Lula Bartell
Lula Bartell, 65, of Hemingway, died Thursday, July 24, 2008, at Williamsburg Regional Medical Center in Kingstree.

John E. Cook
John E. "Cookie" Cook, 73, of Pawleys Island, died Thursday, July 24, 2008.
Memorial services will be Wednesday, July 30, 2008, at 11 a.m. at Goldfinch Funeral Home, Litchfield-Pawleys Chapel.
Mr. Cook was born in 1935 in Carthage, N.Y. He was a former resident of Trenton, N.J., and Mercerville, N.J. He served as a U.S. Marine in the Korean War. Following his service, he began a 37-and-a-half-year career with General Motors, Fisher Body Plant. Upon his retirement, he and his wife of 52 years, Sheila, moved first to Myrtle Beach and then to Pawleys Island.
Surviving are his wife; three daughters, Renee Siderio (John) of Alabama, Dina Carney of Lawrenceville, N.J., and Sherry McLaughlin (Kenneth) of Port Orange, Fla.; six grandchildren, Jennifer Konnight of Redondo Beach, Calif., Chelsie Carney of New Castle, Del., Stone Carney of Lawrenceville and Melissa Jones, Kyle McLaughlin and Craig McLaughlin, all of Port Orange; and a great-granddaughter, Alexis Jones of Port Orange.

Fred Geathers, 89, of Georgetown, died Thursday, July 24, 2008, at Prince George Healthcare Center.

Mildred Russell Geddie, 91, of Garden City Beach, died Saturday, July 19, 2008.

John Howard
John Howard, 81, of Pawleys Island, died Tuesday, July 22, 2008, in Newark, N.J.
Funeral services will be Monday, July 28, 2008, at 3 p.m. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Pawleys Island. Viewing begins at 11 a.m. Monday and lasts until services begin at 3 p.m.
Mr. Howard was born Feb. 24, 1927, in Charleston, a son of the late Dan Howard and Emma Wilson Howard. He was a retired cook at Heritage Penguin in New York, N.Y., and owned Howard's Catering. He attended Robert Smalls High School in Beaufort.
Surviving are his wife, Grace Kelly Howard of Pawleys Island; a daughter, Vanessa Howard of Jersey City, N.Y.; two sons, Calvin Howard of Laurel, Md., and Daniel Curtis Howard of Macon, Ga.; a brother, Joe Waker of McClellanville; and two sisters, Rebecca Bowens of Brockton, Mass., and Edith Hunter of Philadelphia, Pa.
Katherine Johnson
Katherine Bellamy Johnson, 90, of Myrtle Beach, died Sunday, July 20, 2008, at Myrtle Beach Estates.
Funeral service were Sunday, July 27, 2008, at 3 p.m. at First United Methodist Church of Myrtle Beach with the Revs. Ken Timmerman and Scarlet Tanner-Hester officiating. McMillan-Small Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Johnson was born Sept. 22, 1917, in Mecklenburg County, N.C., a daughter of the late William "Pop" and Ona Putnam Healan. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, and she was a homemaker.
She was predeceased by her first husband, HV Bellamy; her second husband, Willard Johnson; and a granddaughter, Katherine Elizabeth Bellamy.
Surviving are two sons, HV "Skeets" Bellamy Jr. (Sandy) of Murrells Inlet and William F. "Bill" Bellamy (Rosalie) of Myrtle Beach; a stepdaughter, Judy Clifton of Columbia; a stepson, David Howser (Polly) of Columbia; six grandchildren, Howell Bellamy III (Paige), Frank Hall (Fannie) and Debra Linke (Lon), all of Murrells Inlet, and Macon Davis (Johnny) of Beaufort, Merritt Jordan (KJ) of Surfside Beach and Susan Wright (Dwayne) of Myrtle Beach; six stepgrandchildren, Genny Elder (Ralph) of Danville, Va., and Brian Clifton (Kelli) and David Howser (Natalie), both of Columbia, Nan Oudet (Severin) of Denver, Colo., Jim Howser (Ashley) of Atlanta, Ga., and Rebecca Howser of Columbia; a sister, Ona Horne of Atlanta; and 18 great-grandchildren.

Marguerite Lane
Marguerite Floyd Lane, 88, of Pawleys Island, widow of Rembert Reed Lane, died Friday, July 25, 2008, at the Lakes at Litchfield.
Funeral services were held Sunday, July 27, 2008, at 3 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church in Conway with the Rev. Carl Hunsucker officiating. Burial, directed by Goldfinch Funeral Home, Conway Chapel, followed in Lakeside Cemetery.
Mrs. Lane was born in Sumter, a daughter of the late Emory Lee and Glenn Whaley Floyd. She was a charter member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Conway, where she served on many committees. She was a member of the Ladies Sunday School Class and United Methodist Women. Prior to retirement, she worked many years at Peoples Savings and Loan Association and retired as senior vice president. After retirement, she volunteered at Trinity United Methodist Church. Mrs. Lane was a Laubach Literacy Tutor for the South Carolina Adult Education Association for over 10 years.
She was predeceased by a brother, Whaley Floyd, and a sister, Eleanor Graham.
Surviving are a daughter, Rosalind Barker (Robert "Bob") of Pawleys Island; a grandson, R. Reed Barker (Audra) of Pawleys Island; two brothers, John Floyd of Florence and James L. Floyd of Galivants Ferry; his caregiver, Nell Reed of Georgetown; and his special friend, Net B. Long of Conway.

