Milba P. Altman
Milba Pelt Altman, 88, of Andrews, died Saturday, Aug. 2, 2008, at Tidelands Community Hospice House in Georgetown.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 4, 2008, at Pine Crest Baptist Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Paul W. Wall and the Rev. Geraldine A. Bednego. Burial will follow in Oak Ridge Memorial Cemetery.

Mrs. Altman was born March 18, 1920 in Trio, a daughter of the late Garson E. Pelt and Lottie Belle Morris Pelt. She attended Williamsburg County schools. Mrs. Altman retired from Tupperware in Hemingway and once was the owner-operator of Carolina Drive-In in Andrews. She was a member of Pine Crest Baptist Church and also attended The Christian Fortress.
Mrs. Altman was predeceased by: her husband, William Bryant Altman of Andrews; a son, Harold Douglas Altman of Andrews; a sister, Hazel P. Coleman of Elgin; three step-daughters, Linnie Mae McCutcheon of Kingstree, Thelma L. Ward of Andrews, and Beatrice Driggers of Georgetown; a step-son, W. L. Altman of Kingstree; and a grand-daughter, Kimberly H. Altman of Andrews.
Surviving are: a daughter, Janice Young (Bubba) of Andrews; a son, Sanders O'Neal Altman (Bobbie) of Chapin; and a brother, Bobby Thornell (Barbara) of Andrews; 24 grandchildren; and a number of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Randall W. Ballew
Randall Wayne "Rambo" Ballew, 58, of Surfside Beach, died Thursday, July 31, 2008 in Garden City Beach.

Mr. Ballew was born March 3, 1950 in Greensboro, N.C. North Carolina. He enjoyed many different activities, but most of all riding motorcycles. He was a founder of the Southern Thunder Motorcycle Club in Rock Hill. He was also a member of the Myrtle Beach Moose Lodge.
His work career started in Surfside Beach, managing Neal and Pam's Pub. He also owned a leather shop in Rock Hill. His last place of employment was with Sam's Corner in Garden City Beach.

Christopher A. Carl
Christopher Austin Carl, 8, of Georgetown, died Friday, Aug. 1, 2008 in Lumberton, N.C., as a result of an automobile accident.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2008 at 11 a.m. in Screven Baptist Church. Officiating will be Rev. Wayne Ellis and Rev. Berry McKenzie. Burial, directed by Graham Funeral Home, will follow in Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens.

He was born June 5, 2000 in Mt. Pleasant, a son of Steven Martin Carl and the late Grace Vienna Cribb Carl.
He attended Screven Baptist Church and was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish. He was a second-grade student at Maryville Elementary School.
Surviving are: his father of Georgetown; one brother, Tyler Carl of Georgetown; his paternal grandparents, Joe and Faye Carl of Georgetown; his maternal grandparents, Wesley and Wanda Cribb of Georgetown; and his maternal great-grandmother, Lizzie D. Cribb of Georgetown.

Grace Vienna Carl, 38, of Georgetown, died Friday, Aug. 1, 2008 in Lumberton, N.C., as a result of an automobile accident.

Mrs. Carl was born Nov. 24, 1969 in Odenton, Md., a daughter of Wesley Leo Cribb Sr. and Wanda Jeanette McCormick Cribb.
She was a former employee with The Dieter Co. and Coastal Carolina Realty, both of Pawleys Island. She was a graduate of Georgetown High School and a member of Georgetown Church of God.
Surviving are: one son, Tyler Carl of Georgetown; her parents of Georgetown; her paternal grandmother, Lizzie D. Cribb of Georgetown; two brothers, David Cribb (Stephanie) and Wesley Cribb II (Helen), all of Georgetown; and one sister, Dana Edenfield of Ladson.

Haeng Mok Cumbie
Haeng Mok "Nancy" Cumbie, 67, of Georgetown, wife of Carlton Cumbie Sr., died Thursday, July 31, 2008 at Tidelands Community Hospice House.

Mrs. Cumbie was born July 8, 1941 in South Korea, a daughter of Young Im Kang Yoo and the late Doo Young Yoo. She was a homemaker.

Shirley M. Edgar
Shirley Mae Edgar, 79, of Pawleys Island, died Saturday, Aug. 2, 2008 at Waccamaw Community Hospital.

Margaret Letitia "Peggy" Gorfida, 80, of Garden City Beach, died Friday, Aug. 1, 2008.

Mrs. Gorfida was born in Warren, Penn., a daughter of the late Carter Harrison and Mary Agnes Rowland.
She was a housewife who enjoyed life and was an avid golfer. She worked for 15 years at New Process Company of Warren, Penn. She donated her time to many charitable organizations.
Survivors include: her husband, Samuel Gorfida of Garden City Beach; son, Michael Gorfida of Colonial Beach, Va.; four grandchildren, Jason Lasher, Alexander Gorfida, and Madison Gorfida all of Colonial Beach, Va., and Christopher Lasher of Leesburg, Va., three great-grandchildren of Leesburg, Va., and one brother, Dr. J. Carter Rowland of Fredonia, N.Y.

