Columbus Adderson
Columbus Adderson, 85, of Georgetown, died Sunday, Aug. 17, 2008 at the Medical University of South Carolina Hospital in Charleston.
Funeral services were at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, 2008 at Bethel AME Church in the Plantersville community of Georgetown. Burial followed at the church cemetery, directed by Wilds Funeral Home.
Mr. Adderson was born Sept. 24, 1923, a son of the late Ezekiel Adderson and Isadora Neal Adderson. He attended Georgetown County public schools. He was a member of Bethel AME Church, where he served as class leader, trustee, senior male choir member and leder of leaders. He was a member of Beech St. Masonic Lodge No. 407, the Plantersville Tri-Community Organization and worked with the Adopt-A-Highway program and was an auxiliary deputy sheriff.
Survivors include: five daughters, Ruthena Wearing of West Haven, Conn., Rosa Deis of New Haven, Conn., Mildred I. Pyatt, Ruth Vereen and Bessie Genise Adderson, all of Georgetown; four sons, Columbus Adderson Jr., Vernon Adderson and Wesley Adderson of Georgetown, and James Adderson of New Haven, Conn.; his brother, James Lesane of Thailand; two sisters, Albertha Walker and Reva Mae Fuller, both of Georgetown; 20 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
He was a retired wood sorter at International Paper.
Rochelle Anderson
Rochelle Anderson of Hemingway died Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2008 at Williamsburg Memorial Hospital in Kingstree.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 24, 2008 at Greater St. Mark AME Church in Hemingway, with the Rev. Michael J. Frost officiating. Interment followed in the Barr Cemetery, under the direction of Nesmith-Pinckney Funeral Home.
She was born in Williamsburg County, a daughter of Sam J. and Luttie Nesmith. She was educated in the public schools of Nesmith and Williamsburg County. She was a member of Greater St. Mark AME Church and was a member of the Gospel Choir. She was employed at the Williamsburg County School District and the elastic plant at Tupperware.
She was predeceased by her husband, Leroy Anderson.
Survivors include: four daughters, Laura Anderson of the home; Juanita Anderson-Gladden of Hemingway, Shirley Cooper (Ben) of Hemingway, and Janice Anderson-Barr of Hemingway; two sons, Howard Anderson (Annie Ruth) of Hemingway and Glen Anderson of Columbia; one sister, Pansy Morris (Elic) of Philadelphia, Penn; and two brothers, Alreatha Nesmith (Queen) of New Jersey and Roosevelt Nesmith (Yvonne) of Philadelphia.
Francis W. Joye
Francis "Woody" Woodrow Joye, 92, of Surfside Beach, died Thursday, Aug. 21, 2008 in West Columbia.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, Aug. 25, 2008 at Surfside United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Scott Wachter officiating, with burial to follow at Ocean Woods Cemetery. Goldfinch Funeral Home, Beach Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Joye was born in Kingstree, a son of the late Emma and Walter Joye. He retired in 1978 from Springs Industries after 30 years of service as purchasing manager, and was a Master Mason since 1942.
Mr. Joye was preceded in death by his daughter, Camille; and his wife, Rosalie.
Surviving are: his daughters, Patricia Sistare of Lancaster and Fran Sturgis (Floyd Oakley) of Charlotte, N.C.; grandchildren, Shelley Brundage of Irmo, Wendi Sturgis of New York, N.Y., and Christy Melton of Lancaster; and four great-grandchildren.

Steven M. Joye
Steven Michael Joye, 18, of the Prospect community, Lake City, died Friday, Aug. 22, 2008, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Mr. Joye was born Sept. 21, 1989, in Columbia, the son of Steven Dal Crolley and Kathleen Powers Joye. He was a 2007 graduate of Johnsonville High School and a sophomore of Francis Marion University.
Surviving in addition to his parents of Lake City are: one brother, Kevin Joye of Lake City; one niece, Shannon K. Joye of Lake City; paternal grandmother, Pauline Crolley of Columbia; and maternal grandparents, Harold and Alma Joye of Johnsonville.
Joanna S. Kann
Joanna Smith Kann, 73, of Georgetown, died Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2008, at her residence.

Mrs. Kann was born in Marion on May 16, 1935, a daughter of the late Clarence Smith and Daisy Collins Smith. She grew up in Socastee and lived on Johns Island prior to moving to the North Santee community of Georgetown County.
Mrs. Kann was predeceased by: a son, Roger Causey.
Surviving are: her husband, Donald L. Kann of Georgetown; two sons, Mike Causey and Alan Kann, both of Columbia; three daughters, Teresa Lough of Axis, Ala., Patty Hewitt of Wilmington, N.C., and Deborah Sellers of Bolivia, N.C.; a brother, C. W. Smith of Conway; a sister, Tina Brigham of Myrtle Beach; 13 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Margaret A. McCants Lambert, 71, of Georgetown, wife of Floyd Lambert, died Friday, Aug. 22, 2008, at Roper Hospital in Charleston.

