Barbara J. Almony

Barbara Joan Almony, 73, of Surfside Beach, died Monday, Sept. 1, 2008 at Waccamaw Community Hospital.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 5, 2008 in Shepherd of the Sea Lutheran Church with Pastor Dick Webber officiating. The family received friends from 7 until 9 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 4, 2008 at Goldfinch Funeral Home, Beach Chapel. Sign a guestbook at goldfinchfuneralhome.com.

Mrs. Almony was born in Camden, N.J., a daughter of the late Percy and Gladys Stubbs. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Girl Scouts of America.

Surviving are: her husband of 51 years, John Almony of Surfside Beach; one daughter, Dawn Sapio of Surfside Beach; one brother, William Stubbs of Mullica Hill, N.J.; one sister, Karen Nitzky of Surfside Beach; and nephew, David Nitzky of Surfside Beach.

Rose P. Cruz

Rose Pugliese Cruz, 94, of Murrells Inlet, died Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2008.

Lawrence E. Eaddy

Lawrence Edward Eaddy of Johnsonville died Monday, Sept. 1, 2008 at Kingstree Memorial Hospital in Kingstree.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, 2008 at Nesmith-Pinckney Chapel in Hemingway, with Pastor Jacquiline Harris officiating. Interment will follow in the St. Luke Cemetery, under the direction of Nesmith-Pinckney Funeral Home of Hemingway.

Mr. Eaddy was born in Florence County, a son of Eunice Eaddy and the late Horace Eaddy. He was educated in the public schools of Williamsburg County. He was a member of Matthew Hill Holiness Church. He was employed at Wellman, Inc.

Survivors include: his wife, Sara Elizabetha Deas Eaddy of Johnsonville; four daughters, Leslie, Serena and Eunice Eaddy, all of Johnsonville, and Lareshia Williams of Mullins; and his mother of the home.

Clarena Godbolt

Clarena Godbolt, 70, of Conway, died Friday, Aug. 29, 2008 at Conway Manor in Conway.

Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, 2008 at Pine Island Cemetery in Myrtle Beach, under the direction of Wilds Funeral Home of Georgetown.

Mrs. Godbolt was born March 27, 1938 at Pawleys Island, a daughter of the late Peter Myers and Elizabeth Ponteau Myers. She attended Howard High School in Georgetown. She was a retired laundress.

Survivors include: her son, Nathanaiel Godbolt of Philadelphia, Penn.; her siblings, Deacon Weldon Myers of Hampton, Va., Clarence Myers of Myrtle Beach and Mary Horton of Philadelphia.

Carl A. Merritt Jr.

Carl A. "Bubba" Merritt Jr., 64, of Georgetown, died Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2008 in Georgetown Memorial Hospital.

Memorial funeral services will be held Friday, Sept. 5, 2008 at 11 a.m. in Graham Funeral Home Chapel.

He was born Aug. 23, 1944 in Georgetown County, a son of the late Carl Andrew Merritt Sr. and the late Hazel Duncan Merritt.

Mr. Merritt was an employee with International Paper Co. with 44 years of service. He was a graduate of Winyah High School and a member of Winyah Masonic Lodge No. 40 in Georgetown and a U. S. Army Veteran.

Surviving are: children, Duncan T. Merritt (Kara) of Andrews, Candace M. Johnson (Robert) of Collierville, Tenn., Carla M. Mallinson (Roger) of Murrells Inlet, Tammy B. Martin (Devin) of Georgetown and Sheryl B. Walker (James) of Pawleys Island; grandchildren, Griffith T. Johnson, Andrew J. Merritt, Forrest D. Martin, Rivers A. Martin, Brandon A. Carter, Elizabeth B. Walker and Bryson J. Walker; sisters, Becky M. Cox (Robert) of Anderson and Kathy M. Goodwin (Paul) of Georgetown; his former wife Jeannie T. Merritt of Georgetown and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a brother, J. Larry Merritt.

Saunder C. Nesbitt

Saunder Coker Nesbitt, 59, died Thursday, Sept. 4, 2008 at her home.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Graham Funeral Home.