Levi Norwood Sr.
Levi Norwood Sr., 84, of Georgetown, died Sunday, July 20, 2008, at Tidelands Community Hospice.
Funeral services were Saturday, July 26, 2008, at noon at Bethel AME Church. Viewing was held from 10 a.m. until services began at the church.

Mr. Norwood was born Sept. 10, 1923, in Bluefield, Va., a son of the late Clarence Norwood and Eather Wakefield Norwood. He was a retired truck driver and a World War II U.S. Army veteran.
Surviving are his wife, Sarah Norwood of Georgetown; six sons, Elder Jesse Washington of Hollis, N.Y., Jerome Washington of Barstow, Ga., Steven Norwood and Minister Levi Norwood Jr., both of Richmond, Va., Bernard Norwood of Queens, N.Y. and Victor Norwood of Jamaica, N.Y.; three daughters, Lillie Washington of Bridgeport, Conn., and Sandra Norwood Wright and Sara Norwood Turnage, both of Georgetown; 49 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
Norman Parsons
Norman Harvey Parsons, 79, of Largo, Fla., died Thursday, July 24, 2008, at his residence.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, July 29, 2008, at 2 p.m. at Georgetown Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Stephen H. Wilkins officiating.
Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery. Mayer Funeral Home, Georgetown Chapel, is in charge of local arrangements.
Mr. Parsons was born in Georgetown and moved to Largo in 1960 from Aiken. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean Conflict. He was a manager at General Electric for 35 years.
Surviving are his wife of 30 years, Linda Dawson Parsons; three children, N. David Parsons of Hickory, N.C., Joan P. Ray of Birmingham, Ala., and Phillip M. Parsons of Mechanicsville, Md.; two sisters, Miriam Thomas of Murrells Inlet and Evelyn Weaver of Ocala, Fla.; two brothers, Ivan Parsons of Georgetown and William Parsons of Barnwell; and 15 grandchildren.

Eugene Pestich
Eugene Pestich, 78, of Pawleys Island, died Wednesday, July 23, 2008, at his residence.
Services were Tuesday, July 22, 2008, at 11 a.m. at Goldfinch Funeral Home, Litchfield-Pawleys Island Chapel.
Mr. Pestich was born in Philadelphia, Pa., a son of the late Robert and Millica Pestich. He was a U.S. Army veteran.
Surviving are his wife, Rosemarie Pestich; a son, Robert Pestich of Philadelphia; two daughters, Monica Nolte of Bountiful, Utah, and Linda Lamelza of Philadelphia; three grandchildren, Lauren Lamelza and Analiese Pestich, both of Philadelphia, and Andree Nolte of Bountiful; and three sisters, Norma Yelovich of Malvern, Pa., Marcella Phinn of Philadelphia and Grace Smith of Warminster, Pa.
John West
John Willie West, 85, of Georgetown, died Sunday, July 20, 2008, at the Ralph H. Johnson Veterans Administration Medical Center in Charleston.
Graveside funeral services were held Thursday, July 24, 2008, at 2 p.m. at Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens. Graham Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. West was born April 10, 1923, in Williamsburg County, a son of the late Bertha West Wright. He was a retired commercial fisherman and a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Surviving are his lifetime companion, Mary O. Mathis; two stepdaughters, Star Edwards and Cindy Rogers, both of Georgetown; two stepsons, Buck Odum and Ervin Odum, both of Georgetown; and three siblings, Lawrence Wright of Columbia, Sam Wright of Mt. Pleasant and Rebecca Kay of West Pelzer.
Timothy Wilson
Timothy "Tim" Jay Wilson, 58, of Murrells Inlet and Bonifay, Fla., died Wednesday, July 23, 2008, at Doctors Memorial Hospital in Bonifay.
Services were Sunday, July 27, 2008, at 2 p.m. in Sims Funeral Chapel in Bonifay. Burial followed in Bonifay Cemetery. Goldfinch Funeral Home, Beach Chapel, was in charge of the local arrangements.
Mr. Wilson was the son of Marvin and LaFerne Wilson of Bonifay.
He was an irrigation superintendent in golf course construction and had helped in the construction of many golf courses in the Grand Strand area.
He was predeceased by a sister, Terry Wilson Sikes.
Surviving are three sons, Cody, Justin and Jacob Wilson, all of Murrells Inlet.
