Mary C. Atkins
Mary Chitwood Atkins, 83, of Conway, died Sunday, September 28, 2008.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, 2008 in Calvary Christian Church in Martinsville, Va.
Watson Funeral Services of Conway is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Atkins was born June 23, 1925 in Rocky Mount, Va., a daughter of the late Sam and Suzie Chitwood. She was a member of Calvary Christian Church in Martinsville, Va.
She was predeceased by one sister and eight brothers.
Survivors include: one daughter, Joyce Roden (Buddy) of Surfside Beach; two sons, William ''Bill'' Mason (Sue) and Wayne Atkins (Claudia) of Martinsville, Va.; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.

Harold Eaddy
Harold Eaddy, 64, of Georgetown died Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2008 at his home.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 3, 2008 in the Morris Funeral Home Chapel in Hemingway. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1 to 2 p.m. before the service.
Mr. Eaddy was born in Charleston, a son of the late Ives C. and Mildred Martin Eaddy. He was a U.S. Army paratrooper in the Vietnam War, and he attended Georgetown County schools.
Surviving are: his sisters, Gloria E. Owens (Gerald) of Hemingway and Sarah Giles (Gary) of Lexington, Kent.; and brothers, Butch Eaddy of Georgetown and Jimmy Eaddy of Hemingway.
Claudine H. Ford
Claudine Helms Ford, 83, of Murrells Inlet, died Monday, Sept. 29, 2008 at Waccamaw Community Hospital.
Graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2008 in Evergreen Cemetery, Charlotte, N.C., with Pastor Gerald Ramsey officiating.

Mrs. Ford was born in Monroe, N.C., the daughter of the late Lawrence and Guyness Helms. She was a member of Purcell Methodist Church in Charlotte, N.C., and was retired from Charlotte/Mecklenburg County schools.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harolee Ford Sr.; and her daughter, Tracie Ford Helms.
Surviving are: one son, Harolee Ford Jr. of Conway; two daughters, Veda Ford of Surfside Beach and Dina Ford of High Point, N.C.; two grandchildren, Mary Margaret Tourtellot of Raleigh, N.C. and Bentz Tourtellot of Greensboro, N.C.; two brothers, Gary Helms of Holden Beach, N.C. and Gus Helms of Charlotte, N.C.; and two sisters, Lorraine Helms of Charlotte, N.C. and Phoebe Jones of Myrtle Beach.

Leroy Greene
Leroy "Bucky" Greene, 61, of Andrews, died Friday, Sept. 26, 2008.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 3, 2008 at Piney Grove Baptist Church, with the Rev. Michael Cannon officiating.
Interment will follow in St. James Cemetery, under the direction of McKnight-Fraser Funeral Home.
Mr. Greene was born Nov. 22, 1946 in Andrews, a son of the late Needham and Tranny Shackleford Greene. He served two years in the U.S. Army and was a member of the state National Guard. He was a retired employee of Time Warner Cable Co.
Survivors include: his wife, Wanda Langley Greene of Andrews; four sons, Mayor Rodney Giles of Andrews, DeMarkus Langley of Greenville, Michael Greene of Fayetteville, N.C. and Leroy Greene Jr. of Charlotte, N.C.; 10 sisters, Florence Bloodworth, Louise Spearman, Joan Greene, Elizabeth of New York, Pearlie Heyward, Caroline Cokley, Juanita McGee, Lillie Wallace of Andrews, Michelle Maybank of Pawleys Island and Betty Gamble of Columbia; four brothers, Tommy Greene of Korea, O'Neil Greene and Needham Greene Jr. of Andrews and Freddie Gamble of Columbia; and eight grandchildren.
James M. Hagan Sr.
Lt. Col. James M. Hagan Sr., retired, 73, of Murrells Inlet, died Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2008 at his home.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 2, 2008 in Surfside United Methodist Church, with burial at 4 p.m. in Bush River Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Columbia. Mr. Hagan was born in Due West, March 18, 1935. He was raised in Greenwood, graduated from Greenwood High School in 1953, and graduated from the Citadel in 1957. He joined the U.S. Army that same year, and served two years in Vietnam, from 1967-1968, and 1969-1970, and retired from the military in 1977.
After retirement, he worked for the U.S. government in civil service, working a total of 35 years in federal service. Mr. Hagan was a member of the Surfside United Methodist Church.
He was also a member of the Moose Lodge No. 2351 in Murrells Inlet, the Elks Lodge No. 1771 in Myrtle Beach, as well as the American Legion No. 0178 in Murrells Inlet.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Ruth and Lawrence D. Hagan Sr. of Greenwood; sister, Marion Nichols of West Columbia; and his first wife, Mary Weldon Hagan of Columbia.
Survivors include: his wife, Marie Epps Hagan of Murrells Inlet; brother, Lawrence D. Hagan Jr. of Bennettsville; and children, James Martin Hagan Jr. of Seymour, Ind., Mary Elizabeth Griffin of West Columbia, Patricia Ann Kneece of Lexington, Ruth Ellen Hampton of Augusta, Ga., Rhonda Marie Smith of Columbia, Christopher Cornell Counts of Liberty, and Barry Dean Counts of Columbia; 13 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Callie D. Hinshaw
Callie D. Hinshaw, 84, of Murrells Inlet, died Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2008 at Waccamaw Community Hospital.
Memorial services were at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 27, 2008 in The Little Chapel at Murrells Inlet Presbyterian Church.

