Christopher A. Carl

Christopher Austin Carl, 8, of Georgetown, died Friday, Aug. 1, 2008 in Lumberton, N.C., as a result of an automobile accident.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2008 at 11 a.m. in Screven Baptist Church. Officiating was Rev. Wayne Ellis and Rev. Berry McKenzie. Burial, directed by Graham Funeral Home, followed in Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens.

He was born June 5, 2000 in Mt. Pleasant, a son of Steven Martin Carl and the late Grace Vienna Cribb Carl.

He attended Screven Baptist Church and was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish. He was a second-grade student at Maryville Elementary School.

Surviving are: his father of Georgetown; one brother, Tyler Carl of Georgetown; his paternal grandparents, Joe and Faye Carl of Georgetown; his maternal grandparents, Wesley and Wanda Cribb of Georgetown; his maternal great-grandmother, Lizzie D. Cribb of Georgetown; and his paternal great-grandmother, Sue Harrelson of Georgetown.

Caleb W. Coggeshall

Caleb Wilds Coggeshall, 16, of Collins Creek, Murrells Inlet, died Sunday, Aug. 3, 2008 at his home.

Services were held at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2008 at Belin United Methodist Church with interment following in the church cemetery.

Born in Myrtle Beach, he was the son of Berryman and Lynn Coggeshall.

He was a student at St. James High School where he was a member of the National Honor Society. He was also a member of Belin United Methodist Church and Boy Scout Troop 396.

Surviving in addition to his parents of Murrells Inlet are paternal grandparents, Dr. and Mrs. B.E. Coggeshall Jr. of Cheraw; maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Lake Martin Jr. of James Island; sister, Ina Avery Coggeshall; brother, Berryman Edwards Coggeshall IV, both of Murrells Inlet; and several aunts and uncles.

Hilary O. Crawford

Hilary Ollerhead Crawford, 78, of Worthington, Ohio, died Sunday, Aug. 3, 2008 at Sunrise Assisted Living in Worthington.

A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 10, 2008 at Schoedinger Worthington Chapel in Worthington, Ohio. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Mrs. Crawford was born in Needham, Mass., and was a longtime resident of Georgetown.

She was preceded in death this past September by her husband, William S. Crawford.

Survivors include William B. Crawford (Denise Vujovich) of Chesterfield, Missouri and Holly C. Skinner (Corey) of Powell, Ohio; granddaughter, Jacquelyn D. Skinner of Powell; and a sister, Valerie Angle of Georgetown.

Marie D. Fontacone

Marie D. Fontacone, 72, of Murrells Inlet, died Saturday, Aug. 2, 2008.

Funeral service arrangements will be announced by Lee Funeral Home & Crematory.

Joan E. Kowalewski

Joan Emily Kowalewski of Murrells Inlet died Sunday, July 27, 2008. She was laid to rest on Saturday, Aug. 2, 2008.

Mrs. Kowalewski was born Sept. 17, 1919 in India, where her father worked as an engineer. The family returned to England and she worked for the English Parliament.

During World War II she worked for the Polish underground and met her future husband, Marian. After they were married they immigrated to the United States in 1950. She and Marian were married for 63 years until his death in 2005. She was buried with her husband in Pinelawn Cemetery in Farmingdale, N.Y.

She leaves behind a son, Peter William Kowalewski (Trish); a daughter, Barbara Ann Plaxco (Todd); three grandchildren, Christopher, Adam and Natalie.

Joseph McMichael

Joseph McMichael, 67, of the North Santee Community of Georgetown died Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2008 at Tidelands Community Hospice Center in Georgetown.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Wilds Funeral Home of Georgetown.

Vivian E. Radford

Vivian E. Radford, 85, of Garden City Beach, died Sunday, Aug. 3, 2008 at her home.

Arrangements will be announced by Goldfinch Funeral Home, Beach Chapel.

Jerry W. Thornburg

Jerry Wayne "Jason" Thornburg, 59, of Pawleys Island, died Friday, Aug. 1, 2008 in Lumberton, N.C. as a result of an auto accident.

A funeral service will be held at Greene Funeral Service, South Chapel, Gastonia on Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2008 at 3 p.m., conducted by Rev. Matt Vanderbilt. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Belmont.

Visitation will be from 2 to 3 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Sign a guestbook at www.greenefuneral.com.

Mr. Thornburg was born April 5, 1949 in Hampton, Va, son of the late Albert "Yates" Thornburg and Edith G. Thornburg.

He was retired after a career of sales and construction. He received an honorable discharge from the U.S. Marine Corps.

Survivors include: his brother; Terrell G. Thornburg (Peggy) of Clover, S.C.; sister; Deborah T. Lipscomb of Norfolk, Va, niece; Meredith Thornburg of Charlotte; and God son; Michah Wilkerson of Richmond, Va.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Roberta B. Thornburg.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Bethlehem Baptist Imagine Campaign, Building Fund, 133 Lynland Lane, Gastonia, NC 28056.
