Margaret Marie Ard Blakely, 75, of Georgetown, the widow of Billy Blakely, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday morning, January 28, 2012, at her daughter’s residence.
Mrs. Blakely was born the daughter of Septimus Ard and Essie Shelly Ard on May 3, 1936 in Mullins.
She was a retired seamstress with Oneita Industries and was a foster parent for South Carolina Mentor for many years.
Mrs. Blakely was a faithful and dedicated member of North Hampton Baptist Church.
She leaves behind five daughters, Rose (Randy) Cooper, Judith Sessions, Cindy (Jed) Gainey, Jennie (Dovall) Miller, and Jennifer (Sean) O’Melia; four sons, Tony (Sara) Marlowe, Raymond (Jan) Blakely, Timmy (Cecilia) Blakely, and Danny Blakely; 20 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; a sister, Bobbie J. Bullock; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents; her husband; two sons, Wayne D. Marlowe and Jessie L. Marlowe; two grandchildren, Senena S. Elliott and Bruce E. Young; a son-in-law, David B. Sessions; and a brother-in-law, Donial L. Bullock.
A Home Going Celebration Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday morning, January 30, 2012, at the North Hampton Baptist Church with interment in the church cemetery directed by the Georgetown Chapel of McKenzie Funeral Home.
Visitation was from 6 to 9 p.m. on Sunday, January 29, 2012, at the Georgetown Chapel.

David Bruce
David Peter Bruce of Georgetown went to live with the Lord on January 26, 2012, at the age of 76.
Mr. Bruce was a long time resident of Darien, Connecticut and retired to DeBordieu.
He fought a long and courageous battle with angiosarcoma, a very rare form of cancer.
He was the son of the late Helen Peter Bruce and William Giles Bruce.
Mr. Bruce was born in New Rochelle, N.Y. and graduated from New Rochelle High School.
He majored in textile engineering at North Carolina State.
He served in the United State Navy and was aboard both the USS Wasp and USS Saratoga and played on the all Navy golf team.
Mr. Bruce worked in the apparel industry for his entire career.
His positions included director of sales and marketing for a division of VF Corporation, president of SKYR Sportswear, a division of Scandia Trading Company and president of Tanner Wholesale.
He was an accomplished amateur golfer who won many tournaments both regionally and at the golf courses that he belonged to.
In 2006, he won the Carolinas Golf Association Super Senior Championship.
Mr. Bruce is survived by his wife, Marilyn Meding Bruce; his two sons, Jeffrey David Bruce of Richmond, Virginia and Kent David Bruce and his wife Renee of Seattle, Wash.; three grandchildren, Jordan, Landen and Reagan; a brother, William G. Bruce and his wife Elizabeth of Lake Placid, N.Y.
Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. on Thursday, February 2, 2012, at Pawleys Island Community Church.

Betty Watson Evans, 68, of Georgetown, S.C. died Thursday morning, January 26, 2012, at Georgetown Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, January 31, 2012, at Dickerson AME Church with burial following in Morning Glory Cemetery.
Mrs. Evans was born January 6, 1944, in Georgetown Leroy Sessions and Willa Sean Watson.
She worked as a housekeeper at Carolina Winds, Myrtle Beach, S.C.
She was a member of Dickerson AME Church.
She was the widow of Cornelius Evans.
Survivors include her children, Nolanda C. Evans of Atlanta, Ga., and Cornelius Evans, Jr. and Shanavia E. Dozier, both of Georgetown; her father, Leroy Sessions; her sisters, Flossie Watson Ray of Warren, Ohio, Carolyn Watson and Barbara Ann Watson of Philadelphia, Pa., Wilma Link, Betty J. Williams and Theopia Deas, all of Georgetown; her brothers, Willie Watson of Fayetteville, N.C., Nathaniel Smith and John Watson, Jr., both of Georgetown, Roland Williams of Philadelphia, Pa. and Joe Sessions of Myrtle Beach.
Glenn Gamble
Glenn “Duckie” Gamble, 44, of the Oatland Community of Georgetown County, died Sunday, January 22, 2012, at Georgetown Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services were held at noon on Saturday, January 28, 2012, at Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church in the Browns Ferry Community, directed by Linen-Knox Funeral Home.
Burial was in the church cemetery.
Mr. Gamble was born on October 7, 1968, at Georgetown Memorial Hospital.
He was a son of Luther and Vernell T. Gamble of the Oatland Community.
He attended Georgetown County schools and graduated from Choppee High School in 1989.
He was a member of Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Teria W. Gamble of the Oatland Community; his parents; three sons, Nigel Gamble, Kareston Gamble and Quron Gamble, all of the Oatland Community; two sisters, Andrea G. Pringle of the Oatland Community and Maryanne Gamble of Charlotte, N.C.; one brother, Dushawn Gamble of Greensboro, N.C.; and a host of loving nieces and nephews and many relatives and friends.

