Albert Chavis
Albert “Sonny Boy” Chavis, 74, husband of Ethel Freeman Chavis of Georgetown, passed away Sunday morning, December 13, 2009, at Georgetown Memorial Hospital. He was born the son of Walter Lucis Chavis and Carolyn Lambert Chavis on September 11, 1935. He was a retired employee of Denton Ship Yard of Charleston. Surviving in addition to his wife are three sons, Edward, David, and Albert Jr.; two daughters, Diane and Lou Ann; 16 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and one brother, Junior. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday morning, December 16, 2009, at the Sampit Pentecostal Holiness Church. Burial will follow in the Sampit Cemetery, directed by the Georgetown Chapel of McKenzie Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday evening, December 15, 2009, at the McKenzie’s Georgetown Chapel. McKenzie Funeral Home is honored to serve the Chavis family. Olin Gibson
Olin Fred Gibson, 89, of Georgetown, widower of Lila Norton Gibson, died Monday December 14, 2009 at Georgetown Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held Friday, December 18, 2009 at 11 a.m. in First Baptist Church of Georgetown. Officiating will be Dr. Ted Sherrill. Burial, directed by Graham Funeral Home, will follow in Rose Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. He was born August 22, 1920 in Georgetown County, a son of the late Richard Raleigh Gibson and the late Gertrude Fenters Gibson. Mr. Gibson was a paper machine superintendent at International Paper, retiring with 40 years of service. He was a former deacon, Sunday School teacher, Sunday School secretary and member of the Young as Ever Group at First Baptist Church. Mr. Gibson was a founding board member of both Georgetown Memorial Hospital and Georgetown Kraft Credit Union. In addition to church activities, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling, and spending time with family and friends. Surviving are one son, Frederick Michael Gibson and his wife Sherry of Georgetown; one grandson, Michael Chad Gibson and his wife Elizabeth of Georgetown; and two great-grandchildren, Brooks and Christopher Gibson. In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Gibson was predeceased by a daughter, Patricia “Pat” Gibson; a sister, Bertha Pusey; two brothers, Richard L. “Roy” Gibson, Sr. and T.J. Gibson. Mattie Moultrie Keith, 94, of Georgetown, SC, died on Monday, December 14, 2009 in Georgetown, SC. Funeral services for Mrs. Keith will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, December 17, 2009 at Bethel AME Church, Georgetown, SC. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mrs. Keith was born October 19, 1915 in Georgetown, SC to Morris Moultrie and Mrs. Anna Rebecca Washington Moultrie. She attended Georgetown County Public Schools and Allen University in Columbia, SC. Mrs. Keith was a member of Bethel AME Church where she sang with the Excelsior Choir. Her community affiliations included membership with the New Hope Chapter No. 72 of the United Order of Tents. She was a retired school teacher. Mrs. Keith is survived by her children: Johnathan Moultrie, Fred Keith and Mrs. Albertha Brooks all of Georgetown, SC. Family visitation will be held from 6-7 p.m. on Wednesday evening, December 16, 2009 at Wilds Courtyard Chapel. Funeral service arrangements are entrusted and directed by Wilds Funeral Home, LLC.
Theodore Thomas
Theodore McLeod Thomas, 79, of Georgetown, SC, died on Sunday, December 13, 2009 in Irmo, South Carolina. Funeral services for Mr. Thomas will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, December 18, 2009 at Bethesda Missionary Baptist Church. Mr. Thomas was born May 1, 1930 in Florence, SC to Nathanie P. Thomas and Mrs. Frances Greene Thomas. He was a graduate of Howard High School, Georgetown, SC. Mr. Thomas was a US Army & Navy Veteran and was a retired mail clerk at International Paper Company. Mr. Thomas is survived by his children, Terry Thomas and Valerie Thomas of Georgetown, SC, Theodore Thomas Jr. of Baltimore, MD and Antoinette Thomas of New York, NY; his sister, Thelma Campbell of Chambersburg, PA; and a step-brother, William “Hobo” Sanders of Georgetown, SC Viewing will be held from 11 a.m. on Friday, December 18, 2009 in the sanctuary of Bethesda Missionary Baptist Church until the time of service. Funeral service arrangements are entrusted and directed by Wilds Funeral Home.
