Anthony Allocco Sr.

Anthony John Allocco, Sr., 86, of Murrells Inlet, formerly of Chatham, N.J., died Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2008 at Waccamaw Community Hospital.

Funeral Mass was celebrated at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 13, 2008 in St. Michael Catholic Church with Father Ray Carlo officiating.

Mr. Allocco was born in Madison, N.J., a son of the late Samuel and Mary Allocco. He was a U.S. Army World War II veteran. Mr. Allocco was also member of St. Michael Catholic Church. He was preceded in death by his brother, Pat.

Surviving are: his wife, Margaret Allocco of Murrells Inlet; three sons, Anthony Skip Allocco Jr. of Connecticut, Michael Allocco of Texas and Stephen Allocco of Florida; two daughters, Mary Jean Allocco of N.J. and Margaret Ewing of Florida; one brother, Nicholas Allocco of N.J.; one sister, Madeline Avallone of N.J.; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Michael Catholic Church Building Fund, 542 Cypress Ave., Murrells Inlet, SC 29576.

Elizabeth M. Bailey

Elizabeth Moss Bailey, 98, of Murrells Inlet died Monday, Sept. 8, 2008, at National Healthcare of Garden City.

Services were held at 4 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 11, 2008 in St. Pauls Waccamaw United Methodist Church. Memorial services will also be held in Waleska United Methodist Church, 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 13, 2008, with interment following in Briarpatch Cemetery, Waleska, Ga.

Born July 23, 1910, in Cherokee County, Ga., she was the daughter of the late Theodore P. and Eltha Stone Moss. She grew up and was educated in the schools in Waleska, Ga. She graduated from Reinhardt College in 1928, where she was elected Miss Reinhardt, from LaGrange College in 1930, and received a Master's in education degree from the University of Georgia in 1945.

Her teaching career began in Horry County in 1930 at Floyds High School. Mrs. Bailey was principal of Waleska Elementary School and the first curriculum director for Cherokee County Schools. She was a curriculum director for the Georgia State Department of Education. Mrs. Bailey was Dean of Women and taught English at Reinhardt College where she was named Dean Emeritus.

Mrs. Bailey received the John Wesley Award in 2000-2001 from Reinhardt College where a scholarship was established in her honor. The Elizabeth Moss Bailey Faculty Mentor Award at Reinhardt was established in her honor. She is on the Wall of Outstanding Alumni from LaGrange College.

Mrs. Bailey was a lifelong member of Waleska United Methodist Church where she served in many capacities. She was a member of the United Methodist Women and the Elizabeth Moss Bailey Circle was named in her honor.

After moving to Pawleys Island in 1997 to be with her daughter, she became an associate member of St. Pauls Waccamaw United Methodist Church and the Friendship Sunday School Class. She was in church every Sunday until 2007, singing all the hymns from memory. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma. Mrs. Bailey was an excellent quilter and enjoyed making and restoring quilts for friends and relatives.

Surviving are: her daughter, Betty Moss Bailey McGuirt (The Rev. Milton L. McGuirt) of Pawleys Island; granddaughter, Beth Stuart (John) of Lexington; grandson, Bobby McGuirt of Rock Hill; and great-grandchildren, Caroline Stuart and Jack Stuart of Lexington.

Christopher Belfatto

Christopher John Belfatto, 36, of Pawleys Island, died Thursday, Sept. 11, 2008.

Arrangements will be announced by Goldfinch Funeral Home, Litchfield-Pawleys Island Chapel.

Ivan R. Canaday

Ivan Russell Canaday, 68, of Garden City Beach, formerly of Salem, N.J., died Saturday, Sept. 6, 2008, at his residence.

Funeral services for Mr. Canaday will be private.

Mr. Canaday was born in Beckley, W.Va., a son of the late Obal and Lettie Canaday. He was raised in Salem, N.J., until retiring from DuPont Chambers Works, then moving to Myrtle Beach in 1992. Mr. Canaday was a graduate of Salem High School Class of 1958. He immediately joined the Army and served as a paratrooper until 1961. He was a member of the Elks Lodge, American Legion, and Veterans of Foreign Wars, all in Murrells Inlet. Mr. Canaday was also a member of the Moose Lodge in Surfside Beach.

Survivors include: his wife of 37 years, Judith Baldwin Canaday; son, Robert F. Breslin (Dorothy) of N.J.; one daughter, Teri Dilks (James) of N.J.; two grandchildren, Daniel R. Breslin and Andrew R. Breslin of N.J.; three sisters, Janice Fithian and Shirley Foster of N.J., and Kay Ayars of N.C.

Robert J. Cepluch

Robert J. Cepluch, 87, of Pawleys Island died Sunday, Sept. 7, 2008 at Waccamaw Community Hospital.

Born April 25, 1921 in Hamilton, Ohio, he was a son of the late Robert and Florence Brendel Cepluch. Mr. Cepluch served as a chief machinist mate in the U.S Navy during World War II. He spent 21 years with Hartford Steam and Boiler Inspection and Insurance Company. He then worked for AAB-Combustion Engineering, Inc., of Stamford, Conn. and retired as director of Welding Engineering and Quality Assurance. He was active in the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Committee for 35 years, and received several awards including the J. Hall Taylor medal in 1981. He also headed his own consulting firm for a number of years. Mr. Cepluch was a Catholic, and attended Precious Blood of Christ Catholic Church. He was a former member of the Litchfield Catholic Church, and the Avon Catholic Church in Conn.

Survivors include: two brothers, Jack and Don; a sister-in-law, Rosalie Oetzel; and brother-in-law Frank Faber.

