Dorothy Lambert McAlister.
Surviving are his children, J. L. McAlister, Jr., Glenda McAlister Turner and Dale L. McAlister, all of Georgetown; a sister, Sybil McAlister McClary of Kingstree; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 2, 2009 in the Morris Funeral Home Chapel in Hemingway with burial in the Garden of Devotion Cemetery.
The family received friends at the funeral home from 1 to 2 PM Monday Nov. 2, 2009.
Memorials may be made to the Herbert Memorial United Methodist Church, Georgetown, SC.
Juanita Mitchum
Juanita "Nita" Allen Mitchum, 95, widow of Theodore Pershing "Porter" Mitchum died November 1, 2009 at Waccamaw Community Hospital.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 7, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. in First Baptist Church of Georgetown.
She was born July 10, 1914 in Ruby, SC, a daughter of the late Herman Joseph Allen and the late Sallie Smith Allen.
Mrs. Mitchum was a graduate of University of South Carolina and a retired mathematics teacher serving Georgetown County School District for 42 years.
She was a member of First Baptist Church of Georgetown and the Fidelis Class.
Mrs. Mitchum was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother that enjoyed flowers and gardening.
Surviving are one daughter, Jane M. Robeson and her husband Ervin, of Huger; One grandson, James "Jamie" Ervin Jr.; one sister, Dottie Eloise Meanius of North Myrtle Beach; one brother, Gerome Brooks Allen of Fayetteville, NC; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was predeceased by; one sister, Sarah Dell Allen; and two brothers, Leslie Murray Allen and Joseph "Tony" Ross Allen.
Visitation will be held Friday November 6, 2009 from 6-8 p.m. at Graham Funeral Home of Georgetown.

Leroy Scott
Linen-Knox Funeral Home announces the passing of Mr. Leroy Bells Scott of 55 Tailwater Trail of Georgetown, formally of Kingstree.
Mr. Scott died at 5:22 am Saturday October 31, 2009 at his place of residence.
Funeral will be Saturday, Nov. 7, 2009 at Tabernacle House of Prayer on 11 Seaboard Street in Georgetown, SC, directed by Linen-Knox Funeral Home.
Burial will be in Green Lawn Cemetery in Kingstree, SC.
Mr. Scott was born 11/07/1947 in Williamsburg County, a son of Corrine Bells McCullough.
He attended school in Williamsburg County School District, and later when to Job Corp in Washington, DC.
Mr. Scott is survived by his wife Diane Cuttray Scott of Georgetown; his eight daughters, LaToya M. Shaw of Kingstree, Tanya Ellicott, LaTashca Knight, Jalanda Cuttray, Janeyia Rice, Dorlena Scottand Tina Russell, all of Georgetoown, LaToyia Legette of Columbia, SC, and Janice McCullough of Lakeside, Fla.; and his three sons, Samuel I. Brown and Donte C. Brown, both of Florence and Delwin Brown of Longs, SC.