She was the daughter of the late Walter and Carrie Doster. Mrs. Hinshaw was born in Monroe, N.C., and lived in Charlotte, N.C. before moving to Murrells Inlet in 1986.
Mrs. Hinshaw was a member of Murrells Inlet Presbyterian Church and belonged to the afternoon circle.
She worked many years as a secretary/bookkeeper. Mrs. Hinshaw worked at Huntington Beach State Park as a parking fee attendant until she retired. Mrs. Hinshaw was a volunteer with Meals on Wheels.
She was predeceased by her husband of 61 years, Robert Hinshaw; three brothers; and one sister.
Surviving are: her daughter, Debbie Hinshaw of Murrells Inlet; two grandchildren, Tara Nutter of Louisville, Ky. and Cole Sisk of Lexington, Ky.; two great-grandchildren, Kallie Nutter and Bryson Sisk; and her niece, Quinn Hancock of Mt. Holly, N.C.

David S. Kennedy
David Scott Kennedy, 47, of Garden City Beach, died Thursday, Sept. 25, 2008 at his residence.

Walter D. Kies
Walter David Kies, 85, of Pawleys Island, formerly of Seaford, N.Y., and Boynton Beach, Fla., died Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2008 at his residence.

Mr. Kies was born in New York, N.Y., a son of the late John and Grace Kies. He was a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy and was a pilot in World War II. He was also chief of planning for the FAA.
He was preceded in death by his wife, the late Rosemary Kies.
Survivors include: his children, Jack Kies (Lorraine), JoAnne Finnegan, Walter Kies Jr. (Laureen), and Thomas Kies (Maryann); grandchildren, Kerry-Ann Leach, Jackie Orris, Kim Sacher, Nicole, Jennifer, Lindsay, Lauren, Thomas, Christopher, and Kevin Kies; and great-grandchildren, Zach and Jared Leach.

George S. Marlowe III
ADAN George Scott "Scottie" Marlowe III, 23, U.S. Navy, of Georgetown, died Monday, Sept. 29, 2008 in UF Shands Hospital in Jacksonville, Fla.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Oct. 4, 2008 at 11 a.m. in Prince George, Winyah, Episcopal Church in Georgetown. Officiating will be The Reverend Paul C. Fuener. Burial with full military honors will follow in the church cemetery.

Mr. Marlowe was born Nov. 8, 1984 in Georgetown, a son of George Scott Marlowe Jr. and Elizabeth Anne Lyne Marlowe.
He was a member of the HSL-46 Grandmasters helicopter squadron based in Mayport, Fla. He recently returned from a six-month deployment to the Arabian Gulf and Mediterranean Sea on the cruiser USS PHILIPPINE SEA where his primary duties were to ensure the daily readiness of and to perform required maintenance regarding any airframe discrepancy on two SH-60B helicopters that flew in support of the Global War on Terrorism on the front line.
While on deployment, he earned his wings when he qualified as an Enlisted Aviation Warfare Specialist, a rare honor and achievement for a sailor with such a short time in the Navy. ADAN stands for Aircraft Machinist's Mate, an E-3 rating.
He was a 2003 graduate of Georgetown High School and a member of Prince George, Winyah, Episcopal Church where he had served as a crucifer and was involved with the youth group.
Surviving are: his parents of Georgetown; his paternal grandparents, George Scott Marlowe Sr. and Amelia Morrison Marlowe of McClellanville; his paternal great-grandmother, Hilda Moore Marlowe of Leland, NC.; one brother, William Roper Marlowe of Georgetown; one sister, Ashley M. Moody (Will) of Pawleys Island; two uncles, Wade Marlowe (Vicki) of Georgetown and Ross Marlowe of McClellanville; and two cousins, Jacob Ross Marlowe and Grace Marlowe.

