Robert D'Ambrosio

Robert "Chip" D'Ambrosio age 68, of Pawleys Island, died Friday, June 5, 2009 at his residence.

Mr. D'Ambrosio was born and raised in South Philadelphia, PA, a son of the late Ovid and Marion D'Ambrosio. He attended the LaSalle Prep School and received both undergraduate and law degrees from Villanova University. He was admitted to the bar in Pennsylvania and was a member of American Bar Association. Mr. D'Ambrosio was a veteran of the United States Air Force and the USAF Reserve, retiring as a Colonel in the JAG Corps. He was a Civil Service Attorney for the Military Commissary System in Richmond, VA.

He volunteered with the Georgetown Hospital Auxiliary and also with the Pawleys Island Rescue Squad. Mr. D'Ambrosio was a member of Holy Cross Faith Memorial Episcopal Church where he was a choir member. Chip was especially known for his quick wit, entertaining friends and family. This gift was also on display when he performed sketches with the Coastal Chorale. Mr. D'Ambrosio loved the Phillies and Villanova Basketball.

Survivors include his wife, Dottie D'Ambrosio; two step-sons, Steven and his wife Cheryl Modesto of Richmond, VA and Michael and wife Janet Modesto of Little Rock, AR; a step-daughter, Karin DeAngelis and her husband Tom of Bowie, MD; grandchildren, Max, Amelia, Wilson and Penelope Modesto and expected grandchild in July of 2009, Luca DeAngelis. Locally Chip is survived by his cousin; Helen Hilliard and husband, George.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

McArthur Cohen

McArthur Cohen, 62, of 1108 Cohen Drive of Hemingway, SC departed this life Sunday, May 31, 2009 in Georgetown Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services were Saturday, June 6, 2009 at 12:00 noon at Trinity AME Church in the Pee Dee Community with the Rev. John Sumpter officiating; Rev. Herman Ford, Jr., Pastor. Burial followed in the Church Cemetery under the direction of McKnight-Fraser Funeral Home.

Mr. Cohen, a son of the late Mr. Mack and Mrs. Reather Cohen, was born October 1, 1946 in Georgetown County. He received his education in the Georgetown County public schools system and was a member of Trinity AME Church.

Survivors are: his former wife, Serena Cohen of Hickory, NC; one son, Dietrich Cohen Sr. of New Haven, CT; one sister, Beatrice Lewis of New Haven, CT; two brothers, Robert Cohen of Hemingway, SC and Riley Cohen of Warner Robbins, GA; three grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.

Gillie D. Owens Jr.

Gillie Davis "G.D." Owens Jr., 74, of Hemingway, died Sunday, June 2, 2009 at McLeod Hospice House in Florence.

His family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, June 8, 2009 at Morris Funeral Home in Hemingway. Funeral arrangements will be announced by the funeral home.

Larry O. Hyman

Larry O. Hyman, 75, of Georgetown, widower of Barbara Ann Hyman, died Friday, June 5, 2009 in Georgetown Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be held Monday, June 8, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. in East Side Freewill Baptist Church. Officiating will be Rev. Raymond Haselden and Rev. Ronald Ward. Burial, directed by Graham Funeral Home, will follow in Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens.

He was born August 24, 1933 in Horry County, a son of the late Bright Hyman and Myrtle Barnhill Hyman.

Mr. Hyman was a retired deputy with the Georgetown County Sheriff's Department and enjoyed fishing as his hobby. He attended East Side Freewill Baptist Church.

Surviving are: one son, Anthony Hyman and his wife Wendy of Georgetown; two daughters, Terea Johnson and her husband Rob of Columbia and Cayatana Palumbo and her husband Tony of Bryon, Georgia; one brother, Paul Hyman of Gresham; five sisters, Lorraine Cox of Georgetown, Doris Lewis and Maggie Lewis both of Conway, Bobbie Barnhill of Aynor and Hilda Graham of Surfside Beach; six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

The family received friends from 3-5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

John N. Wallace

Funeral services for the late John Nicholas Wallace were held 1 p.m. Saturday, June 6,2009 at St. Paul UM Church in Nesmith. The Rev. Franklin James, Pastor, conducted the religious services. Interment followed in the Pine Grove Cemetery in Lynn, MA. Nesmith-Pinckney Funeral Home of Hemingway is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Wallace entered into eternal rest on Saturday, May 30, 2009 at his residence in Nesmith after an illness.

He was born in Williamsburg County, a son of the late John and Celia Graham Wallace. He was educated in the public schools of Williamsburg County. He was employed at General Electric Corp. in New England. He was joined in holy wedlock to Ora Porcher. To this union, ten children were born.

He leaves to cherish his memories: his wife, Ora Wallace of Nesmith; two sons, Lohnny Wallace of Lawrence, MA, Gerald Wallace of Tacoma, WA; eight daughters, Joyce Wallace of Lynn, MA, Cheryl (Kendal) Chrysotom of Newton, NH, Janyce Wallace of Albuquerque, NM, Vanessa Wallace of Manchester, NH, Lilliane (John) Brumwell of Las Vegas, NV, Karyn Wallace of Charleston, SC, Chanelle Wallace of Birlington, NJ; 25 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