Nellie J. Dorion

Nellie Joseph Dorion, 91, of Beaufort and a former resident of Georgetown and widow of Lawrence Cecil Dorion, died Sunday, Sept. 14, 2008, in Beaufort Memorial Hospital.

The Funeral Mass will be at 12 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2008, at St. Mary Our Lady of Ransom Catholic Church in Georgetown. Inurnment will follow in Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens in Georgetown.

There will be a wake service at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2008 at the Georgetown Chapel of Mayer Funeral Home followed by visitation until 7:30 p.m.

Henry Durant

Henry Durant of Deerfield, Fla., died Thursday, Sept. 11, 2008 at Deerfield Hospital.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Nesmith-Pinckney Funeral Home of Hemingway.

Bertha Linen

Evangelist Bertha Linen, 81, of the Dunbar community of Georgetown, died Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2008 at Georgetown Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2008, at Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church. Burial, directed by Linen-Knox Funeral Home, will follow in the church cemetery.

Evangelist Linen was born Jan. 3, 1927, in Georgetown County, a daughter of Willie Lance and Anniebell Hasbin. She attended Georgetown County schools and was a member of Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church.

She was the wife of the late Rufus Linen.

Survivors include: five daughters, Dorothy Cade and Brenda Linen-Paulin, both of New York, N.Y., Rosabelle Linen of Queens, N.Y., Lilly Linen of Bronx, N.Y. and Marie Murden-Hardsom of Atlanta, Ga.; and two sons, Samson Linen and Robert Linen, both of Bronx, N.Y.

Clark K. Poston

Clark Kent Poston, 52, of Johnsonville, died Thursday, Sept. 11, 2008, in a Florence hospital.

Graveside services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 14, 2008 in Mt. Elon Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery, directed by Morris Funeral Home.

Mr. Poston was born in Pamplico, a son of the late Thomas Eli and Margaret Burgess Poston.

He was retired from J&J Poole of Myrtle Beach, was a member of Mt. Elon Free Will Baptist Church in Pamplico and was a graduate of Hannah-Pamplico High School.

Surviving are: his wife, Mary Cribb Poston of the home; a daughter, Mary Ann Poston of the home; a brother, Thomas Henry Poston of Beaufort; a sister, Ann Jordan (Buddy) of Timmonsville; daughter-in-law, Amber Poston; nieces, Danielle Wallace and Renada Poston; and a nephew, J.W. Poston.

Mr. Poston was predeceased by two sons, Danny Ray Poston and Gennis Odell Poston; and a brother, Steve Allen Poston.

Wanda G. Rogers

Wanda Gail Rogers, 52, of Murrells Inlet, died Thursday, Sept. 11, 2008 at her residence.

Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 13, 2008 at Goldfinch Funeral Home, Beach Chapel, with Pastor David Pohto officiating. Sign a guestbook at goldfinchfuneralhome.com.

Miss Rogers was born in Florence, a daughter of the late Tommy and Bernice Rogers. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Surfside Beach.

Surviving are: a brother, Tommy Lee Rogers of Surfside Beach; a sister, Linda Honeycutt of Purlear, N.C.; and several nieces and nephews.

John M. Serafin

John Michael Serafin, 85, of Pawleys Island, died Thursday, Sept. 4, 2008, at Lakes at Litchfield.

A funeral Mass was celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2008, at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church.

Lee Funeral Home & Crematory of Little River/N. Myrtle Beach is serving the family.

Born Jan. 6, 1923, in Stamford, Conn., he was the son of the late Peter and Mary Ciejka Serafin.

Mr. Serafin is survived by his wife, Eugenia Hughes Serafin; one son, John J. Serafin; one daughter, Susan M. Soloman; two sisters, Katherine Hayes and Margie Hogan; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Joyce R. Small

Joyce Annette Rabon Small, 68, of Mullins, died Sunday, Sept. 7, 2008, at Marion County Medical Center.

Funeral services were at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2008 at Mullins-Marion Freewill Baptist Church, with her son, Preacher Teddy Rabon, and Preacher Neil Hinson officiating. Burial followed in Red Hill Memorial Gardens Cemetery, directed by Cox-Collins Funeral Home.

She was born July 9, 1940 in Marion County, a daughter of the late Hence and Nannie Dale Owens Bullard. Mrs. Small had worked at Marvel Lamp Co., Pilliod of Nichols, and Supreme Lighting Co. She was a member of Mullins-Marion Freewill Baptist Church.

Surviving are: her children, Terry Rabon (Deloris) of Corpus Christi, Texas, Tony Rabon of Mullins, Tammy Hardwick (Wally) of Mullins, and Teddy Rabon (Karen) of Georgetown; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; her stepchildren, Danny Small, Barry Small, Mitchell Small, Carol Sue Harrell, and Iris Bruce; seven step-grandchildren; two sisters, Wanda Graham (Michael) of Bayboro, and Nellie Rory (Joe) of Southern Pines, N.C..

Mrs. Small was predeceased by her first husband, Newie Rabon; her second husband, Jack Leverne Small; and a brother, Johnnie Hammonds.

Warren G. Waltz

Warren G. Waltz, 84, of Garden City Beach, formerly of Monroe, Mich., died Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2008 at Waccamaw Community Hospital.

He was born Nov. 12, 1923, in Monroe, Mich., the son of the late George and Mable Waltz. He retired to Myrtle Beach area in 1990, along with Jean, his wife of 57 years.

Jean Waltz preceded him in death in 2004. Two sons also preceded him in death, Steven Douglas Waltz and Roger David Waltz.

He is survived by one son, Dennis Waltz of Flat Rock, Mich.; and three daughters, Shanna Osborn of Surfside Beach, Polly Ann Waltz of Conway, and Becky LaPointe of Erie, Mich.; and a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