Mr. Matthews was born in Hemingway on Dec. 17, 1956, a son of Kenith Merldon Matthews and Joyce Ard Matthews. He grew up in Georgetown and was a graduate of Howard High School in 1974 and attended Horry-Georgetown Technical College. Mr. Matthews was an employee of Georgetown Steel and a member of Ringel Heights Baptist Church.
Mr. Matthews was predeceased by: a daughter, Keli Renee Matthews.
Surviving are: his wife, Ferol Teel Matthews of Pawleys Island; a son, Kenneth Merldon Matthews III (Tracy) of Georgetown; a daughter, Meredith M. Freeman (Les) of Quinby; his parents of Georgetown; five brothers, Pat Matthews (Rene), Rick Matthews (Ginger), Tony Matthews (Kathy), and Frank Matthews, all of Georgetown, and Billy Preston of Murrells Inlet; a sister, Charlene M. Jordan (Junior) of Georgetown; two grandchildren, Kenneth Merldon "Merle" Matthews IV of Georgetown and Alexander James Freeman of Quinby; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Allen Wayne Palmer, 35, of Myrtle Beach, died Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2008 at his home.

Brenda K. Pritchard
Brenda Kelly Pritchard, 63, of Ocean Isle Beach, N.C., died Saturday, Sept. 27, 2008 at her home.
A Celebration of Life was at 12 p.m. Monday, Sept. 29, 2008 in the Ocean Isle Chapel, with burial to follow in the Brunswick Memorial Gardens. Brunswick Funeral Service & Crematory of Shallotte, N.C. was in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Pritchard was born Sept. 19, 1945 in Raleigh, N.C. to the late Tom and Grace Kelly. In addition to her parents, she was also predeceased by her sister Lynda Kelly House.
She attended Garner High School and Campbell University. After her career with American Express Credit Corporation she retired to Ocean Isle Beach, N.C.
Survivors include: her husband, Curtiss A. Pritchard; her daughter, Lisa Phillips Hyatt (Freddie) of Murrells Inlet; two sons, Curt Pritchard Jr. (Lynn) of Dunn, N.C., and Cale Pritchard (Heather) of Galax, Va.; three sisters, Sue Kelly Gill of Garner, N.C., and Retha Kelly Lineberger and Melanie Kelly Johnson, both of Raleigh, N.C.; four grandchildren, Grace Kelly Hyatt, James Sublatt, Kimberly Sublatt, and Caitlynn Pritchard.

Wallace D. Rogers

Wallace Dale "Wally" Rogers, 76, formerly of Hemingway, died Sunday, Sept. 28, 2008 at his home in Old Town, Fla.
In his memory, a celebration of his life will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 4, 2008 at his home.
Mr. Rogers was born in Loris on May 27, 1932. He served in the United States Navy, and is a veteran of the Korean War, where he was stationed in San Diego, Calif. He served as a police officer for the North Myrtle Beach Police Department and later with the Georgetown Police Department. After his retirement with the Georgetown Police Department, he moved to Florida and worked for McLane Sun East Inc.., and later retired.
Survivors include: his wife, Shirley Jean Hosenfeld Rogers and his children: Michael Rogers (Suzy) of Covina, Calif., Virginia Rogers Reel (Chris) of Alta Loma, Calif., Laurel Rogers Howard of Scranton, Penn., Dale Rogers of South Carolina and Shannon Rogers of South Carolina; step-children, Tim Hosenfeld (Wendy) of Hemingway, Mike Hosenfeld (Trina) of Stafford, Va., Darneen Gorham (Mike) of Plant City, Fla., and Fred Hosenfeld (Denise) of Goose Creek.
In addition, he is survived by his brother John Rogers of Twenty-Nine Palms, Calif., and his sister, Ann Helm (Harold) of St. Charles, Ill., along with 17 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
