Frank Causey Jr.

Frank Causey Jr., 74, of Surfside Beach, died Saturday, July 19, 2008 at his residence.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 22, 2008 at Goldfinch Funeral Home, Beach Chapel, with entombment following at Hillcrest Cemetery Mausoleum. The family received friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Monday, July 21, 2008 at the funeral home. Sign a guest book at goldfinchfuneralhome.com.

Born June 30, 1934, he was the son of the late Frank and Lula Mae Causey. Mr. Causey was the owner of Surfside Cleaners, and was of the Pentecostal Holiness faith. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Elwood and Hubert Causey.

Survivors include: his wife of 54 years, B. Louise Causey of Surfside Beach; four sons, F. Craig Causey (Anne), A. Wade Causey (Pam), V. Brad Causey, and C. Alex Causey (Gayle); eight grandchildren, Frank, Dale, Hugh, David, Bryce, Logan, Lincoln, and Austin; great-granddaughter, Mackenzi Causey; and a brother, Theo Causey (Doris).

Albert L. Cockfield

Albert Lavern Cockfield, 64, the husband of Linda Forbes Cockfield, died Sunday, July 20, 2008, at Georgetown Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be at 5 p.m. Wednesday, July 23, 2008, at the United Christian Outreach Church. Interment will follow in the Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens, directed by the Georgetown Chapel of McKenzie Funeral Home. Sign an online Family Register at mckenziefuneralh@aol.com.

Visitation was from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, July 22, 2008, at the funeral home.

Mr. Cockfield was born Oct. 23, 1943, in Hemingway, the son of Philip Pledger Cockfield and Francis Singleton Cockfield. He was an operator at the Georgetown Mill of International Paper Co. where he has been employed for 40 years and a member of the Quarter Century Club. He attended the United Christian Outreach Church.

He was predeceased by his parents.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are: two sons, Anthony "Tony" Levern Cockfield (Rhonda B.) of Hemingway; and Billy Jordan Jr. of Georgetown; three daughters, Lisa Ward (Ben), Wendy Redick (Wes), all of Georgetown; Christie Jordan of Charleston; four brothers, Wiley Cockfield, Roy Cockfield (Kathy), Rev. Alfred Cockfield (Sybel), all of Hemingway; P.J. Cockfield (Sharon) of Johnsonville; seven sisters, Marilyn Ard (Marvin), Nancy Lyerly, Ruth C. Powell, and Ila Mae Byrd, all of Hemingway; Carolyn Isgett (Leonard) of Pamplico and Edna Earl Lee (Pete) of Cowards; 11 grandchildren, Jodi Lynn Lytle, Nathan A. Baxley, Tonya M. Cockfield, Tabetha S. Cockfield, Ben A. Ward, Kelsey E. Ward, Carey J. Ward, Thomas B. Ward, Sydnie M. Jordan, Caroline H. Redick and Wesley J. Redick; 4 great-grandchildren; Kelsey R. Reese I. Joye Jr.

Reese "Bunky" Irby Joye, 70, of Mt. Pleasant died Sunday July 20, 2008.

Funeral services will be Thursday, July 24, 2008 at St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Mt. Pleasant at 5 p.m. A celebration of his life will be held at his residence immediately afterward.

Visitation prior to the funeral will be at Stuhr's Funeral Home, Mathis Ferry Road, Mt. Pleasant from 5 until 7 p.m., Wednesday, July 23, 2008.

Mr. Joye was born May 15, 1938, in Bennettsville. After graduation from high school, attended the University of South Carolina to pursue his degree in mechanical engineering. While there, he was president of his class, elected into Omicron Delta Kappa and was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. He loved telling his family of being invited his senior year to visit Cuba to see the agrarian reforms which the new leader, Fidel Castro, had initiated. The study of law brought him back to his alma mater in 1962.

After serving as an attorney negotiator for Boeing Aircraft in Seattle, Wash. and later as director of contract administration at Fairchild Hiller aircraft, Mr. Joye returned to South Carolina with his family to begin the private practice of law in Charleston with the Joye Law Firm.

Trial law became his calling. He was a primary founder of the Public Defender Office in Charleston County. He also was the founding president of the SC Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers.

An Eagle Scout in his youth, Mr. Joye was active in serving as a Scoutmaster at his church in Mt. Pleasant. Both of his sons attained the Eagle award during his leadership. In recent years, he was awarded the Silver Beaver from the Coastal Carolina Council of the Boy Scouts of America.

Mr. Joye was a member of St. Andrews Church in Mt. Pleasant and a former deacon of the Mt. Pleasant Presbyterian Church. He held memberships in the South Carolina Bar, the American Association for Justice, American Board of Trial Attorneys. He was a lifetime honorary member of the Hibernian Society, charter board member of the Coastal Crisis Chaplaincy, and a member of the National Board of Trial Advocacy.

Survivors include: his wife, Jacquelyn Day Joye; his son, Mark and his two children, Mason and Eliza of Mt. Pleasant; his son, Todd (Lynn) and their three children: Benjamin, William and Emily of Mt. Pleasant; Celeste Foster (Tom) of New York; and his sister, Mille Joye of Columbia with two nieces and one nephew.

