Nathaniel Z. Brave
Nathaniel Z. Brave, 82, of Georgetown, died Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2008 at Georgetown Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Monday, Aug. 11, 2008 at Greater St. Stephen AME Church. Burial followed in Morning Glory Cemetery, under the direction of Wilds Funeral Home.
Mr. Brave was born March 21, 1926 in Georgetown, a son of the late Alex Brave and Rebecca McCoy Brave. He was educated in the Georgetown County public schools and AT&T University in Greensboro, N.C. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, and was a retired crane operator at Georgetown Steel Corp. He was a member of Greater St. Stephen AME Church.
Survivors include: his daughters, Elder Betty Smith, Doretha Simmons, Beverly Trappier and Devaneae Blake, all of Georgetown; his sons, John B. Ford of New York, N.Y., LaVern Brave and Omar Brave of Georgetown, and Tyson Brave of Allendale; and his brothers, Alex Brave Jr. and Steven Brave of Martinboro, W.Va.
Walter J. Brown
Walter Jay Brown, 88, of Georgetown, died Sunday, Aug. 17, 2008, at Tidelands Community Hospice House.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2008, at Georgetown Presbyterian Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Stephen H. Wilkins and the Rev. William Puckett.

Mr. Brown was born in Rochester, Ind. on Aug. 4, 1920, a son of the late Selden J. Brown and Grace Ella Middleton Brown. He graduated from Purdue University in 1943 with a degree in Forestry. Mr. Brown retired from the Woodlands Division of International Paper Company. He was a member of the Society of American Foresters for more than 50 years.
Mr. Brown was also a member of Georgetown Presbyterian Church, the Fellowship Sunday School Class, and the Men's Breakfast. He served his church as a Deacon and was church treasurer for many years.
Mr. Brown was predeceased by: two brothers; and two sisters.
Surviving are: a sister, Ellamae Holloway of Rochester, Ind.; and 16 nieces and nephews.

John A. Ford
John Ambrose Ford of Pawleys Island, died Aug. 7, 2008, at Georgetown Memorial Hospital.
A memorial service was held at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 11, 2008, at Precious Blood of Christ Catholic Church. The family received friends Sunday, Aug. 10, 2008, from 5 to 8 p.m. with a prayer vigil at 7 p.m. at Goldfinch Funeral Home, Litchfield-Pawleys Chapel.
He is survived by his wife, Anna Maria Ford, a teacher at Howard Adult Education Center.
The son of John A. Ford and Mabelle Loomis Ford, he was one of 10 children born to the couple in New Haven, Conn. He was born on June 21, 1920. He graduated in 1941 from Yale College in New Haven. Early in 1942, he enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps, and served for more than four years as combat intelligence staff officer.
Following the war, he received an M.A. in journalism in 1948.
There, he met his first wife, the mother of his six children.
He worked for Pillsbury Mills, American Cyanamid Co. and Chrysler Corporation. At the close of 1975, he retired from Chrysler.
After two years of retirement, he become a senior vice president and director of Hill & Knowlton. He retired again in 1985 and moved to the Eastern Shore of Maryland.
Mr. Ford has been active in a number of civic, professional, and industry groups, including the Motor Vehicle Manufacturers Association, the Public Relations Society of America, and the University of Detroit public relations advisory committee. He also served as vice chairman of the Detroit Chamber of Commerce.
Throughout his life, a member and habitué of country clubs, he belonged to quite a few wherever his professional journey took him, and, locally, the River Club and Litchfield Country Club in Pawleys Island. He also enjoyed membership in the Yale Club in New York City.
In addition to his wife, Anna Maria Ford, and step-daughter Alexis Sky of New York City, Mr. Ford is survived by his six children with his first wife, Virginia Anderson Ford (since deceased) of Emmetsburg, Iowa: Cynthia Kasper (Paul) of Frankfort, Mich.; Gail Sonia (John) of Franklin, Tenn.; Marian Ford (Scott Smith) of Royal Oak, Mich.; Thomas J. Ford (Debbie) of Goodrich, Mich.; John A. Ford (Bethany) of East Lansing, Mich.; and James A. Ford (Jo Ann) of Durand, Mich. None of Mr. Ford's brothers and sisters has survived him. His grandchildren are Josh Bradley, Kerry Sonia, John T. Sonia, Kyle Sonia, Christopher Ford, Austin Ford, Paige Ford, Jacob Ford and Hannah Ford.