Joshua Grier
Joshua Levon Grier, 25, of the Plantersville Community of Georgetown County, died Sunday, January 22, 2012, at Dekalb Medical Examiner’s Office in Decatur, Ga.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, January 28, 2012, at St. Paul AME Church in the Plantersville Community, directed by Linen-Knox Funeral Home.
Burial was in the church cemetery.
Mr. Grier was born on August 28, 1986, at Georgetown Memorial Hospital, a son of James and Jacqueline Grier of the Plantersville Community.
He attended Carvers Bay High School and was a member of St. Paul AME Church.
He was a cook at a Waffle House in Georgia.
Surviving are his parents; one daughter, Miracle Myers of the Plantersville Community; one brother, Brandon (Quoshanta) Grier of Georgetown; one nephew, Brandon Grier, Jr.; two nieces, Brandi Grier and Brayana Grier, both of Georgetown; and a host of other loving relatives and friends.

Milton Martin
Milton Keith Martin, 74, husband of Patricia Braswell Martin, passed away Thursday, January 26, 2012 at his home.
Born on March 21, 1937, in Conway, he was a son of Flora Sue Jackson Martin and the late Jessie E. Martin.
Mr. Martin was a member of First Baptist Church and was a retired wildlife supervisor with International Paper Company.
He was also an avid bass fisherman and was a member of the Tidewater Bass Club.
Survivors include his wife of Georgetown; his mother of Murrells Inlet; mother-in-law, Lillian Braswell of Georgetown; two children, Greg Martin and Marisa Cooper, both of Georgetown; four grandchildren, Tori Bowers (Robert) of Charleston and Keith Martin, Madison Cooper and Jarrett Cooper, all of Georgetown; two great-grandchildren, Brayden Bowers and Everett Bowers, both of Charleston; one brother, Roger Martin (Betty) of Myrtle Beach; three sisters, Linda Singleton of Myrtle Beach, Sandra Garrell of Surfside Beach and Judy Ballard of Conway; and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, DeeDee Martin.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, January 29, 2012, at First Baptist Church.
The Rev. Ted Sherrill and Rev. Ralph Greg officiated.
Burial will be at at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, January 31, 2012, at Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery in Brinson, Ga.

Sadie Powell
Sadie Britt Powell, 93, widow of Willard Brooks Powell, went to be with her Lord Jesus on Friday, January 27, 2012, at Tidelands Community Hospice House in Georgetown.
Mrs. Powell was born in Andrews on July 28, 1918, a daughter of the late William Dozier Britt and Susan Tempie Howard Britt.
She lived all her life in the Andrews area and was a member of the Family Worship Center.
Mrs. Powell was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Surviving are three sons, Rev. Murray W. Powell (Jean) of Andrews, Elwood Powell (Harriett), and Alfis Powell (Jackie), all of Andrews; four daughters, Dale P. Johnson (Lonnie) of Galivants Ferry, Norma P. Powell (Edwin) of Hemingway, Pate P. Taylor (Darious) of Pilot Mountain, N.C., and Stacey P. Pope (Ricky) of Georgetown; 17 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. on Sunday afternoon, January 29, 2012, at the Family Worship Center.
Officiating was the Rev. Murray W. Powell, the Rev. James L. Goude and the Rev. Thad Jacobs.
Burial followed in Piney Forest Cemetery.

