The South Carolina Department of Commerce and Georgetown County announced that MetalTech Systems of South Carolina will open a new manufacturing facility in Georgetown County.
MetalTech Systems will manufacture conveyor systems for the recycling industry, which will be sold to private waste management companies and municipalities. The company will invest approximately $4 million dollars and create 60 new jobs as a result of the investment.
"We are pleased to expand our operations in South Carolina with this new manufacturing facility. Georgetown County provides us with a positive business environment and a strong workforce. We appreciate all the support we've received from state and local officials," said Richard Howard, president of MetalTech Systems.
MetalTech Systems, based in Pawleys Island, has purchased a pre-existing building in Andrews, a 48,000 square foot manufacturing facility.
"Today's announcement is another sign that our efforts to improve the state's economic soil conditions are working to attract new investment and grow existing businesses. As well, this news demonstrates that the state's economy continues to present new opportunities and with those opportunities come new jobs. We remain committed to enhancing the state's business climate with efforts that will encourage job creation throughout South Carolina," said Gov. Mark Sanford.
"MetalTech Systems designs and manufactures a complete line of conveyers with a complete knowledge in the wood, solid waste and recycling industries. The company has the expertise to engineer, manufacture, and install a system to a company's specific needs. Their decision to partner with a South Carolina business and locate a new venture in our state speaks to the strength of our workforce and business climate. Thanks to the team efforts of local and state officials, Georgetown County will benefit from this investment," said Joe Taylor, Secretary of Commerce.
Johnny Morant, Georgetown County Council Chairman, said "Georgetown County is excited to welcome MetalTech Systems as they join our growing business community. We are proud to have an environmentally friendly company that will manufacture conveyor systems for the recycling industry here. Local residents will certainly benefit from the 60 jobs that will be created. We look forward to a prosperous future with MetalTech Systems in Georgetown County."
MetalTech Systems was founded in 1987 as an equipment sales company. Since then, the company has become a diversified engineering and construction management company, specializing in hot metals, construction and demolition waste recycling, metal recycling, renewable energy and manufacturing. The company's systems can reduce waste and provide an additional revenue stream for its customers by reselling waste materials for reuse or fuel.

I can leave my name. It is Janet Murphy. Is ther anything you need to say to me? What difference does it make if I leave my name or not? My thought are mine, if I leave my name or not! Posted by Janet on 1/17/2009 |

Someone needs to chill out. Since this person wants to remain unknown, you might want to grow up as well and attach name to your feelings. Posted by Brian on 1/14/2009 |

Why don't you people grow up. It is stupid that you have nothing better to do than criticize everyone. No one has anything good to say about anything that goes on in this town. Whatever happens is someone elses fault. Or someone wants to take credit for someones work. PEOPLE GROW UP! QUIT ACTING LIKE A BUNCH OF TEENAGERS!!! Posted by Someone on 1/14/2009 |

Be careful what you ask for. I have recommended that to him. In my opinion, he should address you all as himself. But we are adults and we decide for ourselves what we do. Speaking of adults, have you grown up and used what was provided to find an answer to your questions? I assume no. Posted by Jamie Sanderson on 1/14/2009 |

why is jamie speaking on behalf of his daddy? he said james told me he'll provide a phone number. has james forgotten how to type? why does he have his little boy speaking for him? Posted by curious george on 1/14/2009 |

I could care less who did what to make it happen. I am just glad it happened. The only thing I found interesting is the way Jamie calls his father James and not father or dad. HMMMMM. Posted by need a job on 1/14/2009 |

The solution has been provided by Jamie. Either call or go away feeling like you know the answers. End of story Posted by Final Solution on 1/14/2009 |

Pal, why should I do your work for you. That's the main problem in this town. People wanting answers want others to do the homework for them. Get out of the box and find out yourself. I know all enough about it to write what I did because I know what the truth of the matter is. I have provided more than enough for you to get what you want. Maybe you don't want it. Furthermore, James has told me he'll even provide the cell phone number for Rich Howard himself and you can directly go to the source and ask. There's the last token for you to do the job yourself. The main thing I am promoting in this response is to come out of the closet and face the answers you might/might not agree with and do this yourself. To answer all these questions for you would require me getting paid. Do you want to pay me to do your homework? Posted by Jamie Sanderson on 1/14/2009 |

Let me get this straight, you want me to call James Sanderson and say James, did you have anything to do with the new jobs?? Of course he will try to take credit for it. Tell us, Jamie, about the vote he cast to get the property zoned or the call he mad to the company officials or about the negotiation meetings he attended. You can't because he did none of that. He said "we need jobs." Are you saying he has the power just to say something and it comes to pass? He is Christ? I mean. all he said was we need jobs. He has not been in power to make any of that stuff happen. Posted by Pal on 1/14/2009 |

Pal, I don't equal my father, but I know when credit is due. As I said before, if you want to prove the statement wrong, I insist you call the men in question. More specifically, James himself. For the record, I am not a Jr. either. Posted by Jamie Sanderson on 1/14/2009 |

I think it's strange that when someone yesterday said something critical of James Sanderson, Jamie was quick as the roadrunner to get on here and distance himself from him. Now, suddenly he is ready to post about him again. Can't have it both ways James Jr. James Sr. is partly to blame for the steel mill layoffs after he preached JOBS JOBS JOBS!! He had NOTHING to do with these jobs coming! Posted by pal on 1/14/2009 |

Adding to my post earlier, I want to make it known that James Sanderson running for County Council made this happen. If it wasn’t for him focusing on the need for jobs, Rich Howard could have possibly given up on Georgetown County. If readers remember, this wasn’t a for-sure deal. I only write this because I feel all people involved in making this happen should get proper credit. If there is any conflict with the above mentioned, please contact Wayne Gregory or James Sanderson himself (655-1130) for the specifics of this. Again, I think this is a great score for the people in Andrews who definitely need jobs in that area. Posted by Jamie Sanderson on 1/14/2009 |

Glad to see 60 jobs coming to Georgetown. The people in the area need it. Hope it does well. Posted by Jamie Sanderson on 1/14/2009 |

Maryville Man (I use the term man loosely) keeps using this board for his childish rants about a Georgetown County message board that predates this one by many years. It is "The Citizens' Report", at www.citizensreport.com. We are the original Internet discussion board for this area. Please come visit for another view on local events. ************************ The reference to "giraffe" is to me. I ran for House Seat 108 years ago against Vida Miller. I was the giraffe candidate -- "Sticking My Neck Out For You". I used a blow-up giraffe on the roof of my van as my campaign mascot. Giraffe was an acronym for "Government Integrity Requires Accountability, Full and Frequent Examination".************************************** In my opinion, The Times should remove the "Maryville Man's" posts, as they are childish and do not add to the discussion of real issues. It has gone on too long. For some reason, the Times thinks it is OK, which shows a lack of management oversight on this board in my opinion. Posted by Marty Tennant on 1/14/2009 |

I love it. There are a couple of people like "concerned person" and JW that think the giraffe and his romper room board who claims they know EVERYTHING first. I read ad read and saw nothing about this at all. Wanna know why??? Because it is GOOD NEWS for the county. The giraffe place is only about negative. If it had been 60 layoffs they may have had it first. Or, as they did today, they can say it was 60 or more layoffs when it is really 9. So much for being first or being right. They blew both today.
