Mary Graham

Mary Glass Graham, 85, widow of John C. Graham died Tuesday, February 15, 2011 at Tidelands Community Hospice House.
Born on February 27, 1925 in Andrews, she was a daughter of the late Robert H. Glass and the late Victoria Richardson Glass.
Survivors include six children, Charlie Graham (Joyce), Cheryl Martin, Janice Smith, Jeffrey Graham (Yvonne), Gerry Graham (Vona Dean) and Garrett Graham (Cathy) all of Andrews; 12 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 19, 2011 in the Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery with the Rev. David Richardson officiating.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Graham Funeral Home.

Harold Grant

Harold M. Grant died on February 14, 2011 at Hospice and Palliative Care of Cabarrus County, North Carolina.  Funeral Services will be held at 11am on Monday at Greater St. Stephen A.M.E. Church conducted by Rev. Carl Anderson, Sr.
Burial will follow at the church's cemetery.
Visitation will take place on Sunday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Wilds Courtyard Chapel.
Mr. Grant was born on July 18, 1950 in Georgetown, South Carolina, a son of Rebecca Theresa Grant.  He attended the public schools of Georgetown County and graduated from Howard High School.  After having moved to New York, he furthered his education at Manhattan College and received the Bachelor of Science Degree.
He retired from Consolidated Edison, Inc of New York where he worked as Perfomance Specialist Manager and moved to Concorde, North Carolina.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Elizabeth Castro Grant of Concord, NC; two daughters, Isabella Grant White (and her husband, Kevin), and Rebecca Theresa Grant, of Long Island, New York; three brothers, Larry Grant, Philadelphia, PA, Daniel Grant, Landover, MD and Anthony Grant of Seattle, WA; two grandchildren, Trinity and Jasmine.
Funeral service arrangements are entrusted to Wilds Funeral Home.

O'Neil Green

Mr. O'Neil "Sub" Green, 55, of Andrews, SC, departed this life on Sunday, February 13, 2011.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday at Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church in Andrews with Rev. Dr. Eddie Gamble, Jr., officiating.
Burial follows in St. James Cemetery, Hemingway, SC under the direction of McKnight-Fraser Funeral Homes.

Mr. Green, son of the late Trannie Mae and Needham Green, Sr., was born September 15, 1955 in Georgetown, South Carolina.
He attended Georgetown County Schools, he served in the U S Army and in Vietnam, he was employed at Wal-Mart, Georgetown, SC.
He was a member of Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church.
Survivors are his wife, Mildred Green, Andrews, SC; four daughters, Helena Green, Andrea Green, Andrian Green of Andrews, SC and Trinnie Mae Singletary, Colorado Springs, CO; two sons, Kendrick Cain and O'Neil Green, Jr. of Andrews, SC; three brothers, Tommy Lee Green, Needham Green, Jr. and Freddie Lee Gamble; nine sisters, Pearlie Heyward, Carolina Cokley, Juanita McGee, Lillie Wallace, Florence Bloodworth, Louise Spearman, Joan Green, Elizabeth Green and Betty Gamble; and 14 grandchildren.

Queen Harris

Mrs. Queen Esther Harris, 76, 121 Neighbor Drive in the Sampit Community, Georgetown, SC, departed this life on Thursday, February 10, 2011.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Light House of Jesus Christ with Bishop Floyd Knowlin, officiating.
Burial follows in the Light House Memorial Gardens, under the directions of McKnight-Fraser Funeral Homes.

 Mrs. Harris was born February 2, 1935 in Granville County, NC to the late Luther and Esther Thorpe.
She attended Granville County School System, she was a member of Light House of Jesus Christ.
Survivors are her adopted son and caretaker, Bishop Floyd Knowlin, Georgetown, SC; three sisters, Irene Peace, Annie Allen Shirley A. Wimbush of Baltimore, MD; two brothers, Charlie Thorpe, Philadephia, PA and James Thorpe of Kentucky.

Catherine Lawrence

Catherine Lawrence, 92, died Thursday, February 10, 2011 at Georgetown Memorial Hospital.   Funeral services  will be held  2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 18, 2011 at Nazareth A.M.E. Church.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery. 
Mrs. Lawrence was born on October 1, 1918 in Georgetown, SC to Joe Brown,  Sr. and Mrs. Roddie Ann Brown.
She attended Georgetown County Public Schools and was a member of Nazareth AME Church.
At Nazareth, she worked diligently in her service with the following organizations: Senior Choir, Missionary President, Stewardess Board, Pastor Aid Board and as Assistant Class Leader of Class #9.
Her community affiliations included membership with the Eastern Star-Bright Morning Star Lodge, Chapter 356.
She is survived by five sons:  Ezekiel Lawrence, Jr. of Charleston, SC, Devain Lang, William McCray, Tyrone Lawrence and Shawn Lawrence all of Georgetown, SC; her daughter, Brenda Lawrence Scott of Hemingway, SC; and her brother, Willie Brown of Brooklyn, NY; fifteen grandchildren; twenty-one great grandchildren.

Jessie Miller

Mrs. Jessie Lee Miller, 104, of Sumter, widow of Steward Daniel Miller, died Wednesday, February 16, 2011, at NHC Healthcare of Sumter.
Mrs. Miller was born on January 11, 1907 in Murrells Inlet, a daughter of the late Willis Sims Lee and Florence Berta Patrick Lee.
She moved to Georgetown as a young girl, was educated in the schools there, and received a Secretarial degree from Rice Business College.
Mrs. Miller was a founder and charter member of Georgetown’s Screven Baptist Church, which was organized in her home in October of 1949.
She worked for the SC Baptist Training Union Department for 50 years, was on the Executive Board of the WMU of the SC Baptist Convention, and taught Sunday school in various churches for over 50 years.
Mrs. Miller was active in many Garden Clubs in Georgetown, Hartsville and Sumter.
At the time of her death, Mrs. Miller was the oldest member of Alice Drive Baptist Church in Sumter and a resident of NHC Healthcare in Sumter.
She was a devoted wife, mother and community leader and will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
The family would like to thank the CNA’s, nurses and the staff of NHC Healthcare for their love, support and wonderful care over the last ten years.
Surviving are two daughters, Mary Anne Matthews (Bobby) of Sumter and Margaret Lanier (Lee) of Hartsville; a daughter-in-law, Daisy Miller of Charlotte, NC; nine grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Miller was predeceased by a son, S. Dan Miller.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. on Friday morning, February 18, 2011, at Elmwood Cemetery in Georgetown.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. on Thursday afternoon, February 17, 2011, at Alice Drive Baptist Church in Sumter, as well as immediately following the graveside service in Georgetown.
