Pawleys Island -- Waccamaw High's Nick Davis signed to play for the Greenville Titans and attend Greenville Tech last week.

The Titans are a club team that plays against other club teams and college junior varsity teams. Titans' players attend colleges in the Upstate area.

After last season, which was the Titans' second, eight players received offers from larger schools.

"You start at a small college but you have the opportunity to go to a bigger college," Davis said.

Davis played numerous positions during two years at Waccamaw, playing on offense and defense.

"He was a versatile player," Waccamaw head coach Tyronne Davis said. "We played him all over the field."

Davis led Waccamaw with 332 rushing yards and 110 receiving yards on 2011. He scored six touchdowns, three on the ground and three through the air.

Coach Davis said Nick looked into the Greenville club on his own and talked about it with Waccamaw's coaches after the Warriors' season ended in November.

"It will be a good experience for him," coach Davis said.

"I was hoping for it," Nick said. "The coaches said everybody will get a chance to play."

He thinks the Warriors will be better next season.

"They're going to be a young team, but eventually they'll be pretty good."

Anytime an athlete gets an opportunity at the next level it is a teaching moment, coach Davis said.

"Hopefully young players can see how important it is to work hard in the classroom and on the field."