He was predeceased by an older sister, Shirley Ann Joye Hall and by his parents, Reese Irby Joye and Mildred Stokes Odom Joye of Bennettsville.

Shelby Leberknight

Shelby Jean Leberknight, 71, of Georgetown, died Sunday, July 20, 2008 at her residence.

Memorial funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 23, 2008 in Graham Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating will be the Rev. Chris Giles.

She was born May 22, 1937 in Williamsburg County, a daughter of the late James Walter Roberts and the late Lola Onez Perry Roberts.

Ms. Leberknight was employed at Community Exchange in the Choppee community. She attended Ringel Heights Baptist Church and enjoyed gardening.

Surviving are: one son, Russell W. "Billy" Leberknight of Georgetown; one daughter, Dianna Jean Leberknight of Georgetown; four grandchildren, Danielle Sims, Jeremy Walker, Shawn Leberknight, and Chad Leberknight; three great-grandchildren, Kindal Poston, Breane Poston, and Raegan Sims; eight siblings, George W. Roberts of Georgetown, Dorothy J. Roberts of Williamsburg, Barbara A. Lee of Georgetown, Faye Bouchard of Douglasville, Ga., Alice "Mary" Pirt of Goose Creek, Sandra L. Hensley of Pamplico, Peggy Goins of Georgetown, and Dale "Jimmy" Ethridge of Alcolu.

She was predeceased by a great-grandson, Kevin Gage James; and five siblings, Francis Jacqulyn Adams, James D. Roberts, Carolyn Marie Bennette, David Paul Roberts, and Jessie Patricia "Patsy" Bath.

William A. Lofton

William Andrew Lofton, 54, of Myrtle Beach died Monday, July 21, 2008.

Lillian D. Moses

Lillian Edith Dawsey Moses, 92, of McClellanville, died Friday, July 18, 2008 at her home.

There will be a memorial service in her honor at 6 p.m. Thursday, July 24, 2008 at the McClellanville United Methodist Church.

Arrangements by Palmetto Cremation Society, Charleston.

Born July 31, 1915 in McClellanville, she was a career nurse and an instructor of Licensed Practical Nurses in Georgetown.

She is survived by a son, John Moses of Santa Fe, N.M.; a daughter, Elaine Youngman of McClellanville; two grandsons, Will Moses and Nathan Youngman; one granddaughter, Holland Youngman and one great-granddaughter, Harper Youngman.

Levi Norwood Sr.

Levi Norwood Sr., 84, of Georgetown, a retired truck driver, died Sunday, July 20, 2008 at Tidelands Community Hospice of Georgetown.

John W. West

John Willie West, 85, of Georgetown, died Sunday, July 20, 2008 at the Ralph H. Johnson Veterans Administration Medical Center in Charleston.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, July 24, 2008 in Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens. Graham Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. West was born April 10, 1923 in Williamsburg County, a son of the late Bertha West Wright.

Mr. West was a retired commercial fisherman and a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Surviving are: two step-daughters, Star Edwards and Cindy Rogers, both of Georgetown; two step-sons, Buck Odom and Ervin Odom, both of Georgetown; three siblings, Lawrence Wright of Columbia, Sam Wright of Mt. Pleasant, and Rebecca Kay of West Pelzer; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Harry Woodbury Sr.

Harry Edward Woodbury, Sr., 91, of Georgetown, died Sunday, July 20, 2008, at Prince George Healthcare.

Mr. Woodbury was born in Marion County on Feb. 26, 1917, a son of the late William J. Woodbury and Etta Hucks Woodbury. He served as a Chief Petty Officer in the Navy during World War II and was a Pearl Harbor survivor. Mr. Woodbury retired from the Woodlands Division of International Paper Company in 1980. He was a member of Wayne United Methodist Church.

Mr. Woodbury was predeceased by: his wife, Helen Cannon Woodbury; and a step-son, Gregg Duke.

Surviving are: a son, Harry Woodbury Jr. (Susan) of Georgetown; two step-sons, Thomas Duke (Beth) of Georgetown and Billy Duke (Marilyn) of Orange Park, Fla.; a daughter-in-law, Margie Duke of Georgetown; a brother, Billy P. Woodbury of Georgetown; two sisters, Edith W. Williams of Conway and Elaine D. Hawley of Georgetown; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Lucy Wright

Lucy Wright, 84, of Georgetown, died at her home in the Plantersville community on Sunday, July 20, 2008.l

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, July 25, 2008 at Bethel AME Church in Plantersville, directed by Wilds Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends at 6 p.m. Thursday, July 24, 2008 at Wilds Courtyard Chapel.

Mrs. Wright was born Nov. 30, 1927 in Georgetown, a daughter of the late Sam Milton and Mrs. Hess Frierson Milton. She attended Georgetown County schools.

She was a homemaker and attended Bethel AME Church.

Survivors include: four sons, Ben Wright Jr. of North Dakota, Sam Wright of Plant City, Fla., John Wright of Baltimore, Md. and Walter Wright of Myrtle Beach; four daughters, Carrie Alice Wright-Deas of Baltimore, Hestell Joiner of Walworth, N.Y., Marthena Elder and Kristina Wright-Mitchell, both of Georgetown; and her brother, George Milton of Georgetown.