Lori Ann Sciortino

Lori Ann Sciortino, 54, of Surfside Beach, died Monday, Sept. 1, 2008.

Mrs. Sciortino attended Endicott College in Boston and Rochester School of Nursing.

She was a nurse, photographer and breeder of ragdoll kittens.

Survivors include: her children, Michael, Danielle (Eric Ferris) and Alyssa Sciortino; and grandson, Jayden; her parents, Jim and Corrine Hogan of Murrells Inlet; grandmother, Rose M. Griffith; three sisters, Linda Hogan (Bill) from Richmond, Va., Teresa Marshfield (Martin) from Syracuse, N.Y., and Deborah Lovoli (Lou) from Victor, N.Y.; two brothers, Michael Hogan (Julie) from Penfield, N.Y. and David Hogan (Sally) from Murrells Inlet; and many nieces and nephews.

Betty M. Stone

Betty M. Stone, 64, of Florence, widow of Olin L. Stone, of Timmonsville and Florence, died Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2008 at Tidelands Community Hospice House in Georgetown.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 5, 2008 in Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home. Burial will follow in St. John Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery, Hwy. 378 near Hannah.

She was born Dec. 25, 1943 and attended schools in Lake City. After her marriage to Mr. Stone in November 1960, she moved to Florence, and later to the Cusack Crossroads area of Florence County. She worked in the bridal and formal wear business and was the owner of the Bridal Hut of Florence for 25 years. Mrs. Stone attended and served in a number of Baptist churches in the area, including Rehoboth, Florence Baptist Temple, Elim Bible Church and West Florence Baptist. At the time of her passing she was a member of Southside Baptist Church in Florence.

She was preceded in death by her parents, David and Cora McCutcheon; one brother, William; and a sister, Novaline.

Surviving are: a daughter, Dawna Stone of Myrtle Beach; and two sons, Samuel Stone (Tracy) of Columbus, Ga., and Danny Stone (Cheryl) of Georgetown; seven grandchildren; brothers, Robert McCutcheon (Vicki) of Morehead City, N.C., David McCutcheon of Lake City, Harry McCutcheon (Judy) of Jacksonville, Fla., and Lexington McCutcheon of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Ronal A. Worley

Ronal Alexander Worley, 70, of Murrells Inlet, died Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2008.

Memorial services will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, 2008, with visitation one hour prior to the service, at Goldfinch Funeral Home, Beach Chapel. Pastor Micah Lane will be officiating. Sign a guestbook at goldfinchfuneralhome.com.

Mr. Worley was the son of Garnet and the late Garrett Layne. He was preceded in death by one brother, Frankie Worley; and one sister, Carolyn Layne.

Surviving are: his wife, Sammy; two sons, Alex Worley of Murrells Inlet and Justin Worley of Charleston, W.Va.; two brothers, Harold Layne and Gary Layne; and grandchildren, Chelsea and Torey Worley of Kentucky.

Peggy A. Watkins

Peggy A. Watkins, 68, of Mullins, died Sunday, Aug. 31, 2008.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2008 in the Chapel of Meares Funeral Home of Mullins. Burial followed in Cedardale Cemetery, Mullins. Sign a guestbook at www.mearesfh.com.

She was the daughter of the late John Edward Lequire and Edith Inez Cooper. Mrs. Watkins was of the Christian faith, and was a homemaker.

She is survived by: her husband, James Walter Watkins; one son, James Ronald "Ron" Watkins (Ginger) of Murrells Inlet; two daughters, Lisa Whitesides Bolwerk (Daniel) of Mullins and Penny Watkins Allen (Daniel) of Rains; one brother, the Rev. John Thomas "Tommy" Lequire (Nancy) of Tennessee; and two sisters, Betty Brown and Janet Tipton of Tennessee. She is also survived by four grandchildren, James Russell "Russ" Watkins of Myrtle Beach, Jennifer Ryan Watkins of Pawleys Island, Ryan Wesley Whitesides of Mullins, and Gage Daniel "Mannie" Allen of Rains.