Alex Gamble Jr.
Alex Gamble Jr., 67, of Jersey City, N.J., died at his home on Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2008.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2008 at Mt. Sinai Baptist Church in Georgetown, under the direction of Wilds Funeral Home. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Mr. Gamble was born April 4, 1941 in Georgetown, a son of the late Alex Gamble Sr. and Della Dozier Gamble. He attended Choppee High School in Georgetown. He was retired from Gateway Security System in Newark, N.J.
Survivors include: two daughters, Tracey C. Asia of Overland, Kan. and Tonia M. Gamble of Middletown, Dela.; two sons, Sherman Gamble of Plainsfield, N.J. and Alex Gamble of Middletown, Dela.; three sisters, Cleo Morris and Pauline Mosely of Jersey City and Codell Moore of Hillside, N.J.; two brothers, Leroy Gamble and John Gamble of Jersey City; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Really Ann Hannah
Really Ann Hannah, 66, of Andrews, died Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2008.
Funeral services were held at 12 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2008 at St. Peter Way of the Cross Church, with Elder Keith D. Nesmith officiating. Burial followed in Mt. Zion Cemetery under the direction of McKnight-Fraser Funeral Home of Andrews.
Mrs. Hannah was born June 10, 1942 in Andrews, a daughter of Samuel Anderson and the late Alafair Anderson. She attended Williamsburg County schools.
Survivors include: her son, Garrett Hannah of Rochester, N.Y.; a daughter, Crystal Hannah of Andrews; her father and step-mother, Samuel and Mildred Anderson of Andrews; three sisters, Fannie Mae Eaddy, Feletha Humphrey of Brooklyn, N.Y. and Roselena Anderson, Cleveland, Ohio; and 7 grandchildren.
John E. Jardel
John Edward Jardel, 75, of Murrells Inlet, died Friday, Aug. 15, 2008 at his home.
Memorial services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2008 from the St. Michael Catholic Church in Garden City Beach, with a reception following at the family's home.

Denise Parks
Denise Parks, 51, of Myrtle Beach, died Thursday, Aug. 14, 2008 at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center.

She was born Nov. 7, 1956 in Myrtle Beach, and was a daughter of the late Doug and Barbara Parks. She was also predeceased by her maternal grandparents, Jeff and Lucile Pierce.
She was graduated from Myrtle Beach High School and received an associates degree from Horry Technical College in computers and accounting. She was employed by Myrtle Beach Seafood Company, and later helped establish and was co-owner of Cooper Mechanical Services Inc. Denise was a former co-director of the Eastern Surfing Association and was the "Sun Fun Girl" during the early 1960s Sun Fun Festival.
Surviving are: two sons, James D. Cooper (Brandi) of Little River, and Jeremiah R. Cooper (Nancy) of Florence; her former husband, Glenn H. Cooper of Myrtle Beach; three sisters, Rene Parks of Conway, Gina Brown (Chris) of Myrtle Beach, and Becky Cooper of Columbia; two grandchildren, Vega Smallin of Myrtle Beach and Oliver Cooper of Florence; five nephews and nieces, including Andrew Parks Wildes of Georgetown.

Felicia Williams
Felicia Williams of Georgetown died Aug. 13, 2008 at the Medical University of South Carolina Hospital.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2008 at 3 p.m. at Nesmith-Pinckney Funeral Home Chapel in Hemingway. Apostle James King will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery.
Mrs. Williams was born in Georgetown County, a daughter of Joe and Blondell Carr. She was a graduate of Pleasant Hill High School and a member of Word Ministry Church.
Surviving are her huband, William Williams of Georgetown; three children, Jaquarius Carr, Kamaya Williams and Quan Williams, all of Georgetown; her parents of Hemingway; two sisters, JoAnn Cole of Andrews and Bridget Gore of Conway; a brother, Joe Carr Jr. of Hemingway.