Alec Johnson
Alec Johnson, 65, of Georgetown, died Sunday, July 27, 2008 at Georgetown Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 2, 2008 at Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Howard Davis officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery, under the direction of McKnight-Fraser Funeral Home.
Visitation was Friday, Aug. 1, 2008 at the Walter S. Fraser memorial Chapel, from 6 to 8 p.m.
Mr. Johnson was born Oct. 17, 1942 in Georgetown County, a son of the late Tom Johnson and Emma Carter. He was educated in Georgetown County public schools and was a member of Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church.
Survivors include: his wife, Mae Bell Porchea Johnson of Georgetown; his children, Bryan Johnson, Gregory Johnson, Keith Johnson, Kevin Johnson, Reggie Johnson, Cynthia Johnson, Sheretha Johnson, Bridget Johnson and Tracy Johnson, all of Georgetown, and Alec Johnson Jr. of Oklahoma City, Okla.; his brother, Lewis Johnson of Georgetown; his sisters, Bernetha Williams of Bronx, N.Y. and Anna Bell Fredrick (Thomas) of Mt. Vernon, N.Y.; and 15 grandchildren.
Elijah Lance
Elijah E. "Elazer" Lance, 72, also known as "Uncle Al," of the Dunbar community, died Tuesday, July 29, 2008 at Georgetown Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 2, 2008 at Mt. Olive Baptist Church in the Dunbar community of Georgetown County. Burial followed in the church cemetery under the direction of Linen-Knox Funeral Home of Georgetown.
Mr. Lance was born July 25, 1936 in Georgetown, a son of the late Rev. Singleton Lance and Clara Linen Lance. He attended schools in Georgetown County and was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church. He was a logging truck driver.
Survivors include: his son, Travis Session; three sisters, Cleo Holmes (Gus), Bessie Lee Giles (Rufus), Lefolia Priest (McClelean); and one brother, Deacon Javan Lance, all of Georgetown.
Essau McFadden
Essau McFadden, 73, of Lake City, died Saturday, Aug. 2, 2008 at Carolina Hospital Systems in Florence.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by Nesmith-Pinckney Funeral Home of Hemingway.
Rhea P. Reese
Rhea Paul Reese, 89, of Pawleys Island, formerly of Hershey, Pa., died Thursday, July 31, 2008.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.

She was born July 29, 1919 in Mount Carmel, Penn. to Charles Lincoln and Frances Brosh Paul.
She spent most of her adult life volunteering, and was active in many community organizations and projects, including the Harrisburg Hospital Auxiliary, Harrisburg Civic Club, Lebanon Valley College, Harrisburg Art Association, Hershey Symphony, Salvation Army, Harrisburg Osteopathic Hospital, and DAR.
Survivors include: her sister, Mildred Goyne Fillak of Hendersonville, N.C.; two daughters, Nancy Hart (Jim) of Pawleys Island and Martha Bryan (Kelly) of Stone Mountain, Ga.; five grandchildren, Robert Reese Bryan, Elizabeth Marie Bryan, Claire Hyson Hart, Joseph Paul Bryan, and Meredith Grace Hart; and favorite nieces, Judy Oneacre of Hendersonville, N.C. and Carole Rhodes of Mechanicsburg, Pa.
She is predeceased by her husband of 39 years, Robert H. Reese; second husband, William Madden; and sisters, Eleanor Paul Garman and Ruth Paul.

Charles Shoemaker
Charles "Chuck" Harold Shoemaker, 80, of Georgetown, died Sunday, Aug. 3, 2008, at the Medical University of South Carolina Hospital.
Memorial funeral services will be held Monday, Aug. 4, 2008, at 4 p.m. in the Georgetown Chapel of Mayer Funeral Home. Officiating will be the Rev. Rick Powell. The family suggests come casually dressed and celebrate Chuck's life.

Mr. Shoemaker was born in Rivesville, W.Va. on Aug. 14, 1927, a son of the late Harold Claude Shoemaker and Agnes Willa Smith. He was formerly a service and branch manager for Ryder Truck Rental. Mr. Shoemaker was a veteran of the Korean conflict and retired from the U.S. Army after 22 years' service. He was a member and past president of the Georgetown Lions Club and a member of the American Legion and Senior Citizens Club. Mr. Shoemaker was the widower of Janice Gurley Shoemaker.
Surviving are: two daughters, Ellen Gotses (John) of Fairmont, W.Va.; Lisa K. Shoemaker of Charlotte; a son, Jeffery C. Shoemaker (Donna) of Charlotte, N.C.; two step-daughters, Jackie B. Reid of Charlotte and Jill McDonald of Georgetown; a step-son, Benny McDonald (Paula) from Rome, Ga.; grandchildren, Brian Gotses, John Paul Gotses II, Leanne Shoemaker, Justin Deese, Reagan Reid, T.J. Lippert, Kimberly Lippert; and great-grandchildren, Jesse Ragon, Aaron Gotses, Jordan Gotses, Shawn Gotses.

Jackie F. Wall, 81, of Kingstree, wife of the late George A. Wall Sr., and former resident of Georgetown, died Friday, Aug. 1, 2008 at her residence.

She was born Jan. 24, 1927 in Florence County, a daughter of the late John Tillman Floyd and the late Orie McKenzie Floyd. Mrs. Wall was a retired laboratory technician with the medical building in Georgetown. She was a member of Sandy Bay Pentecostal Holiness Church and a former member of Screven Baptist Church, where she was an adult Sunday school teacher and member of the Deborah Sunday School Class.
Surviving are: two sons, G. Allen Wall Jr. (Renee) of Kingstree and Timothy Alex Wall (Mary) of Georgetown; one daughter, Ann Lee (Benjamin) of Lexington; one sister, Peggy F. Walker of Kingstree; six grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