Bessie McGill
Bessie McGill of Nesmith died Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2008 at McLeod Hospice House in Florence.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 25, 2008 at Friendship United Methodist Church in Nesmith, with the Rev. Carlton J. McClam officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery, under the direction of Nesmith-Pinckney Funeral Home of Hemingway.
Mrs. McGill was born in Williamsburg County, a daughter of the late Sam and Viola McCutchen. She was educated in the public schools of Williamsburg County and was a member of Friendship United Methodist Church. She was employed at The Way of the Cross Day Care.
She was predeceased by her husband, Henry McGill.
Survivors include: six daughters, Margaret Williams, Hazel Gaskins (Joshua) of Nesmith, Josephine Flournoy, Bessie Stratford of Philadelphia, Penn., Viola Murphy of Temple Hills, Md., Rosa Mims of the home; four sons, Sam McGill (Eva Mae), Henry McGill (Dorthy), William McGill (Callie), Nathaniel McGill (Dorthy), all of Philadelphia, Penn.; one sister, Minnie Franklin of Nesmith; two brothers, Sanfers "Lee" McCutchen; and Frank McCutchen of Philadelphia; and three grandchildren.
Bennie J. Port
Bennie J. Port, 74, of Hemingway, died Saturday, Aug. 23, 2008 in a Florence hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 25, 2008 in the Morris Funeral Home Chapel in Hemingway, with burial in the Garden of Devotion Cemetery.
Mr. Port was born in Williamsburg County, a son of the late Bennie and Viola Camerom Port. He was retired from the Georgetown Steel mill, was a member of the E.L. Chapman Worship Center and attended Williamsburg County schools.
Surviving are: his wife, Nellie Casselman Port of the home; children, Jennelle Douglas (Eddie), Teresa Richardson (Steve), Sharlene Cribb (Roger) and David Port (Pam), all of Hemingway; brother, Bill Port of Effingham; sisters, Margaret Cameron of McClellanville, Shirley Rich of Darlington and Daisy Ard of Hemingway; grandchildren, Felicia Douglas (Junior), Angie Richardson (Patrick), Kimberly Richardson, Tara Richardson, Tracie Richardson, Morgan Collins (Kevin), Derek Collins, Joshua Smedley, Joshaiah Port and David Jennis Port; great-grandchildren, Birttanie Douglas, Cody Douglas, Tyler Rabon, Macy Rabon, Zackery Thompson, Carson Thompson and Emma Creel.
Mr. Port was predeceased by a son, Freddie Port; a brother, Alton Port; and sisters, Violet Mae Parnell, Gracie Greene and Ivalene Carter.
Vera Pressley
Vera Pressley, 63, of Nesmith, died Saturday, Aug. 23, 2008 at her home.

Michael Ulman
Michael Ulman, 63, of Reading, Penn., died Friday, Aug. 22, 2008, in Reading.

Mr. Ulman was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. on Dec. 5, 1944, a son of the late William Ulman and Lillian Zasloff Ulman. He lived in Reading since 1986, where he was owner and operator of Deck The Wall framing shop.
Surviving are: a son, Michael W. Ulman (Erica) of Murrells Inlet; a daughter, Victoria Ulman of California; a sister, Joan Horowitz of Arizona; and two grandchildren, Zachary Michael Ulman and Emma Grace Ulman, both of Murrells Inlet.

Elfriede Ann Walters, 76, of Georgetown, died Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2008, at the Tidelands Community Hospice Center.

Mrs. Walters was born Aug. 16, 1932, in Schweinfurt, Germany, the daughter of Otto Max Sunkel and Maria Anna Zirkel Sunkel. She was a retired burn-in operator of AVX Corporation.
Surviving are: three sons, Terrance "Terry" Walters of Conway, Donald "Don" Walters of Georgetown, and Perry Walters of Hemingway; two daughters, Lucy W. Miracle of Conway; Deb Hill of Burr, N.B.; two sisters, Linda Harrenfels of Lindenhusrt, N.Y., and Linda Shriver of Lazalle, Penn.; 8 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
Shirley C. Walters
Shirley Channel Walters of Andrews died Friday, Aug. 22, 2008.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 25, 2008, at First Baptist Church of Andrews. Officiating will be the Rev. Donald P. Sapp. Burial will follow in Andrews Memorial Cemetery.

She was born Nov. 28, 1939 in Greeley, Colorado to John H. And Bessie A. (Calkins) Channel. She grew up in Greeley and graduated from Greeley Central High School in 1957. She briefly attended Colorado State College.
In 1958, she married Edgar Walters II and moved to Charleston. Later, the couple moved to Andrews. She joined the Baptist Church and went to work for Swinnie Supply, where she worked for 38 years.
Survivors are: a son, Edgar B. Walters III (Bunny) and daughter Kelly Mitchell (Bobby), all of Columbia; five grandchildren, Justin, Jonathan, and Lindsey Mitchell and Claire and Chloe Walters; a brother, Harold "Mike" Channel of Greeley, Colo.; and a sister, Sharon Harter (James) of Warsaw, Missouri.
She was predeceased by: her parents, John and Bessie; her husband, Edgar; five brothers, Franklin "Pat", Bill, Clyde, George, and Charles Channel; and three sisters, Nellie Vanderslice, Geraldine Paul, and Dollie McCullough.

Belton Watson
Belton Watson, 66, of Andrews, died Sunday, Aug. 17, 2008.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 22, 2008 at Mt. Zion AME Church, with the Rev. McNeil Evans Jr. officiating. Burial, under the direction of McKnight-Fraser Funeral Home, followed in the church cemetery.
Mr. Watson was born Dec. 23, 1941 in Williamsburg County, a son of the late Alfred and Emma Dicker Watson.
Survivors include: two sisters, Eva Fulton and Celia Nesmith of Rochester, N.Y.; and two brothers, Urtee Watson of Rochester and Moses Watson of Youngstown, Ohio.
