Thurmond Bromell
Thurmond Bromell, 52, of Georgetown died on Friday, June 5, 2009 at Georgetown Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services for Mr. Bromell will be held 2 p.m. on Wednesday, June 10, 2009 at St. Paul AME Church, Plantersville Community, Georgetown.
Mr. Bromell was born April 20, 1957 in Georgetown, SC to Mrs. Beulah White Bromell and Doc Bromell.
He attended Choppee High School, Georgetown, SC and Denmark College, Denmark, SC. He was a disabled truck driver.
Mr. Bromell is survived by his wife, Sylvia Bellamy Bromell of Georgetown, SC; his sons: Cedric Bromell of Nashville, TN, Thurmond Bromell, Jr. and LaKeith Bromell of Georgetown, SC; a sister, Rutha Bromell, four brothers: James Bromell, Cephus Linen, Watson Bromell and Odell Bromell, all of Georgetown, SC; one grandchild.
George W. Carnley, Sr.
George W. (Dub) Carnley, Sr., 91, of Georgetown, died Tuesday, June 9, 2009 at his residence.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 11, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. in First Baptist Church. Officiating will be Dr. Ted Sherrill and Rev. Hiram McElrath. Burial, directed by Graham Funeral Home, will follow in Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens.
He was born October 18, 1917 in Laurel Hill, Florida, a son of the late Joseph Henry Carnley and the late Della Paul Carnley.
Mr. Carnley was a retired foreman with International Paper. He was a World War II and Korean War U. S. Navy Veteran. He was a member of First Baptist and the Fellowship Sunday School Class. He was also a former deacon and was active in almost all church work for many years. He also was active for many years with the Big Brother Organization.
Surviving are: his wife, Vernelle C. Carnley of the home; one son, George W. Carnley, Jr. and his wife Rosie of Georgetown; one daughter, Joy C. Moring and her husband Richard of Georgetown; four grandchildren, Roxanne Harper of Conway, Morgan Carnley, Jamison Moring and Jessica Moring all of Georgetown and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by two brothers and two sisters.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 a. m. until 11:00 a. m. at First Baptist Church on Thursday.

Miriam Thirzah Cohen, of Andrews, infant daughter of Donald Matthew Cohen and Priscilla Ruth Harvey Cohen died Sunday, June 7, 2009 in Georgetown Memorial Hospital.
A graveside committal service will be held Thursday, June 11, 2009 at 5:00 p.m. in Andrews Memorial Cemetery. Officiating will be Rev. Larry Moultrie. A memorial service will be held Thursday, June 11, 2009 at 6:30 p. m. at the south end of Pawleys Island. Officiating will be Rev. Rod Reid.
Surviving in addition to her parents are her paternal grandparents, Donald H. Cohen of Mechanicsville, PA and Shirley Groff Dempster of Arkport, NY; her maternal grandmother, Margaret Harvey; three brothers, Caleb, Benjamin and Josiah and one sister, Hannah.
Vanessa J. Deas
Vanessa Jackson Deas, 47, of Georgetown died on Monday, June 1, 2009 at Georgetown Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services for Mrs. Deas were held 11 a.m. on Monday, June 8, 2009 at Lighthouse of Jesus Christ Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Deas was born November 29, 1961 in New Haven, CT to Louise Greene Jackson and Adam Jackson, Sr.
She attended the public schools of New Haven, CT and was a member of Lighthouse of Jesus Christ Church.
Mrs. Deas is survived by her husband, Joe Deas of Georgetown, SC; two daughters: LaVera Jackson of New Haven, CT and Doreatha Jackson of Myrtle Beach, SC; her brothers: Kenneth Jackson, Sr. and Adam Jackson of New Haven, CT.
Marcella S. Duncan
Mrs. Marcella S. Duncan died on June 6, 2009. Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Thursday, June 11, 2009 at St. John AME Church.

Margaret J. L. Neeley
Margaret Jane Lambert Neeley, 79, of Georgetown, went home peacefully to rest eternally in the arms of her Lord and Savior on Monday afternoon, June 8, 2009, at the Georgetown Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Neeley, the widow of Willie Rob Neeley, was a daughter of Jessie Lambert and Bythie L. Cox-Lambert. She was born March 15, 1930, in Georgetown. She was a lifelong resident of Georgetown County and a member of Rock Pentecostal Holiness Church where she was a church musician and soloist in her younger years. She was a devoted wife and a loving-caring mother of her cherished daughters. She shared her passion for music as a formal guitar player and singer.
She leaves behind her two daughters, Willie Jane N. (Robert James) Prosser and Linda Jo Neeley, both of Georgetown; two sisters, Bessie L. Moore of Georgetown, and Irene L. (Randolph) Taylor of Bonneau; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
She was predeceased by her parents; four brothers, Jasper Cox, Jessie Lambert, Jr., Bell Loyd Lambert, and Floyd Lambert; and two sisters, Elizabeth Cox Reeves and Etta Mae Lambert West.
Funeral services will be 2 PM, Thursday, June 11, 2009, at Rock Pentecostal Holiness Church. Interment will follow in the Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens directed by the Georgetown Chapel of McKenzie Funeral Home.
Visitation will 7-9 PM Wednesday evening, June 10, 2009, at the Georgetown Chapel.

Gillie D. Owens Jr.
Gillie Davis "G.D." Owens Jr., 74, of Hemingway, died Sunday, June 7, 2009 in the McLeod Hospice House.
Mr. Owens was born in Georgetown County, a son of the late Gillie Davis Owens Sr. and the late Getha Baxley Owens. He was a retired carpenter and farmer, a member of the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church and attended Pleasant Hill schools.
Surviving are his wife, Barbara B. Owens of the home; children, Amelia (Will) Dennis of Pamplico, SC, Marsha (Bob) Davis and Marty (Maria) Owens, both of Hemingway, SC; sister, Geth Ann Owens of Kingstree, SC; grandchildren, Tracy (Andrew) Jacobs of Florence, SC, Jason C. Tilton of Pamplico, SC, Regina (Cal) Ard of Johnsonville, SC, Melanie Davis, Keith Graham and Garrett Owens, all of Hemingway, SC; and 5 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Owens was predeceased by a brother, Dainly Bill Owens; sister, Mary Lee Tanner.
Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Tuesday, June 9, 2009 in the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. Burial, directed by Morris Funeral Home of Hemingway, was in the church cemetery.