Jackie Powers, Sr.
Jackie Swain Powers, Sr., 75, of Georgetown, the beloved husband of Ann Lovorn Powers, went home to be with the Lord and join his waiting loved ones on Thursday morning, January 26, 2012, at his residence.
Mr. Powers was born the son of Rev. Richard Ellerby “R.E.” Powers and Bessie Mae Hardee Cox Powers on October 12, 1936, in Andrews.
He attended Emmanuel College and the Presbyterian College where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration.
He was the vice president of sales of activewear for over 38 years with Oneita Industries.
Mr. Powers was a faithful and dedicated member of the Screven Baptist Church where over the years he labored as a deacon; a Sunday School substitute teacher for the Keystone Class; and used his talent for singing as a part-time Choir director and member.
He was a member of the Wedgefield Golf Club, DeBordieu Golf Club, and “Godfather #1” of the Georgetown Mafia Golf Club.
Mr. Powers was a world renowned traveler and entertainer, and his hearts passion and sole desire was peace, love, and joy all over the world. He committed his life to acts of selfless giving, fervent prayer, and an unconditional love to earn him the distinguished title – Beloved Father, Grandfather, and Friend.
Jackie and Ann were married on September 1, 1962, and celebrated 49 years together. From their blessed union was born four children, Jan P. (Anthony) Fort, Jack S. (Kim) Powers, Jr., Richard L. (Shelley) Powers, and Leigh-Taylor P. (Jason) Boan; eight grandchildren, Elizabeth Fort, Andie Powers, Jackson Powers, Ansley Powers, Zachary Powers, Will Powers, Presleigh Boan, and Ellerby Boan; three brothers, Rev. David W. (Lee Dean) Cox, Robert E. (Myrlee) Powers Sr., and Rev. Dan P. (Bunny) Powers; two sisters, Faye P. (Charlie) Greco and Margaret P. Cameron; a number of nieces and nephews; and a special extended family including Susie and Danny Venters, and Jennifer V. Tanner.
He was predeceased by his parents; four brothers, Rewis Cox, Ellridge Cox, Rev. Bernard Cox, and David Powers; and two sisters, Miriam Thomas and Cleonis Cox Benton.
A Going Home Celebration was held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, January 29, 2012, at the Screven Baptist Church.
Interment followed in the Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens, directed by the Georgetown Chapel of McKenzie Funeral Home.
Visitation was from 7 to 9 p.m. on Saturday evening, January 28, 2012, at Screven Baptist Church.

Earl Wragg
Earl Wragg, 69, of Georgetown, S.C., died Wednesday, January 25, 2012, in Georgetown.
Funeral services for Mr. Wragg will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, January 31, 2012, at Wilds Courtyard Chapel with burial following in the Morning Glory Cemetery.
Public viewing will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. on Monday evening, January 30, 2012, at Wilds Courtyard Chapel.
Mrs. Wragg was born on May 27, 1942, in Georgetown, S.C. to Robert Wragg and Mrs. Eloise Kinloch Wragg.
He attended Georgetown County public schools and worked as a groundskeeper.
His survivors include his wife, Mary Louise Wragg of Georgetown; six sons, Tyrone Wragg, Earl Wragg, Jr., Darrell Wragg, Christopher Wragg, Sam Woods and Mark King, all of Georgetown; two daughters, Karen Wragg and Sharon King of Georgetown; and his father, Robert Wragg of Georgetown.
